A VERY interesting arrangement for this iconic piece! Whether or not I loved all the artistic choices here, I thoroughly enjoyed analyzing :] what's next for me to analyze by VoicePlay?
I think this is Eli’s first outing as the primary arranger, which made me happy. I actually loved this arrangement, but I’m not fond of the song itself. Lyrics that say “I’m a loser” or “I want to die”-I don’t need that in my head. I’m fine with sad songs but I can do without “I’m suicidally depressed” songs. LOL.
@@lkayh not the first. He also arranged eleanor rigby. and he's arranged several mini's, and also written an original "1 minute musical" called Lightbulb 🙂
This arrangement made one reactor cry & brought several others to tears. Voice Play has a way of reaching deep down into your soul. In my opinion I think this was perfectly sung as it should be.
"Favorite VoicePlay" is a high freaking bar with how many iconic pieces they have done. This one got me on an emotional level, which doesn't hit the same when you are focusing on analysis.
Geoff thought the mirror reflecting each person's pain and thoughts. Cesar ran home and got his mirror to use. I've heard some of the other Creep now and for me, I love this one above all others. Each person was not who or what they wanted to be.
I was absolutely the intended audience for "Creep" when it came out, just barely 18 and full of imposter syndrome and self-doubt. It's hard to properly emphasize how powerful it was to hear the airwaves absolutely flooded with this; people didn't really talk about such things as openly in 1992 and it carried a lot more stigma to admit to it. I can see someone who's a fan of the song from a purely musical perspective finding this version too different, but as far as the impact? VoicePlay dug in until they found what made it so powerful thirty years ago and amplified it, playing the incredibly intimate, vulnerable solos off against the group coming together so flawlessly for that climactic stage scene. Everyone is alone together. It's a perfect distillation of the way the original was somehow a tonic against isolation by admitting those feelings to the world at large. I can't fault anyone for preferring the original, but emotionally, this one-ups the original in exactly the right ways.
emotionally it's where this version lost me and I can put my finger on why, it's hits a subtly different emotional cord. Maybe it's just that it is multiple voices and it's not the sort of emotional journey one normally does as a group effort. *shrug*
This is one of my favorite VoicePlay covers. It's so beautiful. I love featuring Cesar's warm, intimate voice at the beginning and end. I like the way the kind of broken, staccato bits feel a bit disassociated--which suits the song.
I wasn't a huge fan of this one at first, but every time I've listened to it, it's hit a little deeper. I've come to see it as a powerful and inspired arrangement
Cesar is brilliant in this, so is Eli, and Geoff, and Layne, but I have to say that it's Anthony's voice, so full of angst, that really sets the tears flowing for me.
I'm surprised you didn't comment on the lighting and Eli arm movements then they go to red. I thought it was really cool.. Also, the emotion on Cesar's face makes such a statement I think too.
One of my favorite songs, love it done by many different artists. Not disappointed at all by VoicePlay. Tears flow each time that big bridge swells. Love your interaction with the music, when the groove hits you and you are feeling it. Your considered breakdowns of technique enhance my enjoyment of whatever you are reacting to. Thx also for that epic convo with Geoff. Loved your discourse with him. Appreciate you and your channel so much. 🙂
I'm not a huge fan of the original song--I just missed it when I was the right age for it--but I actually really liked this version. Without particular attachment to the song itself, this isn't a VP song I'd choose to listen to just because, but I have a lot of appreciation for the vocals here, and the intricacies of this arrangement. Love Geoff's relaxed bass, Anthony's beautiful open belt and those runs, and Eli's ever-epic wail. I hadn't noticed the differences in the sound of Layne's perc throughout the song, but now I can't not hear it. I always appreciate your ability to critique in a value-neutral way, and acknowledge the merits and the skills involved, even if the piece isn't your favorite! And congrats on the new equipment. I'm not as tuned in to picture quality, but the difference in sound stands out!
