- Hi everyone!! Come and check out the new Joint!!
Over the next few vids we'll show you how we transform this block and shed into a little base camp for our family. We have taken 10 weeks to complete the build and we are stoked with how it's turned out.
This is part 1: Our first impressions and jobs on the Block!
We bought this place sight unseen while drinking beers in Exmouth last year. Crazy we know, but we think it's turned out alright!
Let us know what you think in the comments.

In December 2015 we packed up and hit the road for what we thought would be a 12 month Lap of Oz. Fast forward 6 years and we are creating a video series of our travels to show you all what it’s like to live life on the road!!

So delightful watching your lovely family seeing your new property and all the ideas come together, your story put the biggest smile on my face, wishing you and your family all the best with new ideas with your new property, just awesome paradise you have the Aussie dream. well done.😊
Thank you so much!
Hi mate, I just found your video. I live in Scotland, but have been to Oz 5 times. I love the country, the people, and most of all it's nature. After only 20 minutes of this post, I have to say you are going to lead the life that I would love. Although I have been to Sydney, Queensland is where I love with a passion. My last visit 6 years ago, I found relatives in the Glasshouse Mountains and stayed with them for a few weeks before I went off camping. My cuz's had 5 acres including an acre of water (dam). 40 species of birds, 5 species of snakes and a platypus in the pond that they hadn't seen in 4 years, but I did. I will follow your post as you live my dream. Best of luck to you and your family.
Great to see you have a different adventure. The 3 acre is great investment, one thing you will find is on property the most important is water, the tank size you have will last a month, you may need a bore to top it up. If your drilling ensure it’s greater than 30M from sewerage and dam. You won’t need to go far for good water. Another is you will need a 15 M perimeter around house with very low scrubs like a fire zone free of trees.( you can have over house just a dead zone).
Keep grass very low in this zone and you will have minimum snakes and mice. If you have chooks they will come because of feed.
In the dead zone run a circle of 50mm AG pipe with sprinklers and make sure your generator can run your bore.
Such a beautiful place to live in. No crowd, no noice, only natural elements.
Just a thought ! Sea containers to biuld work shop two 40 s space in between!!the place is beautiful 😍 all the best
Thanks for letting us join in the fun. Here's something to help with all the things from the big green shed you'll be needing :)
Give me a home among the gumtrees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, and a kangaroo
A clothesline out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair
👏👏👏👏
First thing it made me think of when the drone went over! 😂
What a great spot guys. It's great to see the kids pitching in & working. There's nothing like a wonderful family working as a team. I've been following you guys from here in NZ for a fair while now & really enjoy your episodes 😊
Can't wait to see what you do with your new base. Also looking forward to more "on the road" adventures. It's been amazing watching your three kids growing up. They're so we'll adjusted to your lifestyle. They'll grow up to be good people because of the experiences you've had with them, and your closeness as a family. Lots of love & all the best team. 👍 😀😀
Thanks so much
This ep is very inspirational. I love it how people built and DIY, it's something I admire. Look like you guys have a good spot, it's look serene from the drone footage. Congratulations 🎉
Thanks heaps mate, great spot
So happy for you all to have a new home, was so happy when the kids got their trampoline, they deserved it too, lovely lovely lovely kids you have.❤️❤️❤️
Thanks very much. Tramp is a lot of fun!
We live in a “Shouse” with a a fam of 6. It’s amazing fun our kids love it We all ❤️ you’re channel. Enjoy your base camp!
I've watched this three times now, my absolute dream is to have a place like that. Great work, congrats :)
The look on becs face....priceless 😅 so nice to see the kids so excited....great vid 🤠❤
Thanks mate
Welcome to the neighbourhood! Love what you have done with the place! You are the first owners to put some real love into the property. Look forward to part 2.
