- We're back with another repair job.
This spectrum wouldn't boot at all, and once it booted the there was no sound from the speaker.

Just found your channel! Brings back memories of my ZX which went missing in the late 90's. I still have my C64 which I'm going to fire up right now and load pitfall on the tapedeck, fingers crossed it works!

I have a question since I only recently got in ZX Spectrum repair...partly thanks to your channel!
Do you think it is wise to check all the RAM chips of a non working board on an other that works , OR is there a chance that a bad RAM can kill the rest of the RAMS on the working board?
Anything is possible. First check resistance from each power supply to ground. If that are OK then you can have more confidence they don't damage other chips

Is it worth swapping out the lower RAM 4116 chips for 4164 chips, considering they don't use various power sources?
You can do that but you need to some some pin bending which isn't too pretty
Where did you get that heat sink from? As the ones I get from CPC are not the full length of the ULA. Thanks.

How about adding a shunt diode for reverse polarity protection over the barrel connector?
I've never considered it or seen anybody do it, it could be possible, I'd have to study reverse polarity diodes to suss it out
@@HappyLittleDiodes I put some 1A rectifier diode for a shunt, and it seems to have worked, at least with a bench power supply.
What can I clean the interface tracks with? I don't have fiber tip pen.
Worth ordering one! Maybe a pencil eraser but start gentle and be careful
