I saw Tarja live two days ago. And she was amazing. The sound was great. Tarja and her band did their best. It's an unforgetable feeling when the vibration of her powerfull emotional vocals goes through your body. She is an awesame live singer.
I'm cool about that when the difference between these fine singers great and they still sing together (different generations find common ground through music.) it would be nice if they would tour around the world. and visited the old lady would be Russian! Well done girls made me very pleased and thank you for the video!

I totaly understand what you are saying! Doro had an essential role opening doors to Women in Metal... Even if I am more connected with Tarja's career too (since Nightwish started of course...), Both Ladies deserve all Respect! (I may add that Tarja's work in Nightwish's earlier albuns, like Oceanborn, was also opening doors, by mixing that Power-metal sound Nightwish had by that time with Classical vocals... Later both Tarja's singing style and Nightwish's sound became way more versatile...)
I think that a rock or metal singer can use any possible type of vocals. And it doesn't matter whether it's operatic or not, cause rock means freedom. This music can contain elements that don't seem to be compatible first, but than turn out to be genial. That's what I like about this music. And if a singer puts his or her soul into what they sing, like Tarja and Doro do, it would sound perfect anyway.
@irenikus777 RESPECT. It´s easy to say that when you have a 13 year younger woman. I love Tarja too and i hope that Tarja 13 years from now could be half of what Doro is today in the history of metal. That would be huge.

@samhain1967 Haven't heard that one!. Tarja is an amazing singer, but belting is not one of her strong suits. There are very few female vocalists that can do classical and belt rock or metal songs. Floor Jansen, Akane Liv, Pat Benetar and a few others (I'm sure someone will come up with a big list).
i think it is wrong to compare these two singers, they are both great at what they do, if i had to say the one who sounds better here, i would have to hear a better quality of the song...

All we have to go on here is a power ballad which doesn't prove anything. I've never heard her sing anything heavy, even in Nightwish Marco did all the rock parts. There is a reason for that.

If you wanna see how good Tarja really is go check out her cover of Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer and listen to how she butchers that song. It's more proof that Tarja can't sing rock.
