    I sew the bag first, then trim and wax it. My bags are well used. Would recommend this project.

    I’ve wanted to make beeswax wraps and went looking on RUclips for tutorials, but the ones I found were quite labor-intensive and messy. Your way of making them is brilliant!

    This is fantastic. I was watching another channel and she made food bags with a plastic-coated cotton, which I a) would like to avoid and b) don't have any, and I was going to ask if she thought I could sew beeswax wraps to create a bag. Now I know it's possible!

      Yes, I do have some metal clips but the plastic ones are easier to open I find. In their defence, they have lasted me for ages and I'll probably keep hold of them forever! c x

    I love them! My concern was if I sewed them on my machine would the beeswax clog up my machine as a certain amount will get caught on the feeders and the needle?

    • @SewistChannel
      @SewistChannel  Год назад +4

      I've sewn quite a bit of waxed cotton and never had any issues. Maybe if you sewed for hours and the light on your machine made everything a bit warm it might cause the beeswax to migrate but I'm sure it would just act as a lubricant rather than clog it up? c x

If you did it yourself you just melt everything together? If bought could you indicate where please ? 😊 Thank you in advance!! I can't wait to try it!

    • @SewistChannel

    Wondering where I can get the beeswax, coconut, jojoba oil cakes or if you could supply a recipe so I can make them at home?

    • @SewistChannel
      @SewistChannel  2 года назад +2

      I bought the ingredients separately and melted them in a tin over a pan of water. I used about 2 parts beeswax, one part coconut oil, few generous splashes of jojoba oil and then poured the mix into soap moulds to harden, c x

      Didn't like the sound of the pine resin, looking at comments online it seemed to make the mix too sticky and with pets in the house that was the last thing I needed - dog hair in my sandwiches! c x

    Thank you so much for such a nice video, clean, short, and direct! since I don't have at the moment jojoba oil at home, I would like to know what is jojoba oil for, is it too bad if I don't use it?

    • @SewistChannel
      @SewistChannel  2 года назад +1

      It shouldn't be too bad if you don't have any, I believe it's anti bacterial which is why I added it. My first beeswax wraps were without it and they were fine. I washed them in washing up liquid between uses and that kept them bug free, c x

    Is your iron tray a hard hard plastic? Where did you find it?

  • @laurietaylor401
    @laurietaylor401 2 года назад +1

    I'm back again. I ended up using the semi-solid coconut oil. I understand the 3-1 ratio for wax/coconut oil, but it makes a difference if it's cups or tablespoons as to how much jojoba oil I used. So far I have melted 3 cups of wax to one cup of coconut oil. Should I use my whole 4 oz. bottle of jojoba oil?

    • @SewistChannel
      @SewistChannel  2 года назад +1

      No, you won't need that much. I know it's far from precise but 'a good splash' should be adequate. It will distribute through the melted wax and provide the wrap with some degree of anti bacterial, anti microbial and anti fungal protection, c x

    • @laurietaylor401
      @laurietaylor401 2 года назад +4

      I ended up using the whole bottle. With 3 whole melted cups of beeswax and the semi solid coconut oil (one cup) it made for a nice pliable finish when applied to the fabric. I can always add more wax as I have a bunch.

  • @laurietaylor401
    @laurietaylor401 2 года назад +1

    Do you use the liquid coconut oil or the kind that's kind of solid?

    • @SewistChannel
      @SewistChannel  2 года назад +1

      The solid when cold stuff. I assume there must be something added to liquid coconut oil to keep it liquid, c x

      @@tarba sorry, been away for a bit. I'd try lessening the pressure on the foot if you can, making sure you have a new/sharp needle, and use at least a 3mm long stitch. Did you use quilt weight cotton to coat with beeswax? Is your beeswax too thick? c x

    Can I sew the bag then add the wax to it?

    • @SewistChannel
      @SewistChannel  Год назад

      You won't be able to coat the bag once it's made because it will stick to itself as you're applying the wax. It is much easier to coat the fabric when it's flat and a single layer, c x

    • @laurenhodzen5058

      That's not true... just pull it apart before it dries, the wax will mess up your machine. I know because it messed up mine after two bags.

    Great idea. // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.
