Indonesian language is a simplified form of Malay language and that is a very old language. Every island of Indonesia has their own language, so Malay was adopted as a national language. During SriWijaya kingdom Malaysia, Sumatra, Kalimantan that is the biggest island of Indonesia came under one kingdom and also used the word Barat. I have another example that I missed to add, what Mughals called India from Sindh to south of India. Only one name that come to my mind that is Hindustan. Why did they not have many other names for India? This also proves the common identity of India from centuries.

The Javanese language also have their own script. The modern Bahasa script is Latin but that does not change anything what they call it.
