You've gotta realize, this was done before the show aired...perhaps before the show even filmed. This was one of the first things they did when they were hired. They might have literally told him the name of the show when he got there to do this.

According to an interview with a former Disney Channel star (more specifically Jenna Ortega), those bumpers were shot in batches, so the different actors and actresses would all be in one recording room and they'd all cheer each other on and when one bumper was finished, they'd all have a group hug, so apparently that was pretty sweet and often helped them get through it.
I love how Annaliese even knew she drew three ears. XD Also love Orlando's "MAN! THAT WAS SOME OF MY BEST WORK!"

You know… the solution to this would be to have them practice with the logo in front of the camera for reference then move the logo out and see how well they can trace that spot.
Not everything was seemingly finalized so they had to approximate and it was done along with a bunch of other things.
Or even like give ‘em a big mirror behind the camera with the cut out so they can make sure they’re tracing the shape along their reflection