So many firsts for you all now, be super mindful of run off water, spoon drains are the way to go, love the idea of setting a portion aside for camping, great semi passive income. Agree with the idea of Sea Containers for a cheap build either on the hill or near the shed, stackable n easy to add to with a bit of foresight.
Looking forward to the progress videos. Suggest a light coloured roof n walls for your colour change, way better for heat reflection. See if you can stock your dam with yabbies or red claw n bass or perch
I saw that advertised!
That view is awesome
Poor Bill when you took his wind chimes dad. He walked away pretty sad 😆…. You guys are an inspiration and so much love for your family
Who doesn’t love a wind scheme? ESP a gong or wooden one. Bill is more I tune with his spit UAP side maybe! Haha
Hey guys well done!! A good bit of Aussie paradise. Building one bit at a time gives u the vision of how to slowly expand your oasis in the bush. Your hard work and dedication will rub of on the kids. They will a great family life experience to remember. And so will you hahaha. lol!!
Nice place. A bit rough but you can turn it into what you want - You did well.
That moment mum stands back and watches the kids have a ball on the trampoline, priceless! Congratulations guys, awesome wide open place just what the kids ordered 😉👏.
Thanks!
Looks great guys
Hi guys,
Sorry I haven't commented for a while, we have been busy fixing our house after the floods here in Ipswich.
Whow, just whow, we are genuinely so so happy for you all, what a absolutely beautiful property. How exciting for you all. We also want to tell you that you are such an inspiration to us, it's so refreshing that there are still families out there that are so loving and kind to each other.
Congratulations and love ya's heaps.
Roger and Trish. ❤️ 💙
Congratulations guys. enjoy it and keep those ideas growing, it's a great feeling watching things come together when your building
SUCH A FUN EPISODE...... TAKING WHAT ONE HAS AND DOING SOMETHING GREAT......
Be glad you didn't have to build the trampoline Xmas eve, half short, tired and grumpy. Great dad experience.
Keep the dream alive, whether you are aware, or oblivious in your happy bubble, Australia has huge challenges coming, the likes our beautiful country, and her mostly decent Australians have never seen! Shop local, support farmers markets, your communities more than ever! Best wishes.
Ace, so many great times ahead. Living the non-moving dream 😝🤪😘
Mowing may become your favourite activity.
Load up the playlist on your head phones and disappear for hours!
I bloody love it 👌
First trip to Bunnings big clothesline 😁
Gosh that looks like a place I use to drive past in Landsborough, what a magic spot for you all to drop back to and recharge, with the price of fuel now it’s worked well for you. So much fun you’re all going to have. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Judy
What an amazing spot well done - can’t wait to see how the new base camp evolves - looks like the entire tribe approve of the acquisition 👍
Love your work. You’ve had ‘Trip in a Van’, now you got a ‘Place beside the Dam’ 👍😃
Beautiful base camp. Love the dam. I can't wait to see how you transform the shed.
Love this video..your place looks absolutely gorgeous 😍 We lived in a shed for 2 1/2 years while building our house and we still reckon it was one of the best things we ever did, and the kids loved it. When it’s right it’s just right 🤩 Keep living the dream guys 🫶
Congratulations so happy for your family
So happy for you guys. The kids are not going to know themselves with so much space to themselves. Stay safe and love to all.
Hope your enjoying base for a while!
Congratulations on your new property and enjoy your huge garden. Looking forward to the next video.
What a beaut chunk of paradise! Can't wait to see how it all evolves and really can't wait until you list it as a campsite! Already made a booking....in my head...haha.
What a special place. I think it was waiting for you to come along and buy it.
Well now...... Combining my 2 favourite things, camping and building. TIAV is really getting better all the time! What a beautiful looking place guys, congratulations. Can't wait to watch the transformation of this place - love the diversion from the normal trips (inspiring as they are) - this looks like such a cool place. Enjoy every moment
Great to be able to have four walls and a roof that's not on wheel as a place to go when not out and about.
