Actually she started at 13 with the Album Precious by Cubic U which was a collaboration of her with her parents
That album was released in the US in 1996 and she had a music video of her covering the old classic song Close to You
Also she is 15 in this video, some people just look older naturally
As for other Japanese artists there are tons and tons of them
But I would recommend "Feel my Soul" , "Good-bye Days(2012 ver)"and "Summer Song" by YUI
I would recommend other songs too but unfortunately these are the only full music videos uploaded in her official youtube channel
Yes, this is the same artist as FMAB Opening 1 song Again and Bleach Opening 5 Rolling Star

Wow I haven't thought about Hikaru Utada in ages, she was so legendary for her R&B sound that I even remember some of her songs playing in the American shopping mall radios I grew up around in the early 2000s. I forgot how epic her voice is

You'd love the whole album if you love the R&B vibe 🥰 she was born in NY and lived part time in the US so she has a lot of influences from the US that she brought over to JP. She actually lives semipermanent in the UK now ever since covid rn since the last time I checked.

Hi there! Thank you for great reactions as always❤
As far as I know, R&B has existed in the Japanese music scene for quite some time. Especially in the late 90's and early 2000's, I think it was more active than now. I kind of miss that time😊

Taka has covered Hikaru Utada's songs in live performances! If you like Hikaru Utada, you should also listen to Misia's "Tsutsumikomu Youni"! This song is also quite old, but it has a 90's feel! Another one is Toshinobu Kubota's "La La La Love Song"! This is also the height of R&B!

Watch “DOUBLE / Shake [Music Video]” on RUclips
    ruclips.net/video/I-GZS1i0MfA/видео.htmlsi=fsPNOUvxrjvL7-Qr
DOUBLE is an R&B duo consisting of sisters SACHIKO and TAKAKO. Before their debut, they performed live at Yokota Air Base, which became a hot topic. “Shake” was their fourth single, released in March 1999, and is an R&B number co-produced with Ryosuke Imai. Its final sales exceeded 100,000 copies, and it is still DOUBLE’s biggest single hit. Shortly after the release of this single, the older sister SACHIKO suddenly passed away due to a subarachnoid hemorrhage, and DOUBLE as a sister unit came to an abrupt end. Since then, the younger sister TAKAKO has been active as a solo project.
…The early death of the older sister was a real shock 😭

    • @BSu-ym5mo
      @BSu-ym5mo День назад

R&B in Japan became HUGE towards the end of the 90s. If you do Utada Hikaru, you have to do Misia. If you do Misia, you shouldn’t miss DOUBLE. As for me, Utada and Misia create a hybrid by injecting some Japanese feel into R&B but DOUBLE is the closest to American R&B, sung in Japanese. Should definitely check them all out!

5:28 The single CD of "Automatic" was 12cm album size, even though the size of single CD in Japan at the time was mainly 8cm. The album cover has brought back vivid memories of this blue background with multiple overlapping white frames.😆At the time, 8cm singles were vertical and had a paper jacket with a plastic tray on top, and to play them on a player, an adapter was needed to make them 12cm.😅
Due to space limitations, singles only contained three songs at most.So the albums were 12cm like now, but occasionally there were singles on 12cm, and at that time there were 4 to 6 songs, usually ① title songs, ② coupling songs, ③ karaoke songs, and occasionally ④ remix versions.😌
I think "Automatic" contains 4 songs: the main song, the coupling song, and the karaoke version of each song...🤔

Utada Hikaru is a legend! Thanks to her, J-pop was dominated by R&B for about a decade.
There is also an R&B duo called Double, who were active during the same period. While Utada Hikaru was popular throughout Japan, Double was known as the Queen of R&B among dedicated R&B fans.
If you like 90's R&B, you should definitely check out their debut song, "Shake"

Luke, if you like J-pop/J-Rock throwback music you should check out Leo Ierie, she's been performing for over 10 years now but definitely has more of an early 00s style and a sunning voice.

is one of her newer songs but it truly shows her talent. This is one of her non-anime tracks. It's called Silly.
