My favorite lyric in this song is where he said "for us to think, is to be alive and I will try with every rhyme to come across like I am dying to let you know you need to try to think" meaning he will try with his music to encourage us to live ( no matter how hard life may be)
I have a theory of the concert scene in the video. What I think it represents comes from what they say at the end of evert concert, which is: " We're Twenty One Pilots and so are you"...If you notice how instead of crowd surfing from the stage out to the crowd, like how most performers typically do it, he starts in the crowd with them. Then when the crowd comes to life, so does he and they lift him up, bringing him back to the stage. What that symbolizes to me is his love and trust of his fans, feeling connected with them and more importantly, that the fans uplift him and carry him, putting him back where he belongs (on the stage) and keeping him grounded, to not "lose himself in the crowd".

Dude! Their layers have layers! No accident about it :) Loved everything you had to say and great catches on your first listen. Yes, TOP is very intentional with their music, lyrics, and visuals. My fave part of this song is where the fans lift Tyler up as the beat drops. They go from standing in silence to carrying Tyler back to the stage. Music and friends can do that for us when we can't do it for ourselves. Also, his hair is back at the end. He ends where he begins because dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, or whatever you're dealing with is cyclical. If you do more TOP, and I really hope that you do, you'll notice a lot of through lines in their music. TOP is genre-less. They masterfully blend rap, pop, rock, edm, screamo, ukulele, and you name it. They write, produce, and perform all their own music, and their live performances are just that, alive! My favorite video. Favorite Twenty One Pilots song. And they have so many good songs and videos. I enjoy when someone recognizes how awesome this video is
Another great rabbit hole to explore. They lean more into the metaphorical but their lyrical content and storytelling is very similar to NF while being very different musically
Hi, new here, was searching twenty one pilots reactions. Tyler Joseph is a lyrical genius. There is no bad song. Hope you check out more, they go pretty deep
His fans are his new car radio (kitchen sink). This song and others of theirs have saved countless people, this is now his meaning in life, the reason he didn't pull the wheel. please continue down the rabbit hole. To understand what I mean, I suggest "guns for hands" next.
EVERYTHING this band does is purposeful...it always was, and it continues to be to this day with their new stuff. I hope you go down the rabbit hole, you will not regret it...the choices of what to watch next are endless, there are no bad songs. I would watch Ode to Sleep next...and I would watch Trees (live at fox theater) within the next few you watch at the very least...being a gospel/christian fan, that is one I am sure you will enjoy...even though I know you will enjoy all of their music.

@@TrevandErin the media had to give them their own because their music is so unique, kinda like how Nirvana is the pioneer of grunge, TøP is the pioneer of Schizophrenic Pop
Welcome to the rabbit hole of Twenty One Pilots! They have so many deep BARS in their songs. You have to start with the earlier stuff because it all connects. They are like NF the way they connect their songs. It’s their on universe. Start with the album Vessels. That’s where it all starts to connect. They have an earlier album named after themselves but do those songs after. This is the order you should go in. Start with “Car radio”, then “Ode to Sleep”, “Migraine”, “Holding on to you”, “Guns for hands”, and “Trees”( live from the fox theatre). After that album you’re gonna head to “Blurryface”. From that album you should listen to “Stressed out”(I’m sure you guys have hear this one already) after that do “Lane Boy”, “Ride”, “Tear in my heart”, Fairy local”, The judge”, Message man”, “Goner” and finish with “Heavydirtysoul” but I know you guys have done that one already. Then it goes to the album “Trench”. Start with “Jumpsuit”(it’s the continuation of Heavydirtysoul) then “Nico and the Niners”, “Levitate” after that do “The Hype”(Regular version and Berlin version) then “Cholrine”, “Neon Gravestones”, followed by “Moph”, “Bandito”, “Pet Cheetah” and finish with “Leave the City”. Bro they SPIT THE BARS!
