Man I appreciate your review on this kit. I’m going to be purchasing it and converting to an E-kit. This will give me the look/feel of an acoustic kit but allow me to play in my situation and that is what is most important. Thank you.

My $600 gretsch kit in quality and sound smoked my $5000 Ludwig super classic in sound and quality from the 1970’s.
I’m 100% agree with this guy! I’m a gigging drummer in my 22nd year of professional drumming, been playing since I was 4 years old and practised for 16 years before I started playing professionally.
He’s totally right, $500 kit today is great! what more do you want!

Right??? too many look tward the past for the wrong reasons... now Technique? Style? Sure, I mean if you don't know history you are doomed to repeat it, yeah? - and thus sound redundant or derivative - and you need to stay funky! Thats why Im always looking for Tech and Workflow advancements wherever they may be hiding - you need to work hard, but if you work Smart too you will get a LOT further, ya dig?

Solid video. I've had my eye on an AQX kit for a few months now. I appreciate your open and honest approach to unboxing. You had me chuckle a few times, too. That Shatner impression was pretty good!

You are so correct! Great review! I remember crap chintzy CB 700 sets from the 80's costing 800 bucks or more! Absolute garbage! Lol! I've been researching small sets to fit in the clubs of Portland Oregon and I just can't bring myself to playing a suitcase or cajon style setup. How low do ya have to go to play a damn gig anymore? Lol! These Sonor sets are the professional answer without feeling like your homeless or playing an embarrassing child's toy from Walmart. Dignity and Respect is restored!😊👍

Awesome video and great points throughout. I’m a musician barely picking up my first kit and I have limited space so it is amazing to have such a high quality instrument at a tiny size.
Thank you for dispelling the notion that a small, budget kit cant sound great. Also, your hilarious. Peace

Hi, Connie Kay of the modern jazz quartet played a sonor drum set, it might have been a phonic I’m not sure. It was nice to hear your band play cold duck time from les mc cann Swiss movement album! Those black drums look very nice! Great video!

I have a Sonor force select,( I think its a 7000) 16 bass, 10 and 14 in natural maple. It's about 7 or 8 years old , beautiful sound and looks fantastic for the price. Than you, subscribed

Not yet, we are still arranging our studio and it's taking longer than planned, and we want the sound to be as best as it can be for recordings, and right now, uuuf, that echo is almost deafening. But it will come :) Thanks for passing by!

I have been eyeing this myself. I live in San Diego and I wanted something I could easily set up and play outside. I also have a sonor regular sized kit. Super nice Select force, but it takes up a lot of space and no way I'm lugging it around. I was also eyeing that Tama pancake kit, but I was thinking with this I can also add it into my regular size skit if I ever want. I wish they would've had these when I bought my big kit. I live in an apt, would bought this instead. Any thoughts on whether to get this or wait for Tama'a pancake kit?

Get the Micro and add it to your existing kit!
I recommend Evans Hydraulic heads (I have them on both sides of the toms and the batter heads of the Kick and snare, but am thinking about changing the reso on my kick as well and finding a Sonor Sticker somewhere) tune the small tom and the kick down low AF and split the difference with the floor tom. this setup is STUPID levels of musicality incarnate. (I have Black shells and blue heads, but all of the combos are cool) Match them with Sonor's Jojo Meyer pedal for balance and speedy setup plus low sound practice Cymbals (the ones full of holes) for Shedding and small space indoor coffee/art house type gigs. I have done EXACTLY what you are suggesting and I bought the AQX Stage, AND the above Kit, and in my home studio its set up as one continuous two kick 5 tom -Kit that I easily pull apart for lessons/gigs/busking. The space/difference between the 14 and 22 inch kicks gives me a versatility that you would not believe and lets me explore more styles and concepts than I would be able to otherwise.
Honestly, the Tama Pancake is thin and cruddy/weird sounding, lacks musicality to the point were I wouldn't call this "drumkit" an "instrument" - and there are like 30 better portability options (including a better pancake kit by Groove Drums) and its NOT even as portable as they pretend it is - heck their own Cocktail kit is better in that regard and is far more musical and cool.

If all you care about is portability. get a better sounding (despite being made of plastic it sounds WAY better in person overall) and super Innovative kit that you can transport TOTALLY with one hand/no extra gear and grab yourself a Wizzdrum kit:

even the Pearl Compact Traveller has a better tone:

@@Djimbe Awesome. Thanks! I'll try out those heads out you suggest. I ordered the micro a couple days ago. I was torn between the Jungle and micro after I decided to go with the Sonor, but I already have a 10" tom, figured it'd be nice to have an 8" too and the smaller kick would be more portable, even though 14" seems too small for a kick. We shall see. I better get better at drums. I'm not even very good, but I figure I will practice way more if I don't always have to use the mesh heads and try to be quiet in my apartment. I will let you know how it turns out. Maybe I'll even post a video. Since I already have a 10" tom, I figured days I am in the mood, I can bring the 8" and the 10" or just the 10. Either way, I feel good about my choice so far. I think it'll be much more fun to play than the pancake and now I can set my regular kit up as a 7 piece, if I ever want by adding in the extra floor tom and 8" tom tom. (even though my regular sized kit is a maple blend)

By the way- I already have a set of the quiet cymbals. I have the Ziljian. I use them in my apartment.

@@lisao6928 I'm a New Orleans guy, and as SOON as I put the Hydraulics on the 14" kick it SCREAMED (NYC/Bop) Jazz. some Drum Cubes or a super thin memory Foam pillow later and it gave me ALL of that Second Line thump and NOLA HEAT! So long as you tune it down it should sound fine - mine doesn't even have the Baffle in it r/n because my Director is working on Jazz chops w/it currently and I don't mind (whinge) TOO much. No idea how big your other kick is but when you separate them there will be nothing to compare to, and when they are together you will be glad for the Variance.
On getting better: the most important things are Ergonomics and Stick Control. Master the Hybrid Grip, Moller, Push/Pull, Open/Close, your Fulcrum, etc... spend 30-45 min practicing 1/2/3 stroke rolls and basics/rudiments to avoid developing habits that will destroy/inflame your joints & connective tissues. I can DM you a list of resources to get the basics cleaned up - doesn't matter the music you love to play if you hurt/sideline yourself with often chronic repetitive use injuries from bad mechanics. Feel free to ignore my silly ass if you feel that Im overstepping.
responded here second but you can also just get ping pong paddles, or cheap rubber n wood drum pads for 10-15 bucks and throw them on your toms as a rainy day practice kit! or use cheap mousepads or cut up a goodwill store wetsuit.
      a GREAT Start:
      ruclips.net/video/ojebJUf6-vA/видео.html
Its all about the mastering elements.

@@Djimbe Not overstepping at all. I have mostly been focusing on my foot. That seems most important for music I like. I mostly listen to metal. I don't expected to be able to play that stuff, but some good hard rock would be good. I figured get good solid beats and then worry more about the hands, but maybe that's wrong? I've some lessons with more than one teacher and not one has taught rudiments. Right now, I need to know how to put that kick together. I took it outside and tried to use it. What the heck do you do with that riser thing?! I've been looking for a video on how to put that together.
