  • Starting with the UK 🇬🇧 A dream come true for me, traveling the world on an electric motorcycle! If any Motorbike can be an Adventurebike, it shouldn’t be an issue having to plug it in instead of filling it up with petrol. Join me on this first leg to England, Scotland and Ireland until I make my way further east! I hope to see many of you on the way, since I know that loads of you watching from Great Britain.
See you in the next episode🤙🏼
Ps. The old Honda Dominator 650 is fine and save and sound in my mom’s garage until I will revive her one day🙌🏼
Pps. For those who are interested, it’s a Zero Motorcycles SR/F 14.4 Standard + 6kw quick Charger (9kw all together) from 2019. but it doesn’t really matter if it’s that or an Energica (the new adventure model looks heavy af) or a Harley Davidson Livewire. I’m sure the differences are very slight. I choose this one cause I could afford it and it was available.

Best of luck Marc, you sure will need it... A lot!
Don't want to be a downer on this new adventure, but you are indeed a true adventurer. Doing any long journey on that bike, it will for sure be an adventure, let alone a world journey!
There's a simple reason for the manufacturers not to sponsor you, they are perfectly aware of the troubles you may find, and they don't want their bikes to look bad, because they do sponsor travel experiences shows, but only the ones they know are safe. Such did Zero, here in Portugal, where they sponsored a TV show, showcasing our country with a team of international journalists, riding Zero bikes while traveling around the country. Showing that's possible to know how country by doing it riding a Zero, etc. etc.
There is still to be made a bike capable of doing what you what you want to do.
My suggestion, go forward, but change the title, don't do a world tour, but do a "modern" World tour. Make sure that you can charge your bike all the way of your journey, or you will be stranded and/or will end using a petrol generator, which will void your primary intention, lots of pollution, sound and air. Then remember, you are not a mechanic, nor an electrician, and your bike, has a 2 years battery, with lots of charge cycles done, it's lifespan it's no doubt reduced, but for how much, that's the question, so you need a safety net for your endeavour, only possible if you are on a modern world, and even so, not in all modern countries. Think about it, you are still on time to adapt your travel plans, but by all means, don't stop, it will be a learning experience for all, even the manufacturers that didn't suport you (shame on tem) and will somehow get the info for free. 😉
Safe journey, may you find dry and clean turns on your way.
    Cheers
    João

@The Old Husky very true, the very process of mining the raw materials for the batteries it's very unfriendly to nature, not to mention the refinement of the minerals. The goverments didn't study the solutions very well, and went too fast on the choosing of the battery solution, it's all a question of money and politics, I just hope that research for alternatives won't stop, same way video recording didn't, VHS won the initial battle over betamax, although the later was the best system, but fortunately today we have mp4 and other digital recording processes that are way better and more economical and environmentally safer. 😉

Hi Joao, been an electric rider with Zero motos since 2015. I still own one for highest mileage Zero bikes out there, with 167.000 km on the odometer. The battery lasts much more than we normally think. Most batteries (unless they have some sort of manufacturing issue) will outlast the bike, you can easily get bored of it before the battery dies out. I would expect his bike to not have more than 5-8 % degradation. Assuming 100 km per cycle (which is a very low distance), with 11000 km that means only 110 cycles. The manufacturer Farasis assures 2000 cycles before reaching 80 % of original capacity, so still a long way to go!

    • @DanielMonteroElectraveler
      @DanielMonteroElectraveler 2 года назад +1

@The Old Husky Before stating such statements I highly recommend you take a look at complete Life Cycle Analysis of several forms of transportation as it has been extensively done by professional people. Read for example "A Comprehensive Study of Implemented International Standards, Technical Challenges, Impacts and Prospects for Electric Vehicles", a peer-reviewed manuscript where it details that even electric cars whose energy comes from coal sources is still greener than a combustion engine.
Also, comparing the batteries of an RC helicopter to that of a motorcycle or car simply shows your lack of knowledge in the topic. Yes, they are lithium batteries. But that it is. Is like saying that you bought a steel rim and it broke, and you claim that steel is not reliable and thus should not be used in construction. There are many types of chemistries on lithium batteries, and the one used in EVs have more cycle numbers. Just look at Teslas with more than 400.000 km, or my own Zero with 167.000 km, with same battery.
It's's not left or right, this is not politics, this is science and there is data behind that is demonstrated with numbers.

Welcome back, Marc! What a bombshell! Even when I saw the title of the video, I thought it must be about someone else's trip, but no! It is certainly ambitious and will take some careful planning, but you have plenty of travel experience. The only difference with this trip is charging the bike, which will be easy in the 'western world', but a bit trickier in developing countries. Having said that, it must be remembered that it is more than three years since Ewan and Charlie did their trip and we've all seen the usage of electric cars increase since then. I think many people will be surprised at how many charging stations are springing up all over the world and, of course, you also have the option of charging from domestic power. There are plenty of African countries, for example, investing heavily in charging stations on major routes. Route planning will be important, but don't get sucked into just riding from charging point to charging point. In some places of course you'll have to stick to the highways, but when you find charging stations with shorter distance between them, you'll be able to take some of the minor roads and then rejoin the highway further down the road. By the time you get to the more remote areas, you'll have gained a lot more experience with your bike and you'll know exactly when, where and why to charge up. Until that happens - ATGATT and stay upright!

