Rick Dempsey is beloved too. Good to see you, Rick.
Masn legend
He’s my 4th cousin lol
No baseball player has ever meant more to the fans of a city. You keep hearing how New York named a candy bar after Reggie Jackson but Marylanders named their children after Brooks. In a day and age where meeting your heroes often leads to disappointment, Brooks was a hero that never ever let you down.
I heard stories from multiple people of brook teaching kids around Baltimore the game. Legendary player and human.
Hey Rick, you said Hi to me and my family, at Camden Yards, one evening, Thank you.
We will miss Brooks. I love Brooksey. We moved out of Baltimore, years ago, but we all remained Orioles fans. As I set here with my Orioles hat on.
Wow haven’t seen Rick for years. When did we all get old?
2027
Brooks came to a new housing development for an autograph signing event and my older brother wanted Brooks' autograph but had to work so he asked me to go in his place. I was only too happy to do so since I thought Brooks was great. I had just bought a new VHS camcorder and I thought it would be great to have Brooks say a few words for the camera. Well when I got there I was a little hesitant about asking him to do it but he thought it was a great idea. I almost fell over when Brooks proceeded to do a full-blown routine about how good a friend he was with my brother and how much he was sorry he couldn't come in person but looked forward to seeing him soon. Needless to say, my brother was thrilled. Years later I was a construction superintendent in Baltimore and we were working on the building where the headquarters for Crown Petroleum (whom Brooks was closely tied to) and as I went to get into the elevator there stood Brooks on his way to the Crown headquarters. I said hello Mr. Robinson I guess you don't remember me and to my surprise he looked at me and said, "Sure I remember you, that was the first and only video-taped autograph I ever did." One genuinely nice person, on or off the field.
The Dipper. Rick Dempsey, one of my favorite Orioles. RIP Brooks.
Brooks was an Arkansas boy. The Braves didn't move to Atlanta until 1966. There were no teams in Texas. Just the Cardinals, the Orioles and the Senators were the teams of the south, as least as far as the MLB. It made perfect sense that he was a perfect fit for the Orioles.
Brooks Robinson grew up in Little Rock on the same street where there was a school for the deaf. The story goes that he learned compassion and empathy by interacting with many of the children who walked to and from this school
I loved Brooks Robinson. Great man and player. But don't forget the late 1890's Orioles. Many great HOF players.
Wee willie keeler
Brooks came to Stemmers run school where my mom worked. He gave her an autographed Crown Petroleum poster that i still have displayed in my Man cave. Also Dempsey kept us entertained during rain delays. As i was shaking hands and reminiscing with Boog about Memorial stadium , while standing at Boogs barbecue , he said them were good days. I can't think of another team that i would have rather grown up with.
Oh yeah, the rain delay one-man Broadway performance on the tarp. Different times! Signing off, '73 born dude from Springfield, VA. (In the DC area we had WDCA Ch-20 for those O's games)
I also remember how great Chuck Thompson the voice of the Orioles was--there is no announcer since who has come close to Mr. Thompson
Very nice
I was one of those kids in Baltimore when Brooks lead the O’s.
Mount Rushmore of Baltimore sports… Brooks, Johnny U, Cal and Frank. Sorry Ray.
When the city wasn’t a ghetto
Mr Dempsey was a crazy fellow. One year in Cleveland the game was delayed by rain. Rick took off his spikes went to the batters box, he pretended to hit a ball, ran to first then second, headed towards third base didn’t stop ran for the plate did a head first slide into home plate. Got up jumping around like a little boy. I laughed so hard.
Brooks was the American League equivalent of Willie McCovey. Greatly missed!!
Brooks Robinson was finally up in the big leagues in 1960 for good and he always led the league in getting out of the clubhouse. 1960 was also the year he married the prettiest lady anyone had ever seen, so that tells you why he got out of the clubhouse so fast.
his wife Connie was from my hometown of Windsor, Ontario, Canada and they actually got married there. Brooks met her on an Oriole team flight going to Boston as she was a flight attendant. He kept ordering iced tea from her and told her to ignore all the other players on the flight as they were all married. He ultimately mustered up the courage to ask her out
Brooks' morals and integrity were the exact opposite of espn employees and this talking head.
Theren't enough superlatives or accolades to describe Brooks the human or the best defensive 3rd baseman ever.
I wonder if Brooks knew his homeboy Jerra the owner of the Cowboys
Meanwhile Spencer Strider says keep the fans away from games!
Especially the coloreds
Someone said that if you lived in Baltimore and hadn't shaken Brooks Robinson's hand it was because you didn't try to
Why did brooks wear helmet with shortened peak?
Bill of the helmet bothered his peripheral vision.
Hey Russo...better check your history. Where did the Yankees come from BEFORE moving to NY?