The top three shows of my life were all TøP shows. They really put on a live show like no one that I've ever seen in my life. Would love to see you do more of them. If you follow from oldest to newest. You will follow the singer Tyler on his journey struggling with his faith and finding it and losing it and finding it. It's really quite beautiful
The drop is something they do in several songs. Psychologically, I believe that those parts are meant for catharsis after the deeply philosophical journey his lyrics/vocals take the listener/crowd on. Haven't caught them live yet but I see tons of comments about how their live shows are very cathartic. As for songwriting it's kind of the 'pay off' for what you put them through. Plus fits the overall narrative that while he talks about demons, insecurities, fears and mental disorders...each song proves that no matter the difficulties in life that there can be strong, positive and hopefully beautiful moments in life and those are worth staying alive for.
"Ode To Sleep" is about the journey TOP has done. "Lane Boy" is about music industry TOP had to deal with. Both men deal with mental problems, fear, and insecurities. PS Lead singer Tyler is very deliberate about his music writing...and Josh is just a great hard drummer.
Great reaction! If you notice when the beat picks up & he's screaming "Now I just sit in silence," to me that's the thoughts in his head. It's the absolute loudest part of the song while he's screaming. These guys are actually Christian but don't label themselves as that type of band. Their music is layered with their faith and their struggles. They both struggle with depression, anxiety. Tyler wrestles with his faith as well. An excellent example is Ode To Sleep. The lead singer Tyler writes every song. This is one where where he'd struggles with depression and being attacked by the enemy he feels like a hypocrite & compares himself to Peter for denying Jesus in the way he represents his music. Another good one is Holding Onto You. if you listen to either, have the lyrics up so you can catch what he's actually saying.
@TrevReacts I think you'll really enjoy it. It's a documentary style video showing their progression over the course of 3 years but it's deep & Tyle spits fast so definitely have the lyrics up as well. Definitely need to do the official video for it, you won't be disappointed. Looking forward to it and many others! New sub here!
Trev, I know this is a bit unreal, but my grown sons got me into Twenty-one Pilots. I'm 65 and have been a Christian my whole life. I've been to a couple ToP concerts (huge stadium concerts) with my sons and have grown to love this duo band. There is so much more to them than 'just' a pop band. ...and, sub'd.
@@TrevandErin Thank you!!! Just hope that you know, Tyler’s music is slightly schizophrenic. His music is mostly about his struggles with mental help. But his music is lyrically perfect and always changes directions right as you feel settled in. He is very spiritual as well so you being a gospel song lover, you are right on track with Twenty One Pilots. I’ll tell you what, if you really get into this music and you become a big fan, order the book by Arthur Miller “All My Sons” so that you can understand why Tyler went with the name Twenty One Pilots. Based upon real events, this is your first introduction into this band. The lore is next.
I like to think the car radio is his faith, he feels like he can't hear it anymore and his demons are winning. The shaving of the head is self harm, the mask is putting on a face to go out in public. The drop is realizing he's not alone, the end is him home again, back at square one. At least for me, this is personally how I see it. Probably because it's a daily experience for me.
I noticed he put on a mask then went out in public and everything was great then he was alone again and took off the mask and the song went back to sitting in silence. Then falling back off the ledge.
Nice . I used to listen to 21 pilots on repeat but that was my party days. 21 pilots, Korn, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Insane Clown Posse with a little bit of Reba McEntire thrown in for a change of pace lol. Enjoyed the reaction too 💞❤️🔥
Great reacion! Side note, the whole faith is to be awake and what not (I missed this part forever as well because he says the end so quickly). He ends it with something like "Faith is to be awake and to be awake is for us to be alive. And I will try with every rhyme to come across to let you know that you need to think." Meaning I think with every rhyme he wants to let you know that you should live. They have a lot of anti-suicide bars in their songs.
