You made my day... I was feeling soooooo low and frustrated! Thankyou for giving me hope. Thankyou so much! You brought someone back to life right now! Kudos to this channel!
Is it really the end of the world if you have absolutely no interest in research? As an M2 I have not done a lick of research and I am getting concerned that I may not match if I don't at least get a 230 :/
it depends. if its an average-or-higher program, they are better off letting somebody good take that unfilled spot through various means than ranking somebody obviously weak. To be honest, there are so many factors that go into this that it's difficult for me to give you a straight answer
Excellent video thank you!How possible is for an IMG to match Internal Medicine with no US clinical experience(or research) but with a step 1 score over 240?
For IMGs in Internal Medicine: -Average USMLE Step 1 for those who matched: 225 -Average USMLE Step 1 for those who DID NOT match: 210 -Average USMLE Step 2 for those who matched: 234 -Average USMLE Step 2 for those who DID NOT match: 220 -Average contiguous ranks for those who matched: 7.8 -Average research experiences for those who matched: 1.6
I'm curious, I want to become a gastroenterologist, on my personal statement, should I tell the program director I want to be a gastroenterologist or just an Internal medicine physician, seeing that we must do IM before going into GI
Wait what! It says 176 unfilled positions in internal medicine, so does this mean I need to stop fretting about whether I would match or not coz there's unfilled positions, I would be okay matching literally anywhere.
great video. I feel like the data regarding "research" experiences may be misleading. I'd like to see the range for that particular variable since although the average number of research experiences may be "low" for IM, there are many who go into IM in order to specialize later on (e.g. hem/onc, GI, cardio, etc...) and I imagine that those who match into these fellowships likely have a greater number of research experiences. Are you aware of a resource that breaks down these data for the different IM subspecialties?
Hi, thanks for posting this really helpful video. what are the odds of matching after a home residency in internal medicine with decent research experience?
What about graduation gap? If someone wants to match in IM, then the graduation gap of more than 5 years would affect the match or good scores could cover this?
EM is still very possible with that score. I'd need to hear more about you to give you full advice. Perhaps consider scheduling a counseling session with me. Email me if interested!
Hey DirtyUSMLE. I was wondering could you give an idea of what sort of USMLE numbers are competitive for IM programs that have fellowships (mid to low tier University programs and community programs with fellowships) for DO students?
i really love orthopaedic surgery and i feel i like dermatology too.. i am worried.. i am shit shivering in OT room i dunno why i cant stand cold in OT rooms
+DirtyUSMLE what are the chances for an asian to try getting a job in USA? haha and i am muslim..not sure if your president like muslims but i really love a change of environment x
Hey dirty , umm I wanted to ask if an IMG can get matched into cardiology fellowship without internal medicine residency in USA, if he or she has completed cardiology fellowship in their home country after completing USMLE. What are the chances if one has around 6 publications, greats USMLE scores.... Plz let me know
Hi I'm an IMG. Devastated with my step scores but I only got a 212. Is there any hope of me matching into IM/ FM? Or should I just give up. Please help
i have a question regarding usce. can a mbbs student from nepal apply for usce after graduating the mbbs program ? your help would be greatly appreciated.
I am interested in applying to IM, I am a US-IMG step 1 231, step 2 222. Do you think my step 2 might be a red flag? chances of matching? any advice will be appreciated
I'm sorry to hear of your struggles. I would advise you not to try again until you have studied for an extended period of time. Go through UWorld multiple times and dont take the test unless you feel like you can answer every single question confidently
I don't have any feathers on my cap, I am just optimistic about getting a decent step score.unlike other enthusiastic students I don't have any research, publications, gold medals, etc etc. As i am an Introvert, My 4.5 years of mbbs went very inactive. Do I stand a chance?🙄 if yes then what should I do?
Thanks for a great video! I have a question and would be very grateful if someone educated could answer it. How big (realistic) chance do I have to match into internal medicine as an IMG (Czech Republic, Europe) with Step 1 score 249 and step 2 CK let's say 260 (gonna take it in 3 months) without any US clinical experience (observeship, elective). I know that I disadvantage myself if I do not have any USCE. But It's very difficult for me to pay for it. Thanks in advance. :-)
Thanks for another great video!! If an img has 250+ in both step 1 and 2CK but a 5 years gap since graduation, what would be their chances of matching into IM?
You should talk to current IMG residents with similar experiences. I was a US grad with no time between medical school & residency, so I can't speak to this issue
There is no evidence to support any such correlation. Anecdotally, I find the mid-tier of the class usually performs best on Step 1 because they have the foresight/insight to study effectively as opposed to waste time with dumb shit and excessive resources

I like your RUclips channel, better than others. More reliable with information.
Please make a video about this USMLE scoring situation, how it might affects matching, and how will residency programs filter applicants?

