Watching the first episode of S5, it struck me a lot that for 90% of their screen time, the twins do and say MORE than comedy. They think about how to bring the gronckles to the edge, they know concepts and words outside the knowledge of the others, all this being always themselves, therefore putting some comedy into it. I would have loved if they had been like this in every episode, and in the movies especially, but sadly there are times when they completely ruin them. They are CHAOTIC and FUN, not dumb at all! Btw, back to S5E1, that Ruffnut's line "you're breaking my boars" with boars instead of balls, always get me ahahah

There's actually an episode in Defenders of Berk, in which the twins got smallpox and the side effects of catching it is them being smart. They started becoming Einstein. Heck they started going all British, Newton and nerd sht.
It really sucks how the movies just ruin characters like Ruff and Tuff, the development they get in rtte is great and they can actually be funny and useful but all that gets thrown away for being annoying side characters

The second movie did Ruffnut a little dirty but the third one completely killed her established character and then took a piss at it. She didn't have a plan, she didn't consider whether she was followed and Hiccup and Astrid had to talk to her like a literal 5 year old that's on drugs because that's how much her intelligence level dropped. I have a theory that lots of the time, Ruffnut just acts dumb or irresponsible to make Tuffnut not feel bad, because Ruffnut has a lot of big brain moments and she's proven to have a slightly higher vocabulary than her brother. Proof of her acting dumb is when she had her giant big brain moment in the episode at 3:02
That makes sense. It’s been shown that the two are inseparable, so it’s understandable that she’ll dumb herself down and be on the same mental wavelength as Tuffnutt to not make him feel bad/left out. Plus, it’s probably more fun sharing a brain cell with her brother, and just being a chaotic menace.
Ruffnut is actually pretty smart and a good fighter. She’s also really funny and a loyal friend to the Riders ( Probably Astrid the most cause girls LOL). I also think she’s a loving and caring person towards her brother Tuffnut and is willing to do anything to protect him. Plus she’s actually kinda cute.
The scene where she figures out Gruffnut is pretending to be Tuffnut, and the twins work together to defeat him, is still one of the scenes I remember most from the whole show. I love the moments when the twins get to be badass.
RTTE really made me love Ruffnut. I appreciate the "Ruffnut is smarter/badass than everyone thinks counter" 😂 because she truly IS underappreciated. When she told Astrid off in S2, it was such an important moment for both of them. I also loved when she got the key in S2- one of the funniest moments for me! And when she screwed with Viggo- I literally lost my mind. A literal queen lol

The difference of character between RTTE and HW is staggering. In RTTE, Ruffnut is constantly shown to actually be fairly smart, able to think about the future of her actions(Wingnut) and generally able to think (stealing the guard key and telling Astrid straight in her face that she's being mean to everyone thinking she's better than them). Meanwhile in HW, she's played as THE dumb character, that doesn't have a plan except for "if I annoy them enough they might let me go", not even concidering the possibility that they can kill her for it. She also doesn't think that talking about everyone moving to New Berk would end up a bad idea, and that Grimmel could be using her to find them. RTTE Ruffnut would at least have a slight bit of reason in her, like when Tuffnut and Astrid were the only ones at Dragon's Edge and she was captured, she didn't tell the enemy a thing. Hell, she was bluffing that there were way more riders there to give them some time!

This is why I love the Race to the Edge series. It actually makes the Dragon Riders into amazing character. They all have really enjoyable and unique personalities, they all play a role in the episodes, they all have proven to be competent various times, and specifically, the twins are actually REALLY FUNNY.
I always find it so crazy how different the voice actors are. I didn’t even realise they were different voice actors until a few years ago. They just happened to cast such perfect voice actors each time that I didn’t realise! They both fit her character. Thanks so much for this video btw! So awesome to see Ruffnut get some much appreciated love!

I'm kind of upset that Ruff accidentally led Grimmel to New Berk. The Ruffnut I know would cleverly confuse Grimmel by hiding in the clouds or behind rocks.
Ruffnut was always my favorite (next to Snotlout), shes so underappreciated and she and Tuffnut bring that unpredictable resourcefulness the team needed to feel complete and I love them. I do hate how the movies dumbed everyone in the team down except Hiccup and Astrid (because of course the main pair), but I take them as different universes.
RTTE is an entire masterpiece by itself, the amount if times I’ve rewatched for as many reasons is too many. Hiccstrid will always be my favorites! So sad the franchise ended

I love it in the third movie when she went out of her way to annoy the guy. Yeah, it backfired, but for that moment, she knew exactly what she was doing XD

RTTE really made me love Ruffnut. I appreciate the "Ruffnut is smarter/badass than everyone thinks counter" 😂 because she truly IS underappreciated. When she told Astrid off in S2, it was such an important moment for both of them. I also loved when she got the key in S2- one of the funniest moments for me! And when she screwed with Viggo- I literally lost my mind. A literal queen lol

The difference of character between RTTE and HW is staggering. In RTTE, Ruffnut is constantly shown to actually be fairly smart, able to think about the future of her actions(Wingnut) and generally able to think (stealing the guard key and telling Astrid straight in her face that she's being mean to everyone thinking she's better than them).
Meanwhile in HW, she's played as THE dumb character, that doesn't have a plan except for "if I annoy them enough they might let me go", not even concidering the possibility that they can kill her for it. She also doesn't think that talking about everyone moving to New Berk would end up a bad idea, and that Grimmel could be using her to find them. RTTE Ruffnut would at least have a slight bit of reason in her, like when Tuffnut and Astrid were the only ones at Dragon's Edge and she was captured, she didn't tell the enemy a thing. Hell, she was bluffing that there were way more riders there to give them some time!

This is why I love the Race to the Edge series. It actually makes the Dragon Riders into amazing character. They all have really enjoyable and unique personalities, they all play a role in the episodes, they all have proven to be competent various times, and specifically, the twins are actually REALLY FUNNY.
I always find it so crazy how different the voice actors are. I didn’t even realise they were different voice actors until a few years ago. They just happened to cast such perfect voice actors each time that I didn’t realise! They both fit her character.

Ruffnut was always my favorite (next to Snotlout), shes so underappreciated and she and Tuffnut bring that unpredictable resourcefulness the team needed to feel complete and I love them. I do hate how the movies dumbed everyone in the team down except Hiccup and Astrid (because of course the main pair), but I take them as different universes.
