    I definitely enjoyed the voice acting. This is quite an interesting project. One of the horns I play on was professionally restored and I got to look around the shop when I got the horn. It's pretty cool seeing work like this being done and I personally prefer having an older horn in great condition over the modern version of the same model.

    Don't let anyone give you crap about using your vise as an anvil -- they're actually made to handle that. As for cleaning up silver plate for your prettying up, caswell.com. The silver plating kit is really easy to work with and gives excellent results. (Gold works nicely, if you lay down silver first. Copper also works well, and you may or may not need to lay down silver first depending on what it is. Don't get the nickel kit though, they don't work very well.)

    I like the way you put that together. I used to have to do work for very underfunded school districts so I would just solder a small piece of cut brass right on the piston and it would hold just fine but you way is much more sturdy. Nicely done. You need to get a Dremel tool for all that fine cutting and shaping of the guide. They saved my hands a great deal of wear and tear.

  • @5naxalotl
    @5naxalotl 6 лет назад +1

    nice job. i think you made extra work for yourself attaching the piece before you dud most of the filing
    i have a bunch of bent instruments that are not worth professional work. i also have metal-work enthusiasm but extreme indecisiveness, so these videos and your gung-ho attitude are very inspiring

    I know you have cleaned instruments with ''Silvo'' before, but is another method for silver plated instuments! Place the instrument in a container (Good luck with that tuba!), on top of a sheet of aluminium foil. Fill the container with warm water (Not too hot, of course.), and add baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) and table salt (Sodium Chloride). It should produce a chemical reaction, which releases the sulfer from the silver making it shine again! Apparently it will stink of sulfer though... There are plenty of video's of people doing this to instruments, silverware and precious wedding rings, so see for yourself! I am planning to do it myself with an alto-horn/tenor-horn (Alto for me, greetings from the Netherlands here! :D) which is now purple/black. I would like to see the results of it on that tuba, and it should prevent you from a lot of scrubbing! Again, greetings from a young viewer in The Netherlands! Keep up the good work!

    That bit of engineering was painful to watch. A model shop or Mitre 10 would have provided some small dimention brass stock so all or most of the filing could be avoided. Will you be using the aliminium foil and washing soda method of removing those acres of tarnish as a one off? Like the postmodern Jukebox say on youtube, 'its all about the bass'
