Thanks for the review. Have you tried using the PS Align Pro phone application with the MSM phone mount to Polar Align the NOMAD tracker? I am interested to know what your experience has been on that setup.
Hi Kamil. Great review ! Agree with you about the on/off switch - let's see how it performs over time. That looks a great location. Can you please add a link with details please. Thank you.
Nice review, thanks. I love my Nomad, and am blown away with its capabilities. I'm currently using a K&F geared tripod head to facilitate polar alignment, but am considering the MSM wedge as it is less bulky. There are complaints of the altitude/latitude adjustment having too much play, with no true lock. Have you found this to be an issue? Thanks again...
Hi Kamil, thanks for the video :) Noob photographer question... At the end of your video you mention that with the Benro Polaris system, you need to faff with leveling the tripod. Do you not need to also do this with the Nomad? Does the wedge create a level with all those dials?
Great question! And the answer is no actually - contrary to popular belief and intuition you in fact do not need to level an equatorial mount. The only thing that matters is that the axis of rotation is parallel to the axial of rotation of the earth (what polar alignment does). You you can level the entire thing just very roughly (so that it won’t topple over), polar align and you’re good to go!
I have a problem, I have a Sony a7iv and a 20mm 1.8 g lens. I saw in tutorials that they set the exposure time to even 2 or 3 minutes and there are no star trails. I set it to a minute or a minute and 20 seconds and the stars start to blur. I don't know where the problem is. I choose the polar star from the stellarium application, I have a phone mount for MSM.
The laser pointer will piss off other Astro-photographers if you turn it on while they taking their exposures. Also, in some countries it is illegal to use laser pointers in some areas.
THANK YOU for saying this! Laser pointers are a curse for the other astrophotographers around who do timelapses. I had laser pointers ruining hours of timelapse on La Palma, just 3 km away from the European Northern Observatory, where laserpointers are forbidden above 1400m (we were at 2200m). Someone did a seminary for photography of the sky. He used a laserpointer until I pointed out that it is illegal, he is disturbing all photographers around him AND he is disrupting measurements of million-dollar observatories (for example the MAGIC) a few km away... One should always behave in ways not to disturb the sky for other photographers, i.e. no lasers and no white lights.
I capture old photons of the bush, in the middle of African. The closest astrophotographer is hundreds of miles away so the laser is perfect for me. The problem is the user, not the tool.
Yeah, exactly. In a lot of places the laser is fine and very convenient. If you’re an advanced user however and/or in a place like Roque De Lost Muchachos and you know that lasers are a no-go there you can always use the polar scope.
@@kamilkpthanks for “pointing” out the laser restrictions on La Palma as I am planning on going to Roque de Los Muchachos next spring and taking my MSM
Thank you very much for this review, informative and very helpful! 😊
Hi Kamil. Great review. Clear skies!

Thanks for the detailed video. How long can a fully single-charged NOMAD MSM tracker operate?

Sure. It’s here: maps.app.goo.gl/EeYYtCoptUwEocHh6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

Apparently the Vixen DX Polarie U is much better

I have it and I like it. But there is a problem with the camera sliding down when it is tilted too much

Unfortunately no Timeshift functionality any more… that’s why I still prefer the trusty old SA Mini

Too many snowflakes. I use my laser all the time.
Neat.
