    Loved seeing the JD 40!!! I spent many summers back in my youth. Even did a 40 acre barley field that had laid down flat from rain, all one direction 10' at a time😂

    The smaller head comment 👍🏻my father was a farm they always ran smaller heads so they could move down the rd with the head attached saves a lot of time when u have a bunch of smaller fields close together and not alot of help

      I agree, and I can get through field openings without taking it off. Feeds nice too in tough straw and soybean conditions.

      if you’re amazed by that you should look up the modern stuff. Such as the claas Lexion 8900 and John Deere X9 1100

    As always great video! Dad had a JD45. It was involved in my first farming accident at the age of 4. I fell off the platform & sliced my right leg open from ankle to groin. The muscles came off the bone. I got 135 stitches from the deal & a bum knee.

    Have a couple of 40s. Very low serial numbers. Were alot of fun to operate.

      @@Thewaywefarm No sir both of mine are 10' grain platforms.
      Hard to believe a corn cob could go through the feeder house sideways hahahaha.
      The 40 is super rare in our part of Texas and corn heads of that era are non-existent.

      @@matthewheinze1231 Most of the corn around here was chopped for silage or picked as ear corn back in the 60s and 70s. Thanks for watching our channel

      @@Thewaywefarm Ours was all chopped back then. When I was kid there was a little irrigated in the 80-90s that was combined but still now the bulk is chopped.

    We had a jd40, samples were so clean. We did not even clean the seed for the next season. But man I hated that combine. But in the mud with duals and 45 wheels fitted to the rear. We ran where tracks on 45's and 55's were getting stuck.

      Ours is fun to do a few acres with but all day would be tough. They are light machines so I could see why it would float

    Deere engineers would not believe that there could be wheat yields would be double prvailing corn yields!

      That is very true, that field averaged almost 100 bushel per acre this year!

    Did I hear 100 bushel wheat? We usually get 40 on a good year

      We’re disappointed if we don’t get close to 100 bushel. Usually average 85

    they didn't make many of the 40s our neighbor had one the only other one I ever saw they were not popular in our area

    Don't sneak down the road with the head on. We have had deaths in Ireland from it. It's too much of a life changing event. Save yourself the anguish.
