My late dad and I would lose a huge fish, and he never cursed, never got upset and never blamed me. He would just start rigging back up and say. "That fish was fighting for his life and he won". My dad is still the best angler I have ever known. I sure miss him but he gifted me with the best lessons ever.
I'm envious of the kind of father/son relationship you had. Sounds like a great dad, and it is especially welcome to hear about this kind of parent among the absolute garbage dump of dads out there. A great legacy to leave behind: treasured memories from the son.
MY WIFE said to me one day i will never go fishing again (her x was a waste of space and moaned every time something went wrong) i said please try fishing with me and she said ok we had 11 wonderful years of fishing before she passed away from cancer aged 45 and i know she loved it as she would sit all night fishing as well as daytime we caught fish that only went to around 20 lb but we caught a lot of them and i had a partner as lovely as her that that loved fishing and passed away aged 37 from a heart attack they both kissed the bigger fish they caught and you cant get better than that
Great, and that's how we should all be under all circumstances. There is never any point in getting upset over anything, it just demonstrates a lack of maturity and in general a lack of virtue. It's something to work towards...
that's champion angler attitude and never mind the fishing... getting angry at sea is just a bad idea, in general. the ocean is our gracious host, and the moment you stop respecting her, you're going to find yourself in the shit.

Huge respect for not taking the ego hit on the boat when you guys needed to call Riley in. I work in software engineering so unrelated to commercial fishing completely, but I know a lot of Jr. guys who would not have taken it well when we need to take them off a project and you just took it with great dignity. Love the channel for that exact kind of attitude.
Amazing fishing documentary. I was rooting for you guys the whole way and crushed when you lost the fish. This is why I love fishing! When you don't get the fish, it often makes a good story. When you do get the fish, it makes a GREAT story.
The storytelling and editing on this one is 💯 !!! Thanks for bringing us along for this sick adventure ! The stoke gets me going every time !! PS: Definitely the best video I've watched that mixes entertainment and education. The animation on pinwheeling was gold !
I'm glad it got away. These magnificent creatures have been severely over-fished for many decades and are suffering considerable population depletion in many areas. So when one wins the fight I say good on it.
@simonmiller5118 you're hilariously misinformed. You should stop reading or watching misinformation and wake up. The mid-atlantic bluefin stock are an epic example of fishery recovery and at amazing stock levels.
Well I don't know about that bro wicked tuna gets thiers alot of the time & you can tell those boys there don't have the experience like on the television show just saying
Why don't you take the rod out of the holder when it's doing death circles? When we fish Bluefin out of San Diego, there's a general rule that you fight the fish with rod under arm when it gets close so you can maneuver and prevent issues like the rod breaking or line snagging the motor/rudder.
I don't know how big the Bluefins in San Diego are, but if this one was around 800 pounds like estimated you are not holding this rod with bare strength. This fish is waaay stronger than a human being and would just drag you into the ocean
@@leodavinci9682if you could even hang onto it long enough for that to happen it would either slip out of your hands or take your fingers with it that mf was shark sized lol
@@leodavinci9682 Fishing reels have a drag mechanism that limits the tension on the line by letting line out. A whale could pull on the line and you would never be pulled in because of the drag.
That tuna had me goin for my gaff, bro he did not wanna die. That’s what we would all be like if we got hooked. My dad was a commercial fisherman and caught a 844 lb bluefin.

Tough day! You guys really gave your all. Great video. Skills learned this time will pay off in the future. Long patience is needed, big fish like that will not easily give up. Everyone is so excited to catch that fish right away but I believe you will be able to get her on your boat If you are not in a hurry. Hope there will be a second time next time. Deuteronomy 28, John 3:16

Horribly wrong to me means someone lost a finger or two, or got stuck with a harpoon. On this day the fish won and that's why fishing is a challenge, you can learn from your mistakes. I spent some winter nights learning and practicing my knot tying after having a knot pull off the hook leaving me a pigtail line from a really nice doormat flounder during the summer that got away. Make your adjustments and you'll get em next time.
Awesome story man i caught first yellow on spinning gear on jig van stall reel st croix rod took 2 hour fight friend throwing up while reeling almost lost fish but i love those awesome stories...just like bringing knife to a gun fight
Question: The line is tight. What if there was a slider mechanism or such that can be slid down to stun the fish? Not kill it but the mechanism sends an electric signal that stuns it and knocks it out long enough to land it. Especially in the initial time you know you have a keeper tuna.
Can I haven't decided if your the best or worst captain ever.... 😂 You land monsters, but your videos are ALWAYS showing some chaotic mishaps that you somehow prevail through Edit: ALMOST always prevail
Is there a reason why Cam likes to fight the fish on the bow of the boat? We fight fish either on the side or the back of the boat in Australia as the majority of the population own trailer boats with a cabin.
