2023 Writers' Trust Awards

At the 2023 #WTAwards, seven literary awards were presented and more than $322,000 was given to Canadian writers. Prizes were given for best books of the year for fiction and nonfiction, an outstanding debut by an LGBTQ2S+ emerging writer, and career achievement across genres.

◢ Kai Thomas received the $60,000 Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize for In the Upper Country
◢ Anuja Varghese was awarded the $10,000 Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBTQ2S+ Emerging Writers for Chrysalis
◢ Christina Sharpe was awarded the $75,000 Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction for Ordinary Notes
◢ Laisha Rosnau won the $60,000 Latner Griffin Writers’ Trust Poetry Prize
◢ Helen Humphreys won the $25,000 Matt Cohen Award
◢ Kyo Maclear won the $25,000 Vicky Metcalf Award for Literature for Young People
◢ Anosh Irani won the $25,000 Writers’ Trust Engel Findley Award