Yo this is gold man thanks a lot 🙏🏾
Hello, could you please share your views regarding the matching frequency of non-US IMG’s.
Thank you . 😊
This video is pure gold! Thank you 🙏
Would a program rather leave a redidency spot unfilled than taking a weak candidate? I mean generally speaking, not just internal medicine.
it depends. if its an average-or-higher program, they are better off letting somebody good take that unfilled spot through various means than ranking somebody obviously weak. To be honest, there are so many factors that go into this that it's difficult for me to give you a straight answer
Thanks!

Excellent video thank you!How possible is for an IMG to match Internal Medicine with no US clinical experience(or research) but with a step 1 score over 240?
very possible
@@DirtyMedicine Thank you for the answer!
Great video...keep 'em coming
Thank you!!!!! Can you please do for Emergency Medicine too ? Specially IMGs ?
You could have added the IMG side of the coin too :) Good video though :)
Second this!
For IMGs in Internal Medicine:
-Average USMLE Step 1 for those who matched: 225
-Average USMLE Step 1 for those who DID NOT match: 210
-Average USMLE Step 2 for those who matched: 234
-Average USMLE Step 2 for those who DID NOT match: 220
-Average contiguous ranks for those who matched: 7.8
-Average research experiences for those who matched: 1.6
@@DirtyMedicine isn't it traditionally supposed to be harder for imgs to match...?
@@DirtyMedicine yes isn't it supposed to be harder and shouldn't IGMs have higher avarage scores?
can u explain what does mean number of work. experience ?
Dude, you rock!!! Ty so much
Are webinar also considered as presentations
Thank you so much!!!!!
Can immigrants match into dermatology?
Is there a chance to get matched with a failed step 1 history
never say never, but its really an uphill battle
I'm curious, I want to become a gastroenterologist, on my personal statement, should I tell the program director I want to be a gastroenterologist or just an Internal medicine physician, seeing that we must do IM before going into GI
I might focus on Internal Medicine but thats just my 2 cents

Hi, thanks for posting this really helpful video. what are the odds of matching after a home residency in internal medicine with decent research experience?
Thank you very much. Very helpful.
Great advice. Thank you.
Thank you for the video! Where can I find all this data?
Sir what is the match percentage for IMG's if they want to opt for Surgery? I've heard it's quite minimal
Great info,thank you very much
What about graduation gap? If someone wants to match in IM, then the graduation gap of more than 5 years would affect the match or good scores could cover this?
My step 1 score is 222

Hey DirtyUSMLE. I was wondering could you give an idea of what sort of USMLE numbers are competitive for IM programs that have fellowships (mid to low tier University programs and community programs with fellowships) for DO students?
I would aim for a 225+ to get your foot in the door and a 235+ if you want to match comfortably. Anything 250 and higher is a guarantee
Great work! Thank you for the bullet points :)
i really love orthopaedic surgery and i feel i like dermatology too.. i am worried.. i am shit shivering in OT room i dunno why i cant stand cold in OT rooms
Derm you dont do surgery in an OR.

Go for FM, apply broadly.
ANESTHESIA NEXT BRO!!!! Gassss
i have a question regarding usce. can a mbbs student from nepal apply for usce after graduating the mbbs program ?
your help would be greatly appreciated.
Why is surgery so much more selective than medicine?
I am interested in applying to IM, I am a US-IMG step 1 231, step 2 222. Do you think my step 2 might be a red flag? chances of matching? any advice will be appreciated
Don't think it's a huge deal. Just apply very broadly. IM is a specialty with tons of programs
Would you apply with a 225 step 1 score US senior in a top 40 medical school?
Yes that's very solid
How can I get medicine dermatology this way ..... non us img got 0 seats
you won't match US Dermatology as an IMG. That's just the reality of the system
Doc, your audio seems a bit...low?
Yep, my S.O. was sleeping when I was recording :) Will be back to normal volume on the next vid
I am a medical graduate from India. Failed Step 1 two times. How should I proceed?

did you match?
In all of these videos he never tells us how many years we have after graduating and before applying for match
it depends on the program you're applying to! you need to check the ERAS for each residency spot
Thanks for another great video!!

You should talk to current IMG residents with similar experiences. I was a US grad with no time between medical school & residency, so I can't speak to this issue
Thanks a lot!But green card holders have bigger chances when it comes to residency.
Is there a correlation between class rank and step scores?
There is no evidence to support any such correlation. Anecdotally, I find the mid-tier of the class usually performs best on Step 1 because they have the foresight/insight to study effectively as opposed to waste time with dumb shit and excessive resources
DirtyUSMLE haha thanks for your input!
Hi, my step 2 ck score is 218 and i am working to step 1 now. Which residency could be available for me ?
I would look into programs that have historically taken IMGs and that may have lower average stats.
