The trend in musky fishing is totally bigger bigger bigger lures, well this year I'm going "smaller" all year long as in just 5" shallow raiders, 700 or 500 bucktails, JB rattler, top raider size. No double tens, no six-tailed rubber baits, no double digit length cranks or dive n risers.

Generally, I like a softer rod for lipless cranks that is at least 7’ long. I currently use St Croix’s MojoBass Glass 72MHM for the 1/2 oz size. When using larger lipless of 3/4 oz or more, I tend to go longer. St Croix 710MF or even the 9’ MLM. A long rod with some good bend keeps fish hooked thruout the fight.