Wow, Cindy, way to piss on Cesar by not acknowledging his contribution to this cover. I HATE commentors that purposely leave out people. You only like white people?? You got something against Cesar's ethnicity?? Racist.........
I really like how they have swapped the rise and fall around in the first half of this. Makes the ears prick up to a song that had been done a billion times over. Super clever, gorgeous, and oh dear lord Anthony's voice is just something else!
This one actually is arranged by Eli, maybe that's the reason it sounded.. a bit different becasue he doesn't do a lot of arranging for VP. I don't like the original song that much to be honest, and I think this was a pretty good and emotional rendition of it. Everyone did a wonderful job with the vocals, for me Eli and Cesar's deliveries stood out the most, very heartfelt❤️🩹 Thanks Peter for sharing your honest opinion and analysis✌️
Same, in regards to the original vs. this cover. In general, I think maybe anyone's enjoyment of the more 'experimental' covers will be inversely proportional to their enjoyment of the original. I actually really like the use of jagged, broken, text in the BV's. To me, it was evocative of the broken jumble of thoughts going through our heads when we're feeling down on ourselves. especially when they preceded the solo line -- like the internal energy provoking the narrator to sing. So it fits the theme of looking at yourself in the mirror.
I agree, I usually don't like covers because they usually are cheap copies of the originals but VP is on another level! They did covers of songs like Nothing Else Matters or Dream On or Seven Nation Army which I like the originals a ton, but somehow they manage to make it their own, and I love! I also agree on this one about the BVs that they somehow represent our inner feelings, that from time to time we are even afraid to admit to ourselves. Which I think is one of the most important things they are trying to convey, and did a brilliant job at it!
They took the emotion of the original lyrics and made it the focus. The mirrors for introspection and self critique and the emotion in the acting. It all plays more to the self doubt and inability to see one’s worth that the original hinted at. Personally not a fan of Radiohead at all but I can listen to this.
This was so emotionally stirring, absolutely brilliant! You have not reacted to Voiceplay's cover of Eleanor Rigby. It was also arranged by Eli, done at a very sad point for them. Earl had just left abruptly, so Eli ended up singing both tenor lines. It is wonderful, trust me!
I LOVE this arrangement! But what I love most is how each one emotes this so beautifully, but Cesar is the king of sweet, genuine emotion. I wonder...do you ever just go back and listen without analyzing just to feel what they're doing? I tend to need to listen to it a few times through to hear/see/feel it as a whole piece of art before I can even start to go back and analyze the details. Eli arranged this and I think it was brilliantly done. I would LOVE to see Anthony as a permanent member!
I loved the original as this was right as i was going into high-school....but I adored this cover!!! Realllly truly made me feel every moment of angst and struggle as someone who has ALWAYS struggled with imposter syndrome
I felt like this arrangement and video strongly conveyed the feeling of being alone and the center of attention at the same time- Fake it well while feeling every second like you're never gonna make it. Original and most versions make me feel like wallflowering, watching the action and not being part of it. Peter's makes me feel like screaming to the sky after skipping out of my own party. This one feels like the voice on the inside is eating me while I'm being celebrated. Really loved the analysis; The 'underproduced' note really helped add to the level of listening I was doing.
Great analysis as usual. The more i listen to this version the more I like it over the original. It's been around for such a long time and covered so many times I think we get tied to one particular version. For me...I'm digging this one. Looking forward to the next reaction and analysis!
Thanks for these videos-nice to have the information. :) As for the song-haven't heard the original in years, heard a different version a few months ago (the voices sounded great). VoicePlay's version has taken 'top spot' for me (of the versions I've heard). Their talents and feeling/emotion of those words can felt through any screen.
Wasn't a huge fan of Radiohead's version...became a massive fan of the song when Brian Justin Crum did it on AGT. Absolutely blown away by Eli's arrangement. The first words out of my mouth were "H@ly Sh!t".... Better than PTX in my opinion of one....Loved it!!
With all the negative comments below that make me livid, your comment was a breath of fresh air, Dale. Thank you for appreciating our guys for their talent. Too many of the haters are just trying to impress Peter, for some reason. You stuck to your guns and that is to be commended.
