I and my family spent many a day at Irving Park. Interesting you mentioned the warming house. It would have been 1958 when I was 10 yrs old, I was entering the warming house and somebody slammed the big heavy steel door to the house. As it happened my hand was on the door frame. I knew it was bad so I went to the attendant door up the hill to the east. I was standing in line and I took off my mitten and revealed my bloody finger tip hanging there. The lady behind me screamed. I never cried till my Mom came to take me across the street to Leila Hospital. I evidently had a good Dr because today you can hardly see the scar and the finger has been just fine.
Other than that incident we spent many many hours at the Park. I remember we had a deadline when ice would freeze enough to go skating. Usually it was by Jan. 1 if not before. Seems like in today's age most lakes don't freeze up till later in Jan.
Oh one other thing...My year younger sister fell through the ice one year. I was able to rescue her luckily.
Fun times many citizens had at that park. I always told myself if I ever became a millionaire I would reopen the park for Skating. Running out of time though. I would play the lotto but I was told that lotto players aren't too good at math.