Loved the episode and the work you've done so far. Have fun making the shed a home. Cheers Guys
Must have been a hell of a beer in Exmouth. Love the freedom you guys have, look forward to seeing the new rig and van.
Was in that brewery a month ago!
Now back in UK😬
@@midlandgeordie I was there last week! Love Exmouth.
Very nice block
Stoked 😍
I personally am full of envy TEAM! looking forward to finding something special before they all disappear for me and my little princess!
Loved watching this video it remains me of my place 11 years ago. Me and my wife started out with a 5ah block with a lot of trees where our house was going. 11 years on and have 3 decks 2 big sheds chock house and a beautiful View over our dam and small Creek. If your ever coming though My way would love to have you call in or stay so I could show you are
What a beautiful spot, a neat way to set up a base, great location, I grew up in the country, the kids will love it.
Congratulations super special for you - enjoy the process
Must feel good to have a piece of land to play with. Looks like a cool pad. 👌
It is lovely to have a home base!
Great episode .You guys deserve all the good things that are coming into your lives because you have worked hard to get there. All the best.
Thankyou so much mate
Good to see you setting up a base camp. Don't do anything to dramatic until you get the feel of the place and the changes in the climate.
Absolutely brilliant Reno guys. Love it
Haha Justin "I like that fence!" such a bloke moment! Congrats guys very exciting to always have somewhere to come back to. Not sure gow exposed you are but we pegged our tramp down with star pickets down about 400 and fencing wire just to make sure she doesn't blow away or damage something else
The look on the kids faces when you walked into the shed. I'd call it Tranquility.
Brilliant guys, I spoke sometime ago about buying a yacht after my wife passed. Well I bought a off grid shed, 30acres, just north of Gin Gin. How’s the serenity 👍🍺.
Amazing mate. Huge congrats - I bet your wife would have loved that☺️
@@TripInAVan thankyou guys, and yes she would have. Great to see the excitement on your kids faces, that’s what it’s all about👍
I'm obsessed with everything about this! its absolutely gorgeous!
Hi you lot, congratulations on the purchase of your new adventure, we totally get where you are at, ten years age we did pretty well the same as you guys, sold everything, did a few laps (amazingly stayed at so many exact camp spots as you have) unintentionally ended up buying a hundred acre scrub block with a little house (now had a reno) stand alone solar near Childers, you guys won’t regret it, yep its a bit hard work to start with but that’s half the fun, hey mate must haves ; bloody good mower, 4x4 tractor and an atv! We have also put in caravan sites, Dunny down the shed etc for mates travelling, have fun guys and enjoy the serenity, ps no Nieghbor’s 🎉
Congratulations on the new block 😃😃
Definately an adjustment period to go through, but exciting at the same time. We sold up and travelled back in 2018 (mid life crisis), until we moved onto our property last year. Life is full of adventures...whatever that is.
Enjoy 😎😎❤
have been following you guys for ages now. so happy you have found your base camp. looks amazing. look forward to seeing the changes as you go.
Good on ya guys! What a deal!!! Makes me excited!
Hi mate. Best way to insulate the roof is to remove the iron and install anticon insulation under the iron.
Not a big job when you get into it.
The block is super cute Bec! You should be so proud u found a little bit of paradise for your little family guys. It’s no easy feat livin on the rd for months let alone yrs! ESP in a van. But u have inspired many to experience it. Life is too short not to. The kids trust me will be one of few who left their back yard to go anywhere! But they love a house too..just don’t ever again get stuck in the rat race. enjoy you little homestead and can’t wait for the goats! 😂 only advice. Kids need bikes asap.
The ones with engines.. 🏍
Beautiful setup you can see the Kids love the space to call home although just a base but still it’s your home👍
When you get back from the snow take yourself to Borumba Dam and have a go at Bass fishing it’s a stunning waterway to explore. You just need a sips permit.
Yes! That’s the plan. Sounds like a fab spot.
Don’t forget the Saratoga too! Bring a couple home for your dam.
