Gussie Busch went for the "teardrop" bottle design because he wanted a bottle that people could see from across a room (or bar) and know you were drinking a Michelob....
I remember drinking this and mich light in bars, hoping girls would think more of me, drinking a more expensive, premium beer. Doubt that it worked, but 1980 was a long time ago
@@brentmann2988 I know only because I read his book "Who Killed the Jingle?" If you haven't read it yet, you should totally check it out. It's a great read!
@@brentmann2988 Yes! I actually watched that interview a while back. He touches on a lot of the points from the book. It was great to hear him talking in detail about his career!
Is that Nathan Lane as the bartender? And I'm with Tonia682 - I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday but I saw a box from moving to my new house with the Michelob logo and started singing this all over again. I used to hear these jingles every morning on AM radio before my dad went to work. I don't drink beer now, but this sure brings back memories.
@flowergirlinWard17 I'm not sure who the actor in question is but I'm pretty sure it isn't Nathan Lane. Does look a bit like him though, doesn't he? As for the jingle - the people writing jingles back then did a highly effective job because people still remember them today
Extended relative wrote beer jingles back then, think that was his, but not the one I was looking for.. Went something like: ahem.....cough......cough....meeeee meeee meeee. With Michelob light There is no doubt This is what great taste is all about. Great taste........and Michelob Light Runs in the family Taste runs in the family ....Yeaaaah!
I'd be pissed if I went to the symphony and they opened their concert by playing a frigging beer commercial. Then again, I was never a Michelob man myself . . .
So I am humming this tune the other day and realize it was from a beer commercial ... come check it out on TheTube and then shit myself -- was it really 35 years ago? Dammit to hell . . . nostalgia!
Alot of commercial for a 'beer' that tastes like, even when fresh, it was opened and had a cigar put out in it and then forgotten behind a couch for a week :-)
RIP Marlene VerPlanck. She was the "yeah" girl.
Neat commercial. Miss those days.
Ha! I was instantly 17 again, seeing this! THX for posting!

Love the music in this video.
When I used to drink, we enjoyed a hell of a lot of that Michelob, let me tell you!
Here in The Great White North that was considered a very weak and un-manly beer.
Me too!!!👍🫡
why can't I remember my gazillion passwords but I can remember this commercial from at least 30 yrs ago?!?
No joke huh?? At least I'm not alone in the process of aging, and losing my marbles!!!😂😅

If you couldn't afford Michelob you drank Miller High Life
Steve Karmen wrote this jingle and played the conductor as well.
Great catch on Steve Karmen playing the conductor! :)

I always thought the symphony should have more conga solos, thanks Michelob.

We drank it religiously in the 80s. And the 90s.
