Reason EA and 2k sports focus so much on the online aspect of their games is because most gamers only play online. I only play the offline modes sports video games
This is actually one of the few people I found that gave an honest review of a game considering this is ign and all. I want this guy to do more reviews.
*sigh* I will never understand how some people struggle to understand game developing.. It's a new game, on a new system, with a new engine... thus, everything had to be added a new. They didn't "take away" anything, they just didn't add it to the new system.... yet. Let's not forget these features we've come to expect were added one by one over DECADES of games being built, not all at once. Replicating them on a new system is, likewise, not going to be able to be done all at once. Sure, it might be disappointing... but a) Development takes time and b) Nobody's making you buy it. This is why the gaming community is so frustrating. They don't know what the hell they're talking about, but it doesn't stop them from bitching endlessly when people fail to meet their unrealistic expectations.
Seems like a lot of the games that come out for Next-Gen look better but have less content and strip down features. Thought that we were suppose to get more... not less. Sooooooo..... How is this the next evolution in gaming again???????
Ea always does that. Take a look at nba live 06 on xbox 360. The game didn't even have a franchise mode. Fifa 06 on the 360, madden 06, they were all barebones

Better physics (puck physics and checking physics.. checking is awesome), improved AI (there's more improvements in AI from 14 to 15 than from 13 to 14), smoother animations/gameplay, bunch of new features (ability to mute players in OTP in a game, GM mode improved, Be A Pro, Simming has faster loading in general). I thought it was gonna be the same too, but its not. So basically what I'm saying is, NHL15 on last gen is better than NHL14 by a long shot.

I have such a long list of things wrong with this game. From missing modes to the god awful commentary (Don't know why a Canadian developer went with NBC for commentary when there are much better commentators on CBC). But I think the biggest slap to the face for me is that when you score a hat trick the crowd doesn't even throw hats on the ice. Are you kidding me?
This game was underrated. If they had to skip bringing in modes for 1 year so they had time to overhaul the gameplay engine in such a major way it’s okay. If you wanted the modes buy it on 360, if you want the best gameplay (by a lot) get it on PS4. This was okay for a year

I'm a diehard NHL fan, and actually play hockey btw. Been playin' these games since 98 on PS1 and while I absolutely LOVE the game itself, I'm very disappointed in the basic features missing. Sad to say but NHL 15 deserves the score it gets. And go Wings!
Love the Islanders reference at the end. I am a huge Islanders fan also, grew up watching them, and still do to this day. I love NH 15, I don't play online so I could care less about the EASHL and HUT. I am disappointed in the GM mode b/c you can't actually draft a player. I give NHL 15 8.5 out of 10 on the PS4.
Not necessarily just talking about this game, but where I think sports game lose a lot of realism is in the commentators. In real life, if something unbelievable happens, they would go crazy. But in the game, they would just say a basic "Oh, great goal", for example, without any emotion. That makes the incredible thing I just did feel normal.
I'm probably going to pick this up for PS4, mostly because my friend introduced me to it on his and it was a lot of fun. I'm new to the series, so the missing features don't really affect me. However, I think the game looks absolutely beautiful, and I have to agree, it looks like a real TV broadcast most of the time!
I realize the game really only goes into depth with NHL teams. Anything in WHL, AHL, or the National league is in lower depth. I live in a city that has a WHL team, and i can personally tell you that it's arena is very different from the game's arena.
I agree totally with this review. I haven't bought a hockey game in a long time, nor have I owned a gaming console in a while neither. I was very excited to play one of my favorite sports on the new gen console, and yet even not having recent experience with a sports video game, even I can tell there's a hell of a lot missing from this. So I guess I am lucky because I am able to more easily dismiss this due to the lack of experience, and at the same time I paid full retail just like everyone else for what almost feels like a purdy demo. There's also some weirdness about the animations. For example, I just totally beat the shit out of an opposing player in a fight, yet I'm the one with the swollen eye, while he looks perfect and getting a drink of water. hmmmm.. Ps: Come on EA. This isn't the first game you've ruined. It seems you like to get hold of a franchise in gaming and then totally molest it because you have the license on it. Get it together.
The only reason I buy EA Sports games is to play the "be a pro" etc modes. However if you guys remember, "NFL Superstar" on Madden was first introduced on Madden 2006 for the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube, but a few months later (the nov. launch in 2005) it was released for the 360, with absolutely NO modes. There was literally Play Now, and Franchise and that franchise was the saddest one i've ever seen in a game, so stripped down. They completely ditched Superstar mode (reason people buy these games).
I love nhl 15 but I think there is 3 things EA needs to fix for nhl 16 1) Cut down the intermission clock by about 10 seconds 45 seconds is fine if you need to take a piss or something but if your just waiting it's a bit long maybe cut it down to about 30 seconds. 2) Find a way to stop you from running into your team by accident like there should be a away for you to go through them as if they were invisible but at the same time still allowing you to crash into the opposing team. And finally 3) The ever annoying faceoff glitch...FIX IT EA! So we don't have to pause the game right before the first faceoff. Other than that nhl 15 is fantastic
I remember when NHL 07 came out on the 360. Less modes, but the gameplay was garbage! Now, we still have less modes, but they actually nailed the gameplay. More modes are being added in September and October for free too. That's kind of good... I guess...

