BB2:
-good lower bass
-directional sound
-limiting issues at high volumes making it struggle with heavy tracks (similar with Xtreme 2)
HPB:
-wider, room filling sound due to its drivers lay-out
-retains more upper bass at high volumes so its more punchy

I like when you include the frequency response tests, I think those can give people a better idea on the bass performance.
I appreciate the fact that you actually compared the speakers on different music genres. Every reviewer seems to play mostly electronic samples with no vocals! I thought the Hyperboom had the best vocal sound and I'm sure with it's full equalization capability, it can be dialed in to one's perfect sound.
I preferred the overall sound of the hyperboom but I do like how deep the boom box 2 gets.

Boombox to directional u need to be directly in front of it to get good sound and the hyperboom goes higher in decibel when measured with meter..

The boombox 2 goes a tab deeper than the Hyperboom in terms of bass.
Is bass really everything that you care about? What about the other 80% of the song?
@@luis.aacjara Sound starts from low frequencies. Goes onto mids. And finally to highs. If you don't have bass, the music sounds stupid. To be honest, the Boombox 2 does sound better because it does go a little bit deeper.
@@basslover666 not at all, most of the music comes from the mids. Yes, if the bass and the highs are inexistent, the music will sound terrible, as it should, but if it doesn't have mids, it'll sound even worse. The most important thing when deciding over such a small margin is instrument separation and clarity

Here is the problem with an indoor test like that, especially in a small room. You have to put either box and the mic in the SAME SPOT. Otherwise the room will alter the bass response. If you move either speaker or mic just by a foot, it could be several db higher or lower output.
My guess: The boombox 2 was sitting closer to a bass peak spot or the hyperboom towards a bass dip.
All other sounddemos I heard, the hyperboom had more deep bass output, especially at max level. Those demos were outdoors, where spots with bass dips/highs don't exist.
I have a hyperboom at workand boombox 2 at home. To be honest I have to agree with cNet and Gymcaddy I much prefer the hyperboom both for battery life, form factor , robustness and sound.

@@boofa1993 sorry no you're wrong. The boombox 2 has a 10,000mah battery, the hyperboom has a 12,800mah battery. The boombox 2 limits power usage when unplugged which might make it seem the case but it isn't .
BB2 sounded a bit scary with bass apparently coming straight from the abyss..! Hyperboom sounded brighter and mostly balanced...
Still! to this day 5-21-2022, I was at a flea market in Florida where The JBL Boombox 2 and the HYPERBOOM both were there. I demonstrated by playing Pink Floyd's "Us and Them." AGAIN! the JBL Boombox 2 out performed the Deep Deep bass that the HYPERBOOM could not produce. HYPERBOOM can produce a lot of bass but with a boomy bass where the Boombox 2 can go to lower bass frequencies. If I want a warm, natural sound, you can get that from much cheaper less quality speakers. I paid for Agressive Attacking variable frequency sound. JBL Boombox 2 is well worth it! Along with deeper bass, I want to hear crispy crashing symbols and pronunciations where you can even hear an artist sniffle in a recording. You must try Elite, In Studio musician artists like Sting, Pink Floyd or Steely Dan. JBL Boombox 2 is hands down "The Winner" there. Hip Hop R&B or Club Music generally sounds good even comparible in most speakers.

It's hard to judge as everyone has different tastes and audio tests don't do each speaker justice, but the Hyperboom seems to have a more serious sound. The Boombox 2 seems to be primarily for parties and thumpier music if that's your thing.
Well if you like over heavy bass heavy rap music then JBL but if you listen to alot of pop or classic one speaker maybe better since not all rap songs are heavy on I like run dmc sounds good a a decent stereo so unless you are pumping out worse than bass hunter music and realy heavy bass then do us all a favour get a sub woofer that's the limits of a portable speaker get a proper DJ involved since they have 24inch sub speakers for real proper sound stage PA system sounds better than most of these lol
After watching oluvs comparisons boombox2 vs hyperboom outdoors, the hyperboom out performs the boom box outside with more clarity and more bass. The louder the boom box2 is the more distorted the sound is. Check oluvs review of the two speakers.

If you need more tweeter sound u can adjust the EQ manually higher on the UE
I'd go with the Boombox, the UE sounds similar to the Sony XB43, as if the sound is coming from a closed room.

Bass jump mode on hyperboom sometimes sounds muddy whereas the flat profile sounds more alive and crispier with decent needed bass and way better than boombox 2.
Boombox 2 whereas sounds overall nice in most aspects and it got deep bass too if listen carefully.

Thank you for this review. I am trying to decide between JBL Boombox, UE Hyperboom and HK Aura Studio 3. This is mostly for home use. I listen to a lot of electronic dance music and am looking for a full, rich sound with good base at low to mid volumes. From my research so far I gather that UE and HK might be slightly better but I can't decide. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

i remeber you have a 1 video that you said you accidentaly dropped or damage the boombox 2 i think jb uses better materials of lastic because yesterday i accidentaly bumped my bb1 nothing happend just little scratch.
There was something about the UE natural sound that didn't sound as good as it truly can sound. I've heard other sound test where it will hold its own against any other current bad ass speakers..