It's funny whenever I see people talking about my home town on RUclips 😂 good old imbil😂
Great holiday spot, just never move there. It will suck u in and spit u out quick as.
Hit the jackpot guys very nice place 👍👌❤
Well done guys. Nice to have a spot to put roots for a spell. What an exciting chapter.
Congratulations on getting a home base. Looking forward to seeing how mix it with life on the road. Cheer’s!
Thank you.
Well done team TIAV, what a blissful spot to call your own. The look on your faces is something different than I've seen you have in any of your vids I've watched and different in a good way I reckon. Sign you 100% made the right call that new years eve to take the plunge and buy it. So much progress in such little time you'll have that place tricked out in no time.
Your going to love that hustler there a good zero turn
You guy's work so well together.
Congratulations guys I have been watching you guys for awhile now and I’m so happy for you all living your dream ☺️☺️☺️☺️
‘ALLAWAH’ would be a fitting name, indig for stay & rest place.
WOW Congratulations guys, day at a time looks like the kidos are enjoying it to getting there hands dirty GOD BLESS. Cant wait to see the vids that come up from this place
Congratulations! Awesome seeing everyone's big grins and excitement 😁 Looking forward to seeing the progress to come.
OMG,! THAT is so awsome! What a perfect setup!! We have been on the road since Jan 2020 and have been discussing doing exactly what you are doing, the way you are doing it. Super keen to see how you develop the place... Best of luck. Cheers.
That is awesome! thanks mate
Would definitely do a vege garden fruit orchard up the back for food to come back to and the kids and both of you to enjoy 💚
Всю жизнь мечтал побывать в Австралии молодцы шикарное видео,
What a difference in 2 days, looking good..👍
Awesome job guys looks great and the kids are so excited amazing home base well done.
You are so lucky to buy land on the sunny coast well done
Congratulations Guy's Top Block.. wildlife will be wonderfull with the bush and dam. Injoy you're oasis.🥂🍺
Good luck to you guys...lifes an adventure.
Congrats guys, We bought a shed earlier this year too and we're nearing the end of the interior Reno. Big job but worth it! Our biggest roadblock is the fact it's up on the top end of Fraser so there's a lot of pricey trips back and forth with supplies haha. We're also contemplating building something a little nicer on the block in the future too but we're not in any rush. It's hard to decide on what you want to do when there are so many options 😂
Ultimate setup for now , base camp and a decent van , giddy up
What a fabulous spot for you to use as a base camp. It’s going to be amazing watching you all turn it into a little home. The kids just love it. so looking forward to the next video of what you do next. As for a name for the place what do you think of Bundaleer it’s Aboriginal for Among the Trees. just a thought.. I can see the outside fire etc being use a lot and why not it’s perfect, enjoy guys! 🧐😊👌👍
I did the exact same thing last year on 7.5acres Turned an old shed into a shouse Until I can build.
Wow, can’t wait to see what you guys do next. How exciting for you all
This is some bloody good news. Congratulations guys.
We just bought the same size block in rural Victoria with a nursery on half of it.
To new beginnings 🍻🤙🏽
What a place guys you lot are the bomb … good on ya
love it guys, how cool is it to have your own little spot again
Keep "Base camp" as the name!
Suits so well. Xxxx
Vuly does an awesome sun shade for the trampoline. My kids use ours daily! Highly recommended.
Can't wait to see what you guys get to do and expand your base camp!!
I'm sure you guys will make this place awesome. Good luck!
Living the dream! Love your block and shouse. A great base camp!
Beautiful spot perfect
Congratulations on your new home,🌸🦋🍷🍷🌈
For the off grid power,I would hook up the caravan to the house and then you can do a few more modifications down the track. All the best and have a wonderful week 💖🌸💖🦋🦋🦋
Looks like it's going to be an awesome pad guys. Great location.
Awesome spot guys - so happy for you all!
