You know what I love about all the Bates videos? There is no pettiness (which seems like society is thriving on right now), no foul language, everyone lives Christlike. Doesn't mean everyone is perfect and that occasionally there isn't a disagreement but everyone seems to genuinely love each other. Mom and dad did a great job of raising 19 children. I couldn't do it.
I would recommend putting a few spoonfuls in a separate bowl for him to eat so you can save the rest for another meal.
Parents has been feeding their babies like for years
And only recently have we discovered how much saliva is actually going back into the container. It ends up being 50% spit. This is why we’re also not supposed double dip. There’s been studies done on this.
I totally understand what you're saying! However, I think this hungry guy ended up eating all of his food! There's no playing around with this little cutie! 🥰

I had my kids in the 60’s and 70’s so I know things have changed. We started them out on rice cereal and introduced one food at a time to watch for allergies. Tips about not feeding from original container are correct. If you get saliva in the original container, it contaminates. Starts digesting the food. Sounds weird but think about it.
My grandson is 4.5 months old and lve just bought him rice cereal because he'll be starting solids in about another months time and my daughter in law wasn't sure what to start with.
Lydia, why not make your own so that you can control what he eats and also, it would be SO MUCH CHEAPER🥰
Thats true and super easy. My daughter was loving so many different veggies and it does not take much time to smash a banana or Stefan the veggies. 😋
I love watching your big family! What an amazing family you have! My scores are like Kelly Jo’s! I always said I got my low bowling scores and my high golf scores mixed up! Lol
I made all of my grandsons food. His immune system was so strong. Thank god he wasn’t sick until kindergarten.
I used to make my own baby food as well. My kids loved peaches and apple sauce. He does look like he likes it!

Bland cereals first and veggies is what was recommended to me. I think it's a good idea so they get used to the greens (hopefully) first. I did bland cereal then cereal with veggies then plain veggies. I found peas were the most liked green. Then there's the orange ones and I found sweet potato was the favorite with all mine. There's the introducing one a week which I think you mentioned (watch for allergies).
The blog has just started and it’s crazy how many couples there are now to participate in the couples dinner. Lawson and Nathan don’t have to dress up as a couple anymore to try to get in. 🤣

Oh my goodness. He really does well with his first food. Looks like he liked it alot. I’d definitely take a couple spoonfuls out of the container then put it in a tiny bowl so the whole rest of the container doesn’t get watery.

Ryker is just precious. They used to go from milk to cereal that just dissolved into a thick liquid. Then baby food later. I guess the first food baby food is starting them with a spoon earlier. Ryker is so cute and growing way too fast!!! I remember we were all concerned about his small size before he was born. There will be no stopping him now he's had his first taste of "food". Such a cutie!!
Also a note about strawberries. For some reason, babies and young children could develop an allergy to them. My cousin’s daughter developed this. Honey is also a no because there is some sort of enzyme that babies can’t tolerate which will make them extremely ill. Love the conversation that Ryker has with both of you!!! Sooo cute!!

I feel sorry for young parents today. It must be so difficult having so many comments about what and how to care for their baby. Thank goodness social media wasn’t around back in the day😉 Baby Ryker, and my grand babies are all going to be just fine, no matter if they are bottle fed or given baby food from a jar(plastic container) The pressure that is being put on these young parents is unbelievable. Do what is best for you and if need some advice, check with momma Bates or Lydia’s mom, they have raised a lot of kiddos❤️ Good intentioned comments can still hurt others, by causing doubt, anxiety and depression.

I'm sure Grandma Bates has recipes galore for baby food. I made my own froze on freezer trays wrapped them up and when I needed food it was always ready my son didn't like the Berbers food just the fruit so I got a baby mil! And he ate what we ate .

Try not to give him sweet stuff, first, always start with a vegetable like mash potato, then every so often add a new vegetable to it add some gravy and make it into a mash sweet things should be a treat
He is doing wonderful ! Take the food out of the container use that so he doesn't contaminate the rest. Prop little blankets on his sides then he will sit up.

Great video just be sure to pour his food into a bowl and don't feed him out of the containers. His saliva can cause bacteria to grow in the leftover food and make him sick. Same with leftovers from a restaurant for yourself.

My doctor said you can feed them veggies for the first year and they will still prefer sweets when you introduce it...🤷🏼♀️Not sure if there's a right way to do it,that's just what she said....
When l had my daughter everyone had something to say. They all knew what was best. There were opinions on everything from holding her to the amount of hours she should sleep. It went on for years.
Lydia and Trace you do whatever you want. You cant go wrong. I am sure you did the reseach on the baby food.

