    Heeeeeello! :D
    It’s finally out. (I’m literally uploading this at 2:07 AM lol.)
    A good amount of people were really interested in seeing a reaction to this video and it was really nice to watch it. As I stated in the video I’m a sucker for history, so this video did a great job of explaining the Sodor timeline.
    I would definitely suggest checking out the original video since I mainly kept the segments that consisted of my main commentary.
    Thank you for bearing with the ooof upload situation.

    It's fun watching your reactions to Tug's narration of events, and trying to decode if Sodor is real or not. Sadly in our world Sodor is fictional, but within the Railway series books things from our world (like Awdry's writing of stories and the TV show) are real pieces of fiction there. It gets kinda 4th wall breaking sometimes as most of the stories from the first 4-5 seasons of the show we have are direct adaptions of stories from the books in our world, which means they're adaptions of stories of real events in the Thomas book universe.
    As for things like Thomas being booked by cops and Toby being bought to run that branch section and all the crashes; it has to do with the realism Awdry wrote in to the stories such as the law of a train running on a section of non-fenced track must have side-plates and cow catchers to protect humans and animal straying on the line (this is a key plot point in the early TV show as to why Toby & Mavis run the line to/from the quarry on Thomas' branch even after it has fences built), and sadly the history of rail travel is filled with crashes that over time made it safer and easier to travel by rail (such as the current safety feature of if an engine passes a signal at danger, a trigger is pulled that causes the train to come to a stop soon after the signal to prevent rear-end or head-on collisions, which sometimes still happen because of faults in the systems).
    As for why Flying Scotsman is so popular - it was the prime express train from London to Edinburgh (as it "flew up to Scotland") and the loco was named after the service (not the other way around).
    As steam locos were removed from service in the UK, The Flying Scotsman went in to preservation and on tours around the world as the last Pacific (4-6-2 wheel arrangement) engine designed by Sir Nigel Gresly in working condition, until a new A3 based on Peppercorn's designs (evolved from Gresly's) was built over the 1990's and 2000's and eventually came in to service in 2011 - Tornado.

    • @liamkrumnow8665
      @liamkrumnow8665 2 года назад +2

      Sorry to correct you, but a Pacific wheel arrangement is 4-6-2, not 2-6-4. The Whyte notation is determined by looking from the front to the back or look at left side and go from right to left.

    The Culdee Fell Railway engines have angled boilers because if they were straight, when climbing the mountain, too much hot water and combustion would go to the back of the boiler, near the firebox, and cause the boiler to explode.

    Scotsman's fame comes with him being officially the first steam locomotive to go 100 mph (City of Truro's is kinda unofficial) He's the sole survivor of Nigel Gresley's A1/A3 pacifics and turns 98 years old this year. He's also toured the US (which Tug is working on covering in future) and Australia throughout his later years, and has the longest travelled distance of any steam engine. A 16 minute video of Scotsman's life can found on Chris Eden-Green's channel where he also covers almost all things about British steam trains and he even has a 5 volume DVD series called 'Steam Locos in Profile'; I highly recommend checking out his content, though you might not wanna do reactions (as much as I'd love to see them) for sake of money stuff he goes through making these.

    Sodor’s completely fictitious unless someone raises the funds to build an artificial island between Britain and the Isle of Man. The reason why the Culdee Fell engines’ boilers are angled is because the water in the boiler would slosh backwards into the fire on the hills because if they weren’t angled, the boiler would explode from the sudden drop in pressure. 13:45 It was some sort of law that required covered wheels to protect animals from being dragged under the wheels and trams are the only types of engines that have covered wheels. 18:01 You really need to research this legendary locomotive. First train to reach an indicated 100 mph.

    The books are colourful, VERY anachronistic for 1940s. Most children's books would have lined black, white & red illustrations in them at the time. One of the points of making the books that size was so they use techniques from colour postcards to put full illustrations on every second page.

    Flying Scotsman is so famous for being the only surviving engines of Nigel Gresley’s A3 class and had an entire trip around the US and a little bit of Canada and was the first ever preserved British Railway Locomotive to be “mainline certified”.

      Heyo Eddy! :)
      Lol yep, sometimes my commentary isn't that creative or unique.
      All of the videos that I react to are pieces of content that I'm seeing for the first time, so taking the time to process what I'm actually seeing is usually super short.
      For the most part, I usually take what I see and understand it as best as possible, although my statements typically end up being short and uncreative unless there's a long pause between major events within a video.
      However, it's nice to see that you found that particular phrase funny or enjoyable in some sense.
      This entire video was jam-packed with interesting sections, so I had a fun time checking it out.
      Thank you for giving this reaction and for providing some slight input with the quote, I appreciate your time and feedback.
      Let me know if there's anything that I can do for you.
      Have a good one friendo! :]

    @selinapersaud7629 Год назад +2

    Another thing I wanted to know, did you accidentally skipped has some events? There were some that I didn’t see. It’s OK if you did, I’m just asking out of curiosity.

    • @WhattheHay
      @WhattheHay  Год назад

      That's probably the case!
      With my reaction videos, especially ones that are in relation to super long content, I typically only include the sections where I actually provided commentary or said something that I considered helpful for the reaction video itself.
      That's kind of the tough thing about reaction videos, sometimes I don't even consider important parts of certain content, especially if I'm not familiar with the video/topic. That sometimes makes people confused and upset that I didn't feature their favorite part of a video.
      You could definitely ask questions about my opinions on certain parts of a video if I didn't cover it.
      Thank you for asking! :)

    The Island of Sodor is a fictional island created by Wilbert Audrey however though it is fictional, it is influenced by real world events and all of the characters are based off of real life engines that were and are real. The Island of Sodor’s location would be between the UK and The Isle of Man and also the island of Sodor is connected to the Mainland ( The UK ) by a bridge and the North Western Railway connects to Barrow-in-furness which is a real town in the real world, so though the Island is fake, it is influenced by real events that happened in real life like the Diesel’s becoming popular in the UK and their are also characters that are basically in real life like Stepeney and The Flying Scotsman. Their are a lot of Real World influences that make the Island of Sodor feel like a real place though it’s not.

  • @Matthew-oi6kz
    @Matthew-oi6kz 3 года назад

    As much as I wish Sodor was real, most of the information in the video you reacted to is fictional, the exceptions being the Barrow Blitz in 1941, the first book coming out in 1945, the newly crowened Queen going on a tour of the railway regions in 1951, engines starting to be scrapped in 1963, steam officially being ended in 1968, the show starting in 1984, an engine being named Wilbert in 1987, and Wilbert Awdry sadly dying in 1997, thoes facts are true to real life. HOWEVER, if anything, that makes it even better because The Unlucky Tug, while amazingly compiling it into one video, did not make any of this information up. All of this is lore and history created by Rev. W. Awdry, and his son Christopher, which shows how dedicated they were to making Sodor realistic and have reasons for being the way it is.
    Sorry for such a long comment...
    Also, as a side note, Diesel 10 is different from Diesel, and was not in the Railway Series.