I subbed for more TØP!!! I’m gonna suggest LANE BOY, RIDE, TREES but do live at Fox theater version, GUNS FOR HANDS, ODE TO SLEEP official video, MIGRAINE, ADDICT WITH A PEN I personally recommend the studio version where it is just him at piano and josh on drums but either way it’s just more touching version in studio, MESSAGE MAN, FAIRLY LOCAL, SCREEN, SMITHEREENS, MY BLOOD do official video, HOLDING ONTO TOU, LEGEND, there is LORE it’s very deep tons of symbolism which we will have to explain it’s basically a world called DEMA that is a representation of a prison of depression and anxiety inside Tyler’s mind. You have to do those videos in order as follows. HEAVY DIRTY SOUL, JUMPSUIT, LEVITATE, NICO AND THE NINERS, MORPH, BANDITO, NEON GRAVESTONES, CHLORINE, SATURDAY, THE OUTSIDE, CHOKER, NO CHANCES…LETS GO!!!! Whoot!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Truce and Leave the City are 2 songs I highly recommend to listen to. Unlike the other songs, they are less upbeat and have more of a sadder tone. Truce is the mark of the start of the lore behind the band because the music video was filmed on Clancy Street. Leave the City has some religious aspects behind it and has a meaning of losing faith in God. I feel like these songs are underrated a bit so it would be cool if you gave them a shot.
Great reaction! I’m glad you’ve begun a TØP journey. You won’t be disappointed. I subscribed 😉 Tyler writes music to help deal with real life struggles and to encourage people to think. He’s very intentional in every aspect of the creative process. And Josh is an absolute beast on the drums! 😼 It’s just the 2 of them. This song was inspired by a time in college when someone actually stole Tyler’s car radio and he couldn’t afford to replace it. He has struggled with mental health issues and being trapped alone in his car with his dark thoughts was a dangerous place for him to be. So the line “I could pull the steering wheel” alludes to suicidal thoughts. But he was able to channel his experience into music that has kept him alive and has provided many people with encouragement to keep fighting. Live concerts are at the core of who twenty one pilots is. It’s how they built their core fan base even before they were signed to a label. Tyler has said that the music is therapy and the concerts are a celebration. There’s nothing like the energy from the crowd and the connection they have with their fans, which they tried to capture in the video. But when the crowds are gone, the depression is still there. Everything is cyclical. Many of their early songs also deal with his faith, but he writes them in a way that the music can be meaningful to anyone. I would recommend Migraine, Holding Onto You, Lane Boy, Ode to Sleep, Fairly Local, Trees (Live from Fox Theater), and Heavydirtysoul. You may have also heard their big hits, Stressed Out and Ride, but those would be good to react to as well as you get a feel for their message and style. There’s a lot more to the TØP journey as they transition into Trench, which is a concept album where Tyler created a world to go deeper into the things he was dealing with. You will find many from the Clique will help guide you through the journey.
I’m pretty new to 21 pilots but I don’t think they do anything accidentally 😊 I have loved everything I have heard from them so far. One thing for sure is they don’t have a genre. I never know what to expect but I love it. I hope you do more from them.😊
I’m here for Twenty one pilots! Love this. You mentioned listening to gospel or Christian music. That was my thing back in the late 90s at the height of DC Talk and Newsboys. Tyler does write a lot about his faith..and I think you’d like Fairly Local. I think it’s a call back to Paul in Romans when he’s talking about doing the thing he doesn’t want to do and not doing the thing he should. Ode To Sleep has a lot of underlying biblical references too . Think Peter denying 3 times. This is all a side note…because that’s not why I listen to them but thought you may find it interesting after your comment. I’ve been to 6 of their shows and saw Toby Mac and Michael Tate jamming out at their show in Nashville a few months back. They were big influences on Tyler and Josh back when they were kids.
Wow that's awesome. I love TobyMac and Michael Tate. I've done a lot of bass covers of both of their songs a lot on this channel. I'm actually excited to continue listening to more twenty one pilots
Please please continue to go down the Twenty One Pilots rabbit hole. They have so many good songs and every single one of them has a meaning and that meaning can be a myriad of different things to different people. But that's the beauty of it is that every single lyric every single song every video there is something in it that has a meaning. Tyler does not write meaningless songs. I also hope that you continue with Twenty One Pilots because there is even a deeper lower story that sort of starts with heavy dirty Soul off blurryface and goes in deeper with trench and scaled and icy.
