I have struggled with those splotches for so long! I just live with them... Great tip on the plan shadows, I like the idea of turning the shadows on in plan, but like you said it just looks like you took the roof off. I was thinking that I may be able to use this to overlay with a plan view on a sheet, but since its a 3d view, I think some things may end up looking slightly off, but I think its nice to know we have an option to show accurate shadows in plan, awesome!

The answer was so simple! Just set the camera and point down instead of a floor plan!