When in UK North of Scotland is a must do thing. I am a bit skeptical when it comes to long distance riding on electric motorbike. I am all into "motorbike need to drink petrol and sound properly" but that is just me. But probably that is what will make it hell of adventure so I wish you all the best. I am in Glasgow so if you are passing by and need anything drop me a message. Hey, Marc! Fellow EV biker here. I was first to ride an electric motorbike (Zero DSR) from bottom to top of UK back in 2017 and repeated the journey earlier this year on my new (since April 2022) Energica EVA Ribelle.
I think you've made a better choice than Ewan and Charlie did in terms of charging speed, given you have access to faster AC charging on the Zero SR/F than they did riding the LiveWire. AC charging is going to be more widespread around the world. DC charging is great for where it exists in countries with a developed rapid charging infrastructure, but outside such countries, you have the better option. I have little concern about your charging options, as you only need a standard domestic supply and that's going to be more common.
I must admit, my personal inclination would probably be to a Zero DSR with Charge Tank, just because it's more suited to off-road riding, but I like the fact you're trying a standard road bike.
As to how the bike will physically cope and how you will cope, well that's the whole point of the adventure, isn't it?! I salute you for it. 👍🙂
If you're anywhere around the Warwickshire area (around Birmingham) and need a charge, you're welcome to charge at my home (we have a Zappi charge point) and we'll feed and water you too. If the timing's right and it helps, you can "crash" here too. We have a sofa bed. Otherwise, be good to say hello if you're in the area. I'll ride out on the Energica to meet up and wish you luck!
Fellow electric bikers deserve all the support of others. There are too many cynics, so I really wish you well on your adventure.

Hey Mark ! Cool. You will realize what i would like to test : The road trip with an electrical motorcycle.
And you choose Ireland. A country where I have a lot of good memories. Prefer the west cost. Buren and Cliffs of Moher are splendid. I really enjoy Connemara, switch off GPS and try to loose yourself in this place. And jump to Donegal the more authentic part of Ireland. (The Giants Caseway has no interest). And try to meet Irish people there are so frendly.
Two good choices : The destination and the motorcycle !
So have a very nice trip !

Great idea to use an electric motorcycle. I don't think you will have any issues with charging in the EU, but you probably have to plan for it. Have a good trip, looking forward to the videos and what you have to say.

I have a mixed feelings to be honest. On the one hand I really loved Honda and its all imperfections but overall it was reliable trip comrade that I was hoping to see again. On the second, my mind electric bike has more disadvantages then trusty old honda. Especially due to range, weight etc. But on the third, it will be kind a interesting to see how this trip will go, if electric bike disadvantages are not so significant as I initially thought. Actually I haven't seen any biker/youtuber doing long distance trips on electric. All in all , Im really looking forward your videos Marc. Good luck and have a safe journey!

a different choice. but definitely a challenge I look forward to following. regardless of what we think and feel. then it's probably something we have to look forward to. that most things will be powered by electricity and other non-fossil substances so thumbs up for making the attempt 👍

And you found that niche that will do it all just a bit more interesting...😁😁
Looking forward to see how you do the charging it in the middle of nowhere (around the World)...
Maybe you should get a portable solar panel and a 12/24 volt to 240 volt solution, if the bike can't be charged with low DC ... then you can get help from any care on the road... or a mini diesel aggregate 🙃

Nice to see you back Marc to be honest I am not sold on electric transport yet, but you are hopefully going to prove me wrong lol. Nice to hear you are heading to my homeland too, I live in Scotland but only a few miles from the border with England, so if you are stuck for anything just keep me in mind 😊 good luck

A couple of years ago, while camping in the US state of Montana, a young European man camped in the spot next to me. He was riding a bicycle and sleeping in a Hilleberg. I asked about his travel plans. He had started in France, and was on his way around the world.
Live your dream my young friend. Live your dream.

Congratulations on your new bike. You are are not the only one with a dream to go RTW on an electric bike, I am so looking forward to your adventures so I can live vicariously. You will always find a way to charge, there's still plenty of places in the world where it's hard to find liquid fuel so I don't buy the argument electric is different. The SR / S may have been a better choice for touring, but you have chosen the best looking bike in the range IMO. All the best, roll on the next vid.

Hi Marc, adventure or challenge is not if everything is 100% certain.
I know is not totally a good thing but can I suggest you stick your sticker on every charging station you gonna use?
    Let's do it.
And remember you got a good community following you, and for any problem, you will find a friend helping you.
I wait for you to be in the UK, ride safe.

That's awesome, man. Electric bikes big plus for touring is the very low/zero maintenance. The downsize is the range and time to charge. I think is gonna be great, you will probably struggle at first to adapt to the new way of traveling, but once you have that sorted out, it will be an epic journey. Best of lucks and if you ride through the Netherlands, let me know. Cheers!

Looks like you haven’t seen all the stories from unhappy EV owners that found it’s costing them more for charging than it did for gas. Sadly charging station operators are taking advantage of having captive customers.

Regarding the good old Honda, it will rot in the shed and you'll feel like a traitor any time you go there. Speaking from experience :) You should just give as a present it to someone who'll ride it.