I'm a man of the people 😂 if people want more I'll definitely do more twenty one pilots. I definitely enjoyed this song and reacting to it so I'm 100% down to do more
@@TrevandErin Well, then I'm sincerely hoping enough people want to see more! Lol. Also, wanted to mention my favorite part of the song is the one you kept going back through. The "Because faith is to be awake, and to be awake is for us to think, and for us to think is to be alive, and I will try with every rhyme to come across like I am dying to let you know you need to try to think." I personally deal with a lot of what this song is about, and I love that throughout their music there is the underlying message of "stay alive" even if it's hidden in a round about verse like that one. If you do end up continuing, just be ready to go on a feels trip if you get into some of their earlier stuff, like the first self titled album from before Josh(the drummer) came in. :) Anyway, sorry for the ramble. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week! I'll be subscribing in hopes of more.
@@TrevandErin You're very welcome! And thank you for taking the time to respond! Ode to Sleep is another great one, though you can't really go wrong with anything off Vessel. I am very much looking forward to it!
When you get to Intro 3 by NF you will learn more about his fear and it will bring his music all together, so please try to file away in your memory about that NF journey I've never heard this song before. It is 🔥🔥🔥 Of course, I know who Twenty One Pilots are but never really heard their music except what was on the radio. This is great!!
You need to do ode to sleep. And because of your Christian background you should do implicit demand for proof, taxi cab, isle of flightless birds, doubt, neon grave stones. You will love these guys.
@TrevReacts - Here is a suggestion for you. This live version is better than their official video, but trust me on this one: ruclips.net/video/szE3DTbtqw8/видео.html - Enjoy!
@@TrevandErin I literally just watched your reaction to Lane Boy! 😂 I appreciate the reactions because I not only get to watch their music again, which is always a treat, but I enjoy seeing other people fall in love with them too. I love how they don't fit into any specific genre of music, they're all over the place (in a good way)- it keeps you on your toes. Also, I'm sure you'll pick up on this, if you haven't already, but in their songs they not only talk about their mental health, they often low key talk about their faith. 💙
ehhh my guy ty for the content similar to your christian roots twenty one piløts is full of intentional context if you enjoyed this, its time to explore most of the blurryface album starting with heavy dirty soul 🔥💪❤️

Twenty One Pilots have great songs that can be reacted to by someone with your gospel background…Addict with a Pen and Trees just to name a couple
Yeah I need to start implementing more of my gospel background into my commentary lol
@@TrevandErin FYI, don't know if anyone has said, but the guys are Christians, they're just not a Christian band.
His fans are his new car radio (kitchen sink). This song and others of theirs have saved countless people, this is now his meaning in life, the reason he didn't pull the wheel. please continue down the rabbit hole. To understand what I mean, I suggest "guns for hands" next.
I'm definitely gonna check out more!
@@TrevandErin definitely genius and definitely nothing accidental, so many hidden meanings
Thank you! I will. It seems ode to sleep is a highly suggested one. I will most likely be doing that one next.
Yes! Tress (Live at fox theater) Would definitely be a good pick. Maybe not for the next 1. But definitely a good pick.
@@TrevandErin Ugh...it looks like youtube blocked it...I just tried to watch your ode to sleep reaction
@@nicholassgroi4610 dang it was working for a second but then it got blocked again. I blurred the video like crazy you couldn't even tell what was going on. I guess it's the audio they are blocking
@@TrevandErin crazy...was it the official video? ...I have seen other reactors post it without issue...however, sometimes other variations of the song (live, lyric, etc) have been blocked....youtube is silly...best of luck man...I really wanted to watch this reaction, maybe theres still a chance youtube puts it through
I just love your reactions!! 😎
Thank you so much! Means a lot
The car is the body!
TØP is it's own genre ❤️
Here for this and you.
🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥
Thank you! They really do sound genreless
@@TrevandErin the media had to give them their own because their music is so unique, kinda like how Nirvana is the pioneer of grunge, TøP is the pioneer of Schizophrenic Pop
Lane Boy
I'll add that one to the list. Ode to sleep and lane boy seem to be the two most suggested so far
Subbed for more TOP! Enjoy the journey!
