Attachment Culture

The dichotomy of the carrot and the stick makes for a poor pedagogy, because when you're always reaching for the carrot and avoiding the stick, there is little awareness or energy left for pursing a skill as an end in itself, and enjoying the journey.

We can engage in both! Which, when you think about it, would seem to be the point-we perform to express ourselves, as a means of engaging with and delighting others.