The issue is people are buying it just because there isn't anything else out. My cousin who knew of all of the short comings bought it anyway because Titanfall and Forza have become overplayed (per him). It's unfortunate for the folks who want new games to play on their new overly expensive consoles and feel forced to buy incomplete games to help feel their investment is justified. I will also repeat what I have been yelling about over and over again: "EA! Release NHL on the internet-based digital distribution system you've created (EA Origin)."
How does HUT (NHL) 15 get a 7.0 and MLB 15 The Show only get an 8.5? These are my two favourite sports and I can easily tell you everything from commentary to available game modes is better in MLB. It really isn't even close.
I didn't buy this game last year because they didn't bother to make it for next-gen consoles. I'm not buying it this year because it is literal garbage, aside from the missing features (basic features that have existed from the start) the menu system is laggy - gameplay is "glitchier" than ever and the goals that go in are either lucky or just shit. But there's no other option when it comes to a hockey game so will be playing this with friends a lot.

I'm not a sports fan at all irl but I loved NHL 13. I missed out on 14 because it wasn't coming to next gen, then lost out again on 15 because they left out the best game mode (my opinion) on next gen. Such bs... Anyway, check out "Trolling on ice", you may find joy in that, lol.
My Verdict: Gameplay is pretty good with the exception of a few glitches and ability to manipulate the game to score the same goals time after time. Overall it's awful due to the lack of game modes and replay-ability. It's a total step back in terms of game modes that have been in the game over the past 5 years. No drafting in gm, SUPER SIM IS GONE!, be a pro is absolutely awful (mentioned in the video), some of the cool arcadey modes like online shootout are gone, not to mention the exclusion of OTP and EASHL (also mentioned in the video). I'd give this game a 4 or 5 out of 10 at most. I feel like EA Sports has taken 2 years off being that last year wasn't on next gen and this year is just absolutely terrible. As a big hockey fan and long time fan of the game, I sold this 27 days after I purchased it because I felt like I had been absolutely ripped off. Thank goodness I got two thirds of my money back.
I'm enjoying playing NHL 15 on my Xbox One.. Since I don't really play any mode, except online Xbox Live and vs mode with friends when they visit my home, I have not noticed the missing features mentioned in this video review.. Hopefully EA will patch and update the game and add modes, features etc.. Overall I am actually enjoying NHL 15 more than Madden 15.. Madden 15 is a disappointment to me.. To each his/her own..

When I bought NHL 2013 my registration code fucked up so i could never play online, now this with out a full season mode. I feel scammed again

You can't pick players in the draft, the cpu will do that for you. EA is gonna patch this in october they say.....

The issue is people are buying it just because there isn't anything else out. My cousin who knew of all of the short comings bought it anyway because Titanfall and Forza have become overplayed (per him). It's unfortunate for the folks who want new games to play on their new overly expensive consoles and feel forced to buy incomplete games to help feel their investment is justified.
I will also repeat what I have been yelling about over and over again:
"EA! Release NHL on the internet-based digital distribution system you've created (EA Origin)."

How does HUT (NHL) 15 get a 7.0 and MLB 15 The Show only get an 8.5? These are my two favourite sports and I can easily tell you everything from commentary to available game modes is better in MLB. It really isn't even close.
I didn't buy this game last year because they didn't bother to make it for next-gen consoles. I'm not buying it this year because it is literal garbage, aside from the missing features (basic features that have existed from the start) the menu system is laggy - gameplay is "glitchier" than ever and the goals that go in are either lucky or just shit. But there's no other option when it comes to a hockey game so will be playing this with friends a lot.

because I'm subscribed to IGN and saw this in my sub box and thought, I wanna see what people are gonna say in the comments about this game, and then I felt like posting a comment myself at the same time. So there's the story to why I'm here :)
I'm not a sports fan at all irl but I loved NHL 13. I missed out on 14 because it wasn't coming to next gen, then lost out again on 15 because they left out the best game mode (my opinion) on next gen. Such bs... Anyway, check out "Trolling on ice", you may find joy in that, lol.

It seems like nhl 15 is just a beta for nhl 16.
My Verdict: Gameplay is pretty good with the exception of a few glitches and ability to manipulate the game to score the same goals time after time.
Overall it's awful due to the lack of game modes and replay-ability. It's a total step back in terms of game modes that have been in the game over the past 5 years. No drafting in gm, SUPER SIM IS GONE!, be a pro is absolutely awful (mentioned in the video), some of the cool arcadey modes like online shootout are gone, not to mention the exclusion of OTP and EASHL (also mentioned in the video).
I'd give this game a 4 or 5 out of 10 at most. I feel like EA Sports has taken 2 years off being that last year wasn't on next gen and this year is just absolutely terrible. As a big hockey fan and long time fan of the game, I sold this 27 days after I purchased it because I felt like I had been absolutely ripped off. Thank goodness I got two thirds of my money back.
I'm enjoying playing NHL 15 on my Xbox One.. Since I don't really play any mode, except online Xbox Live and vs mode with friends when they visit my home, I have not noticed the missing features mentioned in this video review.. Hopefully EA will patch and update the game and add modes, features etc.. Overall I am actually enjoying NHL 15 more than Madden 15.. Madden 15 is a disappointment to me.. To each his/her own..
I want to get 2k14, should i or at this point just wait for 16, remember, i only use a ps3.

I recommend NHL 20 more practise modes, 3 on 3 arcade modes, CHEL and more!