So simple to make baby food. Freeze it in ice cube trays and then just pop one out when you need it😊
Only suggestion. Take the food out of the container and feed him from that. This way you don’t contaminate the entire batch and have to throw it all out… such a cutie ❤️

He is the only one eating that food so it shouldn’t matter. I always fed my daughter out of the container and she is healthy and was hardly sick. Lydia is just fine doing what she’s doing.
😅 I was going to say the same thing. I was told years ago, that the saliva breaks down the food. Place a little in a bowl and feed from that. You can always give more. As long as you don't put the spoon he was eating from in the container, you can save what he doesn't eat for the next meal. I love seeing their faces when they try new foods. He's so stinkin' cute.

You brought back some great memories for me with this vlog. In 1980 my parents bought the whole family bowling balls for Christmas and every Sunday was bowling day. My parents have passed away, but what a smile you brought to my face. Yes, Trace, family is everything. Life goes quickly. Keep making those beautiful memories. And thank you for taking us along.❤

Ryker is the cutest ever. You are both such awesome parents. Seeing Trace always so involved with all he can be as a father makes me see so much of his dad in him. Gil is such a beautiful example of how to be a great and fair dad. Ryker always looks at Trace in awe. That expression is priceless. Lydia is a great example of how to love your child and your husband at the same. The two of you awesome parents. Never doubt yourselves. There's always going to be questions you ask yourselves as parents. With God on your sides, you've got this!

Lydia you are a Wonderful, Loving and might I add a beautiful mommy. I've noticed a lot of comments on how you fed Your and Trace's baby. No matter what you do, someone is going to critique your parenting. Take each comment with a grain of salt and use what you wish and disregard the rest. The point I'm trying to make is don't allow well-meaning comments to make you sad or get you discouraged. Your baby is a healthy, happy and vibrant little boy so you must be doing something right. You do whatever is right for your family.

My kids first food was banana flakes that were mixed with nursery water. My grandkids were started on avocado.
The faces they made with those first bites were hilarious.

You probably should’ve started with mashed avocado, and then go to vegetables if you give them fruit first they get used to the sweet taste, and they refuse to eat their vegetables.

You can put cling wrap on the tray and when he is done just pull it up easy clean up!!!😀
I recommend throwing the crap in plastic away and peel a banana and mash it. Make your own baby food Lydia. Try it, give Ryker a better chance at his health.

It’s always changing! When I had my first 7 years ago I was told to feed her meat first. But I wasn’t told that again with my other 2
That’s why it’s a struggle for todays parents with all the mixed advice as it’s always changing
This little boy is so adorable and seems to be quite advanced too. I think he's probably exceptionally bright and it seems like he has excellent parents too. I would imagine that having the big support network that the Bates family members provide is most likely aiding in his development too. What a blessed little guy! ♥

Just a suggestion with babies starting food. Only I offer 1 new food per week. If there is an allergy to something you will be able to narrow down quickly what it is. He is growing so fast
When feeding him don't feed from the container always put a small portion in a bowl. Rice cereal start with greens squash carrots. You can also make your own too check that out !ugh cheaper yes its meal planning but much better for Ryker. Remember the baby food in stores has preservatives in it. Just suggesting
I take the food out of the container that I am going to try so not to put the spoon in and out of all of the food as you are, putting slobber basically into all of the food. Also, when it comes to the cereal, it’s better to start with rice then it is to start with the oats as they settle easier on the baby stomach.
Rice cereal help my son at bed time try that as well
When they are 2. They are messy eaters. So get ready to clean up a mess.
Yes vegies first.
One suggestion… try to buy organic or make your own baby food. You will never regret giving your child food that is free from pesticides and preservatives. It’s a lot of work but the reward is so great. Prayers for your sweet family!
Are you all living in Carlins and Evans old house?
My kiddos are 34 and 37. I NEVER bought baby food for them. Made my own and froze portions in old-fashioned ice cube trays. Easy, fast and I never had to worry about preservatives or unnecessary old-fashioned ingredients. Much cheaper as well.
We did avocados, carrots & peas for first foods. All fresh food. Commercial baby food in the US is so unregulated, I could never trust iy
@@normascherffius1085 I did carrots and squash. Pureed bananas. Then we progressed to pureed chicken breasts. Neither of my kids had any allergies. We never had sweets in the house. I knew they would get those at Grandma's house. LOL! They were only allowed sweetened cereal on school breaks. They never finished the box of the kind they chose. Sweets were never something they craved. We didn't eat a lot of processed foods ever. I guess I was a horrible Mom in many folks'breaks eyes!😊
