The thing is... I don't think the tragedy would've been avoided if lwj confessed to him before wwx's, at least not when he started following the dark path. Man had issues
I don't agree: Spoiler the tragedy occured because of the first main villain: he would have found a way to turn the odds against WY with any mean possible. First: Yiling family tragedy > because of the Wen leader Second: golden core tragedy > because of the Core quencher blind beliefs (why is his gratitude at the expense of the blood of no matter who). Third: the Wen remnants > because of the first main villain. Fourth: WY body tragedy (I miss it lol) and 13 years lost tragedy. > because of the first main villain. Moreover, in truth, there wasn't much hatred on the Wens as much as greed among the major sects. The Yellow clan leader literally wanted to replace the Wen leader power (as WY pointed out during the banquet).

The best example would be your Wen remnants point - WY absolutely did NOT have to take them under his wing, but he did because that's just the person that he is. So, I guess we could merge our points?

Yeah, wei wuxian had a *thing* about debts. He would not abandon the wen remnants to die for anything. I also always thought that he really didn't want to "drag" anyone down with him.
I watch this once in aa while because its so good. But i love how in the musical Love isnt enough to make Elle stay just. Even before this it wasnt love that made Elle excel in her classes. It was for herself. It was to prove a point. It was her knowing her worth and wanting more. After all of that and learning that she deserves better, Love isnt enough anymore. For Wei Ying its pretty much the same thing. Lan Zhans love did not change the situation because even if Lan Zhan had confessed at this time he was still reluctant to go against his clan and its teachings. He was still reluctant to leave that life behind. Even if Lan Zhan had confessed i could only see it as him using it to try and persuade Wei Ying to not only stay but to go back to Gusu with him. Something Wei Ying just cannot do. This was bigger than him. Bigger than the both of them. He understood that and no one else seemed to and hes right
