  • Every year, custom harvesters travel the country to cut wheat and other crops for farmers who don’t have the equipment or manpower to do it themselves. In the documentary "Life On The Harvest Run," Tiger Media Network's 2024 summer interns explore the lives of two custom harvesting families from Kansas - the Beforts from Hays and the Froeses from Inman - and the challenges they face each summer.
Directed by John Billinger, Raegan Neufeld, and Ryan Schuckman

20 years ago the day after I graduated high school I left the dairy farm of Pennsylvania and jumped on a plane to Kansas. Couple days later was operating the biggest JD combine at that time for Larry’s crew of Froese Brothers. Worked for this great family for 2 harvest runs! Wonderful experience! Thanks for the memories!

@jeffrey8972, that was me 15 years ago also with Froese Brothers, and I couldn't agree more about the great experience and memories! What part of PA are you from? I'm near Reading.

Thanks for the memories. As a farm gal growing up in Kansas in the 50’s and leaving the state in the ‘80’s was hard. Wheat harvests w/my Dad and the crew he hired was my favorite time of year. There’s so many ways to be involved in the wheat harvesting. Many years I worked for Kansas Grain and Feed Dealers Assn (now Kansas Grain Dealers Assn) in Hutchinson. Every year, tho not there in person, this gal follows the wheat harvesting thru Kansas reports. It’s in the DNA for me.

Great video and it interesting to learn more about the farmers and farming. I've been driving semi trucks for 2 custom harvesting companies from Manitoba Canada then we leave for Saskatchewan and do the harvest run there for 3 months and continued that for 5 years. Maybe some day I'll be at it again. But all in all.. I loved it. Happy harvesting.

National Geographic August 1972 has an article “North with the Wheat Cutters”. I stumbled on this article when in High School and have been mesmerized by the custom harvest business ever since. I did work at an equipment dealership for awhile and did get to work on combines.

I remember the long days of wheat harvest when I was a kid. From Yuma, Arizona all the way to Grand Forks, North Dakota. Wouldn't trade those memories for all the gold in the world.

Farming is a hard life, a ramble, trust in Jesus that it will come up and its gets to Harvest. I lived it for 19 years, then went off to college and graduated. My hat off to all the farmers that grow our food. God bless you all there. 🙏❤️. Great video, enjoyed very much. 👍👍