I wasn't a fan of radiohead either, but BJC's performance blew me away from AGT. I think that Voice play did an awesome cover as well. I love both Voice play and Pentatonix. They are both awesome groups and they are all extremely talented performers.
Cesar's voice is perfect for the beginning and ending slower parts and Anthony & eli's voice together was perfect for the middle bigger part. Eli arranged this one, it's very interesting and different. Thought they sounded great 💜 Also, Mason, I see your sassiness coming through, cheeky boy 👀🤣
This is definitely one of my favorites of theirs!! To be honest I am not really a fan of the original song. It kind of is just meh to me since I first heard it many years ago, I don't know why but the original just doesn't hit me. But VoicePlay's version just leveled up the song 10000000 times for me. Eli did a fantastic job with the arrangement, I personally love the creative choices that he made. And the video is just gorgeous, the mirrors at the beginning fit perfectly and then the lighting during the group shot was just stunning. These guys can never disappoint. I will definitely go check out your cover of the song because from the snippet of it, it sounds great!! Thank you for the great reaction and analysis as always friend❤
your knowledgeable reactions to other genres keeps me following you. this genre is new to me. another knowledge acquired for me. its because of your reactions that made me go back to my elementary basic music subject. i tried to recall my music teacher teaching us about beats, notes , keys , phrases, octaves etc. My god music is so great thats why i realy respect musicians .
Always appreciate an honest review and analysis from you, Peter! Somehow I never heard the original (I was busy doing other things at the time, I guess), so this was my first exposure (well, second, sort of - I did hear the PTX version from TMS) to the song. There were some things I wasn't 100% sure about on first listen, and while I can't say it's my favorite VP cover, it has grown on me on listening to it for reactions.
Thanks for your time! There are so many versions of this song and, personally, my head is stuck repeating PMJ/Haley Reinhart's version, so I was all weirded out listening to this one at first. I think VP's version is supposed to make us sad and uncomfortable. It's working on me, anyhoo! XD I liked that you pointed some crunchy bits I had missed.
WDYM switching up? I'm pretty sure the original song utilizes Cm in every verse. Not only that, the leading voice forces a Bb note on top of it, which is a minor 3rd in a major key, creating this gut-wrenching punch in harmony. This arrangement might not be 100% respectful of the original with some harmonic details, but it's pretty up there as far as great covers go. Not even mentioning the acting from everyone, shit hits you deep in the feels even if you don't relate that much (Edit): oh nvm you remembered
Congrats on the button! Looks great in the background! Love the color of your hat. Also loved "BIG Bridge! BIG EPIC BRIDGE!" Do you feel you were more biased or less biased, or neither, having done your own cover of it? Glad you liked most of it.
I wonder whether you think the raw, less processed stuff you mentioned actually adds to the feeling of raw emotion we get in this version. Not something I have any experience noting. I can tell it ‘feels’ more stripped down and ‘true’, but I thought it was because of the emotions they displayed (and their purposeful voice cracks). Hearing your input about the production makes me wonder if that played a part as well.
I love your reaction. Whenever a new song comes out by an artist that I follow you are one of the 1st reactors that I go to. What I learned from you helps me listen To other reactors. Congratulations on the 100,000 subscribers. I subscribed very close to the start of your channel And if I could subscribe I watched a video reaction of yours I would subscribe again and again. I get your interview with Geoff
Think I agree with your analysis somewhat. It’s not my favorite VP arrangement, but DEFINITELY appreciate the musicianship and performance. Great analysis as always.
I just discovered your channel through VOICEPLAY who is a favorite group of mine. I am curious of your analysis of a KPOP group EXO They are known as the vocal kings of kpop. EXO(엑소)- Acoustic Session + Lady Luck +(시선둘,시선하나)What If.. This is an acoustic session live of many of their songs But my favorite is Tempo or Miracles in December. Looking forward to more of your videos.
