Sad that we can't have music like this today. Used to be a dozen new bangers every month if not more. We took it for granted and had no idea that creativity would eventually come to a crawl.

I agree with you 100%. I graduated from HS in 1972 and I loved listening to the radio and records. I never realized how talented the bands were and the messages they told. I watched Britney Spears (I was seeing where music was then) on tv and was shocked how bad she sounded and all that dancing around looked ridiculous. I’m so happy I grew up in the Baby Boomer generation.

Yes, we tried to tell everybody to just love one another, but the people who disagreed believed that this kind of love of humanity was a weakness. Unfortunately they won and we ended up with a lot of people living in hatred of others. Such a shame. This old hippy still loves and cares about others, this was and still is a favorite of mine.

There were a lot of introspective songs that came out in the 60s and 70s. It seemed to me that the disco era that followed this period happened because people didn't want to think about changing the world and just wanted to go out and have fun. I personally hated disco, but it became the music choice of a lot of people. It's interesting that today people are listening to this kind of music and almost no one listens to disco.

The Youngbloods were formed in 1965 and from Greenwich Village, NY. The song, "Get Together" actually was recorded in 1967 in what was known as "The Summer Of Love", where this song was ever in it's presence. "Get Together" was like a hippy anthem, the theme of the song spoke the words that the hippy generation believed in, (peace and love among each other), I was 6 years old when "Get Together" came out and I remember it very well, I've always liked the feeling it gave me, it had such a calming effect even though I was just a child, I would just stop and listen quietly. May we one day know true peace and stop the ignorance of war.

This song was released in 1967 on the Youngblood's debut album.
In 1968, in America, the Tet Offensive began in Vietnam, both Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy were gunned down by assassins. The riots in Chicago at the Democratic Convention erupted, and the violence that occurred after MLK's murder were horrific. Cities burned and hundreds died.
Sadly, no one was listening to the message of this anthem to peace...

It's a chorus that you just HAVE to sing along with. Great song choice guys!

The years, as a teacher when my kids were quarreling with each other I would break out into song with this chorus. Complete silence and amazement ensued...

This song makes me emotional. It takes me back to when I was in elementary school, maybe second grade. A beautiful song.

Such a great song for today. I live in the U.S. and most all citizens are soo sick and tired of war. But it's a shame our governments want to continue to have wars more for $$$ in their pockets than caring about "DEMOCRACY ". IT'S REALLY SAD. 😥
We the people are the only ones who can change. Here in the U.S. many from all states are going to the courts and making sure TRUTH comes out to get others to think for themselves. Love u guys ♥️👍

"Quicksilver Messenger Service" has a song called "Fresh Air," you'll love. Add "What About Me?" by them. "Gold and Silver," too. Dino Valenti who wrote the first two, also wrote the 60's anthem, "Get Together," sung by The Youngbloods with Jesse Colin Young on vocals. Rock on! Jesse still performs.

This was great..I haven't heard this song in a while and I remember loving it so much when it would play on the radio-- "back in the day".
