This was one of the only shows on nick with a main character who was a black girl, who was brown skinned with an important position in a company. That’s why it was so memorable to me and holds a place in my heart. Too bad it didn’t get the ratings it deserved.
Because Schneider bought the airwaves and was the face of nickelodeon for 20 years! All his shows (Icarly / Drake and Josh / Victorious) and all this rubbish from the mid-2000s is, to put it mildly, a copy of all the shows that were broadcast already in 1995-2000 ... Schneider had formula and stupidly re-shot a TV show from the 90s ..
I'll never understand how True Jackson VP wasn't a more popular Nickelodeon show, the theme song was a literal bop, I loved Ryan & Lulu as True's friend and the show had some pretty good storylines, even Robbie Amell as Keke's love interest on the show was pretty cool.
The premies isn’t appealing for kids. Being a Vice President of a company is nowhere near as eye catching as being the owner of a viral web show or being a huge pop star. Yes the OP is really good, but that only does so much.
Ikr!! It’s crazy when you realize how people preferred watching nonsense feet scenes in the other shows instead of watching this bop. I don’t remember much about True Jackson but I remember I liked it a lot over many others shows at the time, and I think Keke is too cool for Nickelodeon.
I havent thought about this show in so long and it randomly just popped up in my head and I looked up the theme song. I didnt know it would be this nostalgic 🥺 I'm close to tears, I miss these days so much
Yooooo I just wrote this damn near word for word on Twitter before coming to search the song i felt thisssss my exact sentiments I felt 14/15 and I swear I could drop a tear maybe beca we wanted to grow up so fast
I never understood why this show was so underrated. We loved it with my sister and laughed our asses off, just as much as drake&josh, victorious or iCarly. Then they stopped airing it and some years later we enjoyed it in netflix (around 2014) but then they removed it from there too.
@lecoda OK since you clearly didnt grow up when this show came out like I did, the ideal cast for shows like this during this period were white boys with blonde (predominantly) and flippy hair (just look at Justin Bieber, the top artist during this time) usually a laid back surfer bro or a geek/generic bad boy. no in-between, and for the females it was basically Cali Beach barbie, skater/tough tomboyish, country chick, neither which were common in black communities save for the bad boy trope. how would a black and Asian lead work when the trends at the time were the antehisis of those communities? I can go further if you'd like.
@Derek Jones I was @ing someone else that I think deleted their comment bc it's not there anymore. The other one says "I'm always setting trends with my two best friends. When things get out of hand, we have a plan" I like this one better. I like that it says we always have a plan.