Thank you! I'll definitely do more of their songs I think the next one I'll do it ode to sleep
cant wait for you to react to more of them!!! Great reaction!
I feel like the bridge picks you up and allows the listener time to think!❤
The top three shows of my life were all TøP shows. They really put on a live show like no one that I've ever seen in my life. Would love to see you do more of them. If you follow from oldest to newest. You will follow the singer Tyler on his journey struggling with his faith and finding it and losing it and finding it. It's really quite beautiful
I will definitely be uploading more!
First I've seen them 4 time live and each time is breathtaking. Secondly, nothing they do is without meaning/symbolism.
That’s sick
"Ode To Sleep" is about the journey TOP has done. "Lane Boy" is about music industry TOP had to deal with. Both men deal with mental problems, fear, and insecurities. PS Lead singer Tyler is very deliberate about his music writing...and Josh is just a great hard drummer.
I'll check out ode to sleep next
Wow I didn't even notice that either. I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction! I'm gonna do ode to sleep next
@@TrevandErin if you watch Trees its another one with heave faith base
At the moment @Well now he's got a radio or what" i genuinely giggled, probably the very first time of listening to this song
😂
Trev, I know this is a bit unreal, but my grown sons got me into Twenty-one Pilots. I'm 65 and have been a Christian my whole life. I've been to a couple ToP concerts (huge stadium concerts) with my sons and have grown to love this duo band. There is so much more to them than 'just' a pop band.
...and, sub'd.
Thank you for the sub! I will definitely do more of twenty one pilots! I've been told to do live versions to keep the videos from being blocked
you got the point about the symbolism
I love watching people watching tøp for first time
WOOT!!!
😂
Ode to Sleep should be your next TOP review!!!!
It’s so nice that you just lost your TØP vearginity!!!!
Congrats! ❤
😂 I'll do ode to sleep next
@@TrevandErin
Thank you!!!
Tyler was a worship leader. Many of his songs also have a Christian element like Addict with a Pen and a solo song he did called Drown.
I'm gonna have to check out addict with a pen. That's an awesome song title
This journey is as pleasing as the NF joirney. Almost. 21 pilots was fire
I'm hyped to get into more
I'm really hoping twenty-one pilots are a feature on NFs upcoming album. Would be incredible.
That would be awesome!
That definitely fits
I noticed he put on a mask then went out in public and everything was great then he was alone again and took off the mask and the song went back to sitting in silence. Then falling back off the ledge.
This video is so good.
😍😍😍😍😍😍
Nice . I used to listen to 21 pilots on repeat but that was my party days. 21 pilots, Korn, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Insane Clown Posse with a little bit of Reba McEntire thrown in for a change of pace lol. Enjoyed the reaction too 💞❤️🔥
Thank you! I love Reba.
@@TrevandErin me too. Tbh you can never go wrong with 90s country especially Reba, Garth Brooks, Alabama, Alan Jackson ... there's to many to name lol

More NF and more TØP please 🖤💛
💯
hes with his fans so that was the switch from sad to happy thats how im taking it xo
I really wanna see you react to ill mind of hopsin 7
I'll have to check that out
Great reacion!
Whoot!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Dang ok I'll come back to this so I can follow the correct order. Thank ya!
I'll will check them out. Thank you for the suggestions
Great reaction! I’m glad you’ve begun a TØP journey. You won’t be disappointed. I subscribed 😉
Tyler writes music to help deal with real life struggles and to encourage people to think.
Wow what a quote.. The music is therapy and the concerts are celebrations..
Great video!
I’m pretty new to 21 pilots but I don’t think they do anything accidentally 😊 I have loved everything I have heard from them so far. One thing for sure is they don’t have a genre. I never know what to expect but I love it. I hope you do more from them.😊
I've listened to this one and ode to sleep so far. I'm impressed by them for sure. Great music and genre bending songs to be honest
well this is a cool channel
Thank you
You would enjoy Tree's, it's a prayer, not a love song.
I'll check it out!
@TrevReacts gotta do the live version tho..it hits so much harder.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week! I'll be subscribing in hopes of more.
