    In case it helps anyone, I've just been able to fix the hum problem on my C1. The hum is caused by a failure of the casing to electrically connect to the earth pin in the cable. In my case this was caused by the use of painted screws on the inside.
    Step1 - disassemble the body (see ruclips.net/video/rr9-LQugXyE/видео.html),
    Step2 - remove the grille from the black painted internal frame by unscrewing the 4 mount screws
    Step3 - scrape the paint off both sides of an area where the grille and frame meet.
    Step4 - reassemble.
    5 minutes and I've got a hum free mic.

    • @davidgreen9647
      @davidgreen9647 4 года назад

      @@franciscorevuelta491 Would do if I could, but I don't think I can, as I'm not the channel owner. If you follow the disassembly video I linked to you'll get the mic open easily, its very simple. You'll see inside are in a lower part frame that holds the circuit board, and the grille is held on to the top of that frame very obviously with 4 set screws. You can't miss them. You just need to get a metal to metal contact between the frame and the grill cover. Both are painted, which is the problem. Add painted screws and you've got no earth connection to the grille.

    There is no product from ANY company I know of that doesn't have their share of lemons. Or users not knowing how to use products correctly. Honestly, you can find a plethora of great reviews for this mic. You can hear great recordings on large scale also. So, when you get a bad product, you don't keep using it, you send it back. If you get more than one, you consider changing brands, or researching what you may be doing wrong. These are GREAT mics at the price, but yes, you can get a bad one. In this price range, that is just the norm. I have seen many ppl have major issues with Behringer products. I, on the other hand, have some awesome Behringer products that have lasted for a very long time, are still working great and do the job VERY well. It is luck of the draw, I am always willing to take the chance and if I get the lemon, I simply send it back. Nature of the beast.

    Leave it plugged in and allow to warm up and I bet it will go...
    I store my Rode mics in the airing cupboard because of this..

      @@beatwavs Hi. Of course you may have a faulty product, but that seems unlikely to me, if you do, it'll be covered by warranty. Also you may find you may need a more powerful phantom power source? My Rode NT2 refuses to work with a friends new scarlet interface, but it works perfectly on my Behringer X32 digi mixer which I've had for seven years? (never failed once and Midas pre amps sound incredible! I have 2, one for studio one for gigging.) But, what I would do is to plug it in and leave it overnight. also try wrapping the grill in a bit of loo roll at the same time... If it's continuous damp, that should help in my theoretical head!? (don't think that's quite as silly an idea as injecting bleach or similar but shouldn't kill you at least!) If after all that it still does it, then I'd return it for a replacement. Don't give up on the brand or model just because you found one that, may have been dropped or has a faulty cap etc; If others have great results from the same model no reason you shouldn't, or have to pay more! Hope this works for you!

      Béa GB It sounds like you have ta similar issue as me, a poorly manufactured microphone. This particular mic seems to have a high failure rate compared to other Behringer products and other similar mics. If it were damp/moisture/condensation etc.it would clear up itself by just being left alone in any dry environment and wouldn’t be persistent. From what you are describing, it does sound like a capacitor issue. BTW. Simply powering a condenser will not get rid of any moisture/damp related issues, in fact, this could make it worse as the damp may damage the circuitry when the mic is powered. Just send it back and get your money back. If you are looking for a cheap alternative take a look at the Neewer NW11. This is a short pencil with three heads for different polar pattern, there’s also a couple of other manufacturers that rebrand this mic. Cheers, Dave.

    Thanks for the heads up on the high probability of getting a bad C-1. The overall review for this mic on Amazon is 4 stars, but it seems that too many customers are experiencing the noise that is demonstrated on your vid. Do you plan on returning this for a refund? I would! I have several large diaphragm condensers in this price range that I am pleased with. You can pick up MXL mics on sale through Musicians Friend that sound quite good at a similar price point. Hi. Yes, a real letdown for Behringer. I'm a huge fan of Behringer as they usually make excellent audio kit for very competitive prices. I've got a 202HD USB interface and it's brilliant. It can actually be used as a stand alone phantom power pre-amp, I'll be doing a video about that particular function soon as I've not seen anyone do it on RUclips before. If you checkout this video I cover the function briefly when testing a number of cheap power/preamps ruclips.net/video/XWA0BeTrmJU/видео.html As for Oktava. I'm a music producer by trade and in the early 90s I got a pair of Oktava condensers for stereo overheads for kits. At the time the bodies were quite bulky and a bit rough but with an amazing capsule and sound. I seen some a few years back and the construction is way better now and still sound fantastic and very competitively priced. Cheers, dave.

      Hi, Richie. I appreciate that many people have this mic and are fine with it. However, it’s very clear reading the reviews that this particular microphone definitely has manufacturing issues. Unlike some of the people in the comments here, I don’t care how cheap something is, you should never have low expectations based on price or give a pass and make excuses for anything that’s problematic just because it’s cheap. Behringer themselves have an excellent cheap mic in the XM8500 dynamic microphone, which I’ve never seen a bad review of and I’ve had about 5 of them and they’ve all been great. This is why my opinion of this mic is to give it a miss, as it’s basically Russian roulette as to whether you get a good one or not. I also don’t understand all those people in the comments saying not to bitch about it and just send it back. If some people have got the time to be screwing about and wasting their time and efforts sending stuff back to Amazon, then fair enough. But as far as I’m concerned it’s simply better to avoid something that has a reputation for being problematic. Cheers, Dave.

