  • to the delight of watching locals who predicted its return
    The waters of the river Zin are seen gushing down a dry riverbed, much to the delight of locals in a video recorded on Friday
    The return of the flood waters are because of heavy rain in mountainous regions several miles away from the arid land
    For centuries the dry area, which is a massive creek bed, has seen the disappearance and return of water in a series of flash floods
    The re-birth of a river after years of drought has been captured on camera in the Negev desert, Israel.
    The waters of the river Zin are seen gushing down a dry riverbed, much to the delight of locals and a highly excitable dog.
    It is thought the return of the flood waters are because of heavy rain in mountainous regions several miles away from the arid land.
    The landscape is dramatic in places with plunging canyons and meandering dusty paths, which cause small waterfalls and the water to ride over the bumpy, dusty terrain.
    The wave is impressive considering it is caused by rainfall miles away, and it does not take long for a convincing stream that gushes down holes in the rock to appear, strengthening all the time.
    The appearance of the river is highly unpredictable and it has been years since enough rainfall has caused a flash flood in the desert, experts said.

    I witnessed similar events in Arizona in the late 1970's. Severe rain storms in N. Arizona would create water "snakes" that flowed down the dry river beds. We would stop at a bridge, see it coming like in the video, then wait for a few minutes until the "tail" arrived. As it went down stream the dry bed absorbed the water.

      @Te G NOT TRUE - Flash floods have been common in the region since biblical times, and the modern flooding was a result of heavy rain in mountainous regions several miles away from the arid land. Lack of sufficient rainfall due to drought meant that this was the first time in years that water flowed through the River Zin, which starts in the Ramon Crater, located around 52 miles (85 kilometers) south of the city of Beersheba and winds it way through the Plain of Sodom before ending 75 miles (120 km) to the northeast at the Dead Sea. The Ramon Crater is an ancient geological formation that is the world’s largest makhtesh-a geological landform unique to the Negev region that is created not by meteor impact or volcanic eruption, but by erosion.

      I was just initially curious as to the source of it. I know they said rain water etc., just wondered how long it stayed and whether it was a spring that dried up due to no rain or just huge run off etc., no big deal. no religious angle in the slightest.

    This is video of a flash flood as it is called in Arizona. It is a common occurrence during our summer Monsoon season. Heavy rainfall miles up stream create run off that is too much for the ground to absorb and a flash flood is the results. I did not realize that Israel had these floods too. Of course it only stands to reason.It's always a fun phenomenon to watch.

    The smart move would be to select the right spot, schockrete a wide area and build a small dam. let 10%-15% of the water flow on, and hold back the rest, cover it over, and use it to irrigate, and also improve the land around the river bank.

    • @waylo0820
      @waylo0820 8 лет назад

      first of all you need a good government who isn't going to murder you or demand all profit. plus you need supplies and money and a good scientist and an architect. so yeah that sounds like the right idea, just got way too many problems to spend money on a dam first

    • @FMHammyJ
      @FMHammyJ 8 лет назад

      Israel has enough, money, expertise and supplies to do this and I'm sure they have already.....India and many countries in Africa are now building catchment dams to catch monsoon and seasonal rains....they usually use the water directly, or to recharge their aquifiers.....

      @FMHammyJ 8 лет назад +1
