    Hey Shaggy! Love your videos as always. I've noticed you often highlight exciting moments in solo games across your videos, which is great! If you haven't already, I'd love to see a dedicated top 10 list of the most exciting/fun/addictive repeatable moments in Your specific solo board games history This could compile and expand on those insights you've shared before.
    Like you do already, for each moment, it'd be awesome if you could describe:
    1. The specific game mechanic or moment
    2. Why it's so thrilling or addictive
    3. What type of player would enjoy it most
    For me, I love the feeling of being on the edge of step 19 at the gates of loyang whether I made it or not. :)

    I started noticing that the more I rotate my games, the less joy they bring me, the more anxious I get and the more I feel the need to buy and try new games. I'm trying to slow down now and focus on games that I have and focus on going deeper into my games. Playing a game a couple of times, then shelving it and getting a new one is damaging my psyche too much, so I have to stop.
    I've been playing Imperium Classics for a week, then I had 5 days of Pax Pamir, and started playing it online asynchronously every day (that means I play just a little bit of Pax Pamir every day for almost two months now). After that I played Fire in the Lake for two weeks, recently I finished playing Spirit Island every day for about 10 days and now I've assembled two decks for my Arkham LCG Edge of the Earth run that will take me around 10 days too.
    For me it's not about getting good, because I suck at my games no matter how much I play them, but it's about having my time with games and appretiating them more. I think it's when I get to know a game really well, I start enjoying it on a different level.
    On the other hand, there are some games that get stale for me after two plays. Most euros are are just not suitable for dozens of repeated plays in a row, except for maybe Gaia Project.
    When you're a content creator you can't afford a luxury (or a torture, depends on who you'd ask) of playing Fire in the Lake for two weeks straight, that's just not an option. So it's great that you approach games the way you do, because that way you get to have fun and make awesome videos for us!
    That all doesn't mean that I don't like discovering new games, I very much do, but at a slower pace, I guess.

      My wife and I play exactly the same way. We're lucky enough to have a table where we can leave games set up for weeks if we want too. Having stuff just sitting there ready to play with the labour of set up already taken care of really helps us just go knock out a quick 30, 60, 90 minutes.

    I usually get my characters to the end of this War of Mine, battered, bruised and hungry.. but alive. It still feels like a real achievement when I do, avoiding those gut wrenchin moments such as when a character gives up and just wanders off into the city, or dying from their wounds with only a round or two left of the game/siege to go.

    Agree, so much easier naming all the games I suck at, but for some reason Terraforming Mars Ares and Hallertau I am pretty good at. I think it is just the engine building/efficiency puzzle of those games that works for my brain.

    Great list Shaggi, my secret powers are in Ra, splendor Duel, high society, and for sale.
    And like I don’t know why. I remember the gal that was teaching me splendor duel finally telling me “nobu you cannot possibly win this game without stealing” and like the lightbulb went off. Those are the games (and maybe toss in captain flip) that I don’t lose often at. They are not even my favorite games.

    I'm decent at deck and engine builders. It's a mechanic I immediately picked up when I dove into modern boardgames. Dominion is one of the very first modern boardgames I played. Large in part because I used to play a lot of CCG and TCG. While a card based game will not have the same words and play a bit differently, what I know from MTG and the like translates. I don't know the strategy to this but it's card based so "draw a card" will be powerful.

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  5 месяцев назад

      I can totally see how experience with TCGs would translate nicely into games like Dominion. That's very interesting. I've struggled with most engine builders for whatever reason, but I have never been a big TCG player. Thanks for checking out the video!

    Nice follow up. I generally believe you are a great player, seeing your playthroughs 😊 For me, Race for the galaxy with first arc expansions. What drew me was the theme and the art (I know, weird since its art is not the best) and it instantly clicked. Then followed some thousands (literally) games in bga. Ability to see synergies between the cards I guess and learning from others and my mistakes (did reach top spots). Also, games like Friday and at the Helm for solo. Some decisions are tough but I mostly storm through the decks on easy (for me) decisions. Probably, again, I can see what works and what doesn't, making the most out of the abilities.

      One of my friends is exactly like you with Race for the Galaxy. You've probably played him on BGA -- he is one of the top players on there or used to be at one point. I don't think I'll ever play a game that many times. Kind of cool and scary at the same time! :) Thanks for watching!

    the loop is awesome Mr Shagz. i like the art style kinda suits it. Love Frostpunk. i even lose during setup... how about a top ten solo games you tend to 'reset' early or 'fudge' a turn to make things go in your favor. or are you 'hardcore' and wont even 'cheat' to see how a game plays out. (im talking solo only! cheating with other players is sorta stupid and immature)

    I don’t know if I’m really that good at any game. I play a lot of BGA, and I’ve played many games dozens of times, but I seem to plateau around ELO 250 on each one. I can’t seem to make the leap from decent to good.

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  5 месяцев назад +2

      Ha, anytime I have over 200 ELO in a game, I think I'm a damn genius. It is usually short lived. Although I'm usually playing with my friends who are better at games than me. I need less skilled friends! Also, I kind of hate the idea of ELO. I'm the kind of player that likes to shoot for the moon -- either first place or last place. ELO rewards playing for second, playing safe, playing smart, and I cannot support that mentality. Thanks for watching!