I love this version, and I think Eli did a great job with the arrangement; big props to everyone involved. However... I think my all-time favorite version of Creep is still that performed by Postmodern Jukebox, featuring Haley Reinhart.
Loved the analysis as always. I wasn't a fan of the original, but this is a far better version with Cesars voice absolutely made for the lead. Also, a great improvement on both sound and video quality from your new set-up. The only criticism I have is that it made me nauseous watching your reaction video due to the picture bouncing around a lot. I wonder if there's a way to eliminate the bouncing??
Peter, today I couldn't help but notice that something was a bit different about you (And I don't mean the fluff under the nose 😆) I must say, I always enjoy your analyses and reactions, but this week, you seemed a bit fatigued. You're usually among my top favorite reactors, and it surprised me that you didn't enjoy this song as much as the others. However, I wonder if maybe taking a step back from over-analyzing and simply immersing yourself in the flow of the music could help you appreciate it more. But, of course, everyone has their own preferences. Regardless, I still cherish watching your reactions and eagerly look forward to your next one
I think Peter looks a little pale and thinnish and his voice also feels thinner. I attributed this to the new cam and mic, but maybe you're on to something too. Peter, you OK buddy?
I never really loved the original of this song. I mean I really like it musically, but to me it always felt kinda whiny and "oh have sympathy for me, I can't get the girl" instead the heartfelt deep message of someone struggling with self-doubt that it's supposed to be. In my opinion Voiceplay really put that message at the forefront (and made me cry which is a first for this song) making me actually like this version better than the original.
Eli’s voice is perfect in this one. Not really a huge fan of Anthony. Do not like that type of singing just a personal preference. Also Eli arranged this. Love love love this. Gotta give Eli a break. His first time arranging. I don’t like the song personally and never have in any version. But I agree not my fave from them either. Still love it though
No one talkin about the mustache that Peter be rockin. Looks good and great reaction. EDIT: Geoff also did a G1 growl during the build-up to the final “RUN”.
I feel the same as you. It will go on the work playlist, but not my SUPER or YES playlist. I think also EVERYBODY has covered this song, so it's hard to top.
This is an original video from his concert in Kazakhstan in the best quality. - "The story of one sky". (Look at 25 minutes) : Dimash - Almaty Concert | part 3. -- ruclips.net/video/YP1r9wlkmHU/видео.html
If this is first reaction? How can you even react to the full song with how much you pause. I love the intricacies you go over, but lets listen to a lot of the song first and then do a relisten with all your notes or like stop half way go through it and then go over first half and then do second half.. Its a little too much stopping and we are missing a lot of the emotion. Keep doing what you are doing overall as I love the little details you talk about but wish more was heard before you went into these details
At the age of 12. THE HOLLIES released a new song, written for them...."The Air That I Breath". Very sentimental & a very popular group. My brother bought 7" vinyl and played this relentlessly. 1992 same tune, same writer, a modern uptake arranged with lyrics to suit Era. VP are covering the softer 1972 version but the music doesn't seem to fit with the lyrics. Eli gives it the grit it needs while Ceasar mostly & Anthony sing singing higher keep the subdued harmony line afloat with Geoff's bass fitting in. I find he has a beautiful base and the growl lows & subs are taken too unnecessarily. When singing Active genre Vallhahalla it is perfectly suited. Overall it is likeable but not among their best. Great hits cannot be achieved constantly and it is good they have tried something so diverse for themselves. Thank you Peter, the sound system is very clear. Worth the outlay ❤
Not their best work, for sure. Definitely don't care for this version at all. Something's just "off" in it. But, as always, the "music" is stunning - I'm still gobsmacked that human beings can make such beautiful sounds without any instruments. It sure ain't my granddaddy's barbershop quartet-type a cappella music.
@@marshayoung9387 As with any other performance, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I felt it was "off" and it's not a performance I like. No artist can please everyone 100% of the time. There will always be those who like something and those who don't. VoicePlay pleases far more often than not.
