Wow! I was RUclips surfing and recognized Frogs Leap. About 10 years ago I sailed her from Seattle to Mazatlan and solo back to San Francisco.

Super cool John! I bought her in 2020 in SF... Sailed her to SD with a couple of friends in 2021... Have been working my way South from SD solo since 2022. So far so good! Departing Playa del Coco Costa Rica later this week. Not sure yet whether I will go through the canal this season or next 🤷‍♂️. Thanks for reaching out John! Glad you found the channel and I hope you enjoy it!

    Great video Rick,
I enjoyed watching you go over the bar. Good job!!! I could see the swell and I was thinking how I wouldn't want to do that. Especially after a long run,...

Thanks Captain G! I would not do it a second time!

It looked like your autopilot was very active making rudder adjustments. Is this normal, and does it draw a lot of battery power? Maybe there is a sensitivity adjustment on the controller? Have you considered a wind vane, or is this just not an issue?

Hi Peter! Thanks for the comment! Yes there is a sensitivity adjustment and I do need to pay more attention to it! 👍

Good music for the first look segment of the video. Were the hotel facilities included in the slip fee, or the other way around?

Thanks for commenting @oaklandmax! For $15 extra the hotel gives you an account at the pool's restaurants & bars. It's a nice convenience... I paid it!

Any draft restrictions on crossing the bar or is it just a matter of planning of high tide? I'm drawing 6 feet.

Hi Mark! There is a bar with a narrow and moving channel here that is approx 12ft deep at a +6ft tide There is no authority here that issues anything that might be construed as an official draft restriction. That said there absolutely is a draft restriction set by the tide and where you happen to be on any particular wave. While I was there a 39ft Moody was lost on this bar. Choosing poorly here can be very costly.

@@sailingfrogsleap I heard about the Moody. Sounds like Mazatlan is eating up some boats, too. Meanwhile, I replaced my depth transducer hoping to find something shallower than 80 feet to drop my hook at Catalina!

Nice. Well done. Help an old man dream. Wish my Dad had tech to videolog his sail on a pacific seacreaft Flicka (19ft at water line) from SD to Hawaii. He single handed too sorta, owner was in the V-bearth mostly.

Hi John! I love Pacific Seacraft boats! In fact, if I ever have the chance to own a different boat, it will be a Pacific Seacraft!

If you have entered the inlets in Florida Atlantic side can be interesting in real waves due to the currents. I draw 5 foot but it is the sea state that determines go/no go

Sad to see....but why would a captain chance running a 6' bar with in a beautiful yacht with 6.5' draft???

Thanks for the comment David! Yeah... Many do though... I believe this was his fourth time through... That probably led to some degree of confidence