Man... can you compare Boombox 2 with 2x Onyx Studio 5/6? The price is similar, so... is it a big difference with double Onyx vs. Boombox 2? 💪 And maybe will you turn on the „low frequency mode” in Boombox ?
The onyx studio 5 and 6 sound almost the same as the boombox 2, just not as loud (they are about as loud as an xtreme 2 but with very similar bass to the boombox 2). Also, the 'Low Frequency Mode' is trash, the passive radiators just move more at max volume but the bass is basically gone
@@darksoul1324 lfm isn't trash because it's not meant to be used...
JBL uses this mode for their speakers to repair them for example. So they can see if the speaker plays the frequencys well

I had a boombox 2 and a hyperboom and for real, the hyperboom sounds a lot clearer in the mids and highs but for the bass, the winner is the boombox...
Overall, for me, the hyperboom is the better sounding speaker. Just a lot more of a clean sound coming out
what does your test at the end mean? which one is better?
The frequency response test at the end is to show how the speakers reproduce that low bass (louder=more bass)

@Koen 145 though if one radiator is stopped from moving the other side moves more which provides same bass. Although its not balanced on the ears.

The hyperboom is too expensive for me. But i got the Boombox 2 in the jbl outlet for 198€. The Hyperboom seems like its never on sale. Otherwise i would have bought the jbl xtreme 3.

At max volume UE is louder , JBL sounds a bit muffled and ear piercing to listen to.

@@jonathanoxlade4252 I've owned the first boom box which sounds 99% the same as the second. Trust me it looses bass when it's at 100% and can be ear piercing on some songs. Bass is more mid , not really that heavy or deep. It's a good indoor speaker but I prefer the UE hyperboom, just my preference.

Bb2 has very little high bass but its low bass is dominating.....ue has balance bass between high and low bass
Bb2 has a more neutral bass response with an emphasis on low bass which makes mixes sound thumpy and rumbly. Ue has very overemphasized upper/mid bass which makes it sound boomy but poor low bass which makes mixes lack thump and rumble

I’ve had both of these speakers I didn’t like the JBL boombox because it didn’t sound much different then my extreme 3 one thing I didn’t like about the boombox is over 80% the bass doesn’t get any louder so it sound like the bass is behind the miss and highs witch makes it sound like it has less bass the hyper boom doesn’t have that the bass volume always go up with the mids and highs the boombox has more deep bass then the hyper boom but the hyper boom has louder and more bass just doesn’t go down as low and up close the JBL boombox seems louder but it’s not from far away the hyper boom is louder the JBL just seems loud bc it has a higher sound stage personally I like the bass at lower volumes more on the JBL boombox it has more bass at low volume but not that much you can only notice that the boombox goes lower the hyper boom sounds better I would go with the hyperboom in my opinion it’s also easier to store bc it’s like a big rectangle the boombox is like a big cylinder the boombox is more comfortable hold bc of the handle place meant but the little lines on the handle are plastic and they hurt your hands to hold over time the rubber handel doesn’t hurt when you hold it for along time

Hyperboom has a more muddy sound, baffled. BB2 has a better overall, and more bumpy, percussion-wise speaking.

Just bought boombox 2 for 340$ in Ukraine. I dont know why it is so cheap in our country. ND version.
I had both 50-80% bb2 wins but at 100% ue wins Jbl takes the bass away at 100% and it sounds harsh ear piercing.

Agreed. Hyperboom deliver same amount of bass, mid and tweeter as it should low or high volume whereas boombox losses it's bass in high volume and sound a little distorted

The sound isn't more clear, yes it has more bass but at high audio levels the boombox 2 reaches ear piercing levels, the hyperboom retains its sensible sound signature at high audio levels unlike the boombox 2, which emphasizes the mids and highs.
That wierd because the hyperboom has 229 watts of out put and at best buy it was more powerful sounding but in the video the boombox sounds better I still heard 40 hz

LFM is trash, the passive radiators just move more at max volume, it gets a bit louder (not really noticeable) and the bass basically disappeares

The JBL has far superior bass. I dont know why many reviewers say that there is more bass on hyperboom. Thats nonsense. BUT, the jbl has some obnoxious/unpleasant tones with some music styles. Its a toss up. Do you want a more pleasant full range, or do you want superior bass?
JBL has more bass on max volume? I have only hyperboom and can't compere myself, but according to other reviews on youtube - hyperboom is louder and don't loose bass on max volume, like JBL..
@@boukyakunosenritsu I know! I keep reading them. But after all that, I returned to best buy and listened side by side again. And its unquestionable. JBL sounds like there is a subwoofer in the room. Hyper sounds outstanding but missing that whole deepest frequency. I'm a jazz drummer, composer, I have absurdly expensive studio monitors, 900 dollar in ear monitors. I still wouldnt claim to be an audiophile, but I have alot of things to compare to. And I unquestionably prefer the sound of the JBL. I want to feel the bass in my nuts. JBL delivers. Maybe ill change my mind after I get it? Doubt it lol.
@@doublehead1973 Dude, I’m thinking the same thing. I just got the Hyperboom and I don’t understand where people are getting the idea that it has more bass. It’s kind of underwhelming to be honest, but I remember the bass in the Boombox 2 at bestbuy being super full and thumpy (and that was just at the display section where acoustics sound horrible) so I may just switch over. The Hyperboom does have a great overall sound though - it’s just that I’d like a bit more from the low-end. It doesn’t make me want to move or dance lol.
hyperboom is undoubtedly the best I have both but if you want better sound quality don't hesitate to buy the hyperboom louder and cleaner and 100 dollars less