Horrible comment. No accounting for your lousy taste in music. Another "kiss up" commentor trying to impress Peter, who is just is deluded with his opinion as you are. You're definitely not a Voiceplay fan, and if you say you are, you're LYING!!!!!!!!!!
I found this version to be a bit disjointed and chaotic in my totally amateur and uneducated opinion. But I enjoyed the R&A all the same. Def not my favourite VP effort.

Congrats on the button! Looks great in the background! Love the color of your hat. Also loved "BIG Bridge! BIG EPIC BRIDGE!" Do you feel you were more biased or less biased, or neither, having done your own cover of it? Glad you liked most of it.
When is the "In The Air Tonight" reaction coming?
Peter, YOUR cover of this is pretty awesome, too. Great analysis.
I haven’t heard this song before, but I do like this version. I always appreciate your breakdown.
"BIG BRIDGE! BIG, EPIC BRIDGE!" 😂
Forgot to add - like the ‘stache!
The new setup looks and sounds great.
And there I thought it was because I got a brand new computer when my 7 yr old one went belly up. Congrats!
In the air tonight, kidnap the sandy claws and we’re good
I'd say I liked it a lot. I wasn't very interesteed in the previous covers, but this one got me back again into the VP train.
Eli arranged, directed, etc for this.
Please critique Pentatonix version of Creep!
VoicePlay just released a fantastic cover of “Wellerman”!
Anthony was standing in for someone who couldn’t show. Eli did the arrangement.
Not so in this one. Anthony filled in for someone who didn't show up in 7 Nation Army.
Climax to a great cool down
Check out Post Modern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhardt and her cover of Creep that will knock your socks off.
I love this version, and I think Eli did a great job with the arrangement; big props to everyone involved.
However... I think my all-time favorite version of Creep is still that performed by Postmodern Jukebox, featuring Haley Reinhart.
Agree! She is a goddess, makes me cry every time I hear her sing it
Love you so VERY special.
I’d love for them to have more baritone folks joining in. They have a lot of high stuff
Meh, you're entitled to your views. I loved this one, made me cry.
I feel like they're waiting on JNone to get done with his service.
That's what I think too. People who like Anthony say they should add him, maybe but I think I rather J. None anyway
Definitely better on picture and sound quality, but maybe a more stable mic stand?
❤❤❤🎉
Okay pornstache 😂 love it Peter
For the algorithm
I like this version of Creep. I love PTX’s and Brian Justin Crum’s versions more though.
Da li je to pokušaj puštanja brkova, ili si skidao gaće preko glave ???
why not your favorite? just curious about why?
Eli’s voice is perfect in this one. Not really a huge fan of Anthony. Do not like that type of singing just a personal preference. Also Eli arranged this. Love love love this. Gotta give Eli a break. His first time arranging. I don’t like the song personally and never have in any version. But I agree not my fave from them either. Still love it though
Not Eli's first time arranging. He did the arrangement for "Eleanor Rigby."
Eli is a great arranger & in my opinion Voice Plays cover tops all others.
I really love this version, but I still think Pentatonix holds the trophy for their cover of Creep. Mitch goes to absolute town in that
I just like the heavy guitar of original song... Cover ? Improvised ? I'm ok with any artistic version from anyone..
Привет,Питер!💋❤🧡
No one talkin about the mustache that Peter be rockin. Looks good and great reaction.
EDIT:
Geoff also did a G1 growl during the build-up to the final “RUN”.
Honestly this song wasn't really my cup of tea. Eli did a great job with arranging this one, but the song in general was ehhh
The shakycam is distracting.
Yeah. Working on a tripod situation for it
Peter... let's do a chakra khan reaction at AGT, he was performing yesterday.
From indonesia
In my opinion nothing is off, it was perfectly sung by as it should be.
You talk too much
You're at the wrong channel, buddy.
I found this version to be a bit disjointed and chaotic in my totally amateur and uneducated opinion. But I enjoyed the R&A all the same. Def not my favourite VP effort.