Cut the bass EQ by a few dB at around 100Hz (approx.) Sadly from my basic tests the C1 is not clean sounding, my voice sounds muddy compared to the AKG C3000. Buzz and crackle happens on two different APEX microphones so it is isolated to the cable but both cables check-out identically when tested with meters and oscilloscope. And the connectors also check-out on both cables. An unexplained situation. I think there may be damage somewhere in the cable run but haven't been able to isolate it.

    Very generally speaking, hum or buzz is most often an open ground (earth). A crackle is most often a bad connection. I just bought a new Bosch hammer drill that didn't work at all. Any well reputed product can have some bad examples. Buy from a reputable company and return it. I got my new drill from Amazon, replaced the next day. If you are at the bottom price point, be more careful.

    I've owned this mic since 2017 (almost 2 bloody years) and I can definitely say this is the exact noises I am familiar with on a bad day, as well as the quality.
    I've only used it for voice calls with my friends, but thankfully Discord has input sensitivity so my friends won't hear it hum on.
    I haven't looked into buying a new mic for a long time since I was fine and wanted an entry condenser mic (very bad entry though), just for goofing off. But now I think it's time to move on.
    Over all a definite hit or miss and spot on video describing the poorly manufactured mic.

      @@DavidHarry I'll keep you posted on my experience with my C1 mic. So far, so good. They seem like a good mic for using on vocals when you don't want the vocals to collide with other instruments in the mid bass (lower mids) range. They can help reduce boominess in that frequency range. They give a clear sound because of the little bump on the highs. They also can be kind of like a blank canvass for EQ (because they sound kind of neutral, without EQ.) You make a good point about quality control. That can be a factor with less expensive, Chinese made equipment (especially.) This being said, most of the things that I've bought, that are Chinese made, are decent quality, and I've enjoyed using these products. Thanks for your review, David.

      Hi, Stephen. I appreciate that a lot of people don't like this video because they have one that's working fine. However, just like me, you've found that yours is poorly manufactured. As far as I'm concerned, there are far too many of this particular microphone that suffer from bad manufacturing. Given that the chances of buying a bad version of this microphone are a lot higher than most other microphones, even other models by Behringer. I really don't see why people would want to risk buying something that has a fairly high probability of being faulty. Even those people saying that you can just send it back, are missing the point. I don't care how much something costs, the consumer should expect something that works and they shouldn't have to go messing about with the hassle of swaps and refunds. Cheers, Dave.

    I bought this mic this week. Immediately struck by very low volume output. Many people on t'internet reporting same. Hiking up the gain and the loud hiss/noise becomes apparent.
    I looked inside. It seems mostly well made. Jamicon caps are decent.. circuit board seems well soldered but.. ...the red wire to the condenser is point to point soldered to one of the legs of a mica capacitor and the other leg of that capcitor is point to point soldered to the leg of another mica capacitor. Point to point is fine..desirable even.. but one of these joints was bad/dry/loose/cracxked.. I resoldered it and noise floor slightly improved.. and it occured to me that reflowing a few joints might fix it.. but I sent it back.. it's new.. it should work straight from the box and well.. i might make a mistake reflowing.. I might buy another to satisfy my curiosity.. maybe I'll get a good one.. not sure yet...
    Obviously when I discovered issues I did a search and found this video.. lots of dumb comments underneath it. This mic won't work without phantom power. Twits. The only conclusion is some people must get good ones and some must get bad.

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  3 года назад +1

      Hi. I think mine was basically the same, dry joints, maybe even some capacitor issues. In any event, the issue here is one of consistency in the manufacturing process. I have a Behringer USB audio interface that I’ve been using for about three years. It’s well manufactured and uses nice convertors, I also have a few other bits of Behringer kit, including some dynamic mics that are all great. The problem is that some Behringer products are not made/manufactured as well as others, this C1 mic being an example of something that’s got a track record of being inconsistent in its manufacturing process. The price of this mic should be an indicator. It is very cheap for the type of technology it is, in fact, there’s probably no other condenser around its price that’s as substantial. So, given the price for such technology, it’s not surprising that there maybe some issues with components, materials or the manufacturing process, which are all compromised when driving costs too low to maintain the lowest selling price. Not that I need to explain that to you as you clearly understand these issues and also the point to this video. Thank you for your input and time, it’s refreshing to see a comment by someone who isn’t a total moron who hasn’t got a clue about what they are talking about, which unfortunately accounts for the huge majority of the responses to this video. Cheers, Dave 👍

    I have one, and my issues with it are the noise floor, muddiness, and occasional low end distortion. In post EQ, it's necessary to crank the mud _at least_ -9dB, and give it about a 25 dB rolloff at a very wide Q. Am unsure if this is normal for some, but it sure is for me. Wished I'd listened to my Sweetwater sales rep and got the SM58 instead. Anyway, it's what I have, so I'll go ahead and keep using it.
