    Excellent choice for filtration, Jake. I don't have any experience with the FX series, but I do love canisters filters in general. I have 2 of the Fluval 403 canisters for years, and they are are workhorses. 2 heaters is definitely the way to go. I am looking forward to seeing the completed tank. Thanks for posting!

    I really like your choice to use 2 heaters instead of 1. I just had a heater malfunction almost cooking my betta. While doing what I could in attempt to save him( slow water changes with cool water) I Google searched heater malfunction and was shocked by how often ppl experienced entire tank wipe outs. Everyone who had it said the best way to prevent this is going with 2 heaters. All my tanks are 20 gal and under. 3 use hob with sponges n lava rock I smashed up and ALL have various types of air pump DIY filters that use lava rock. I don't have experience with canister filters so I won't comment on that. Definitely looking forward to seeing the end results! Keep up the good work! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!

      Hey Victoria!! I'm sorry to hear about your Betta. I'm hoping having 2 will help prevent that in this tank, as well as keep then entire tank a consistent temperature. I've used lava rock as filter media. Great biological filtration! I enjoy canister filters I like how they are customizable with what you can with media. I also find them easy to maintain. Im getting excited about this tank!! I appreciate you watching!!

    Dear Jake:
    It looks like the animals and plants in this tank are going to be very happy in super-clean water. How long does it take to clean a canister filter? How often must this be done?
    Please advise.
    Thank you for this, detailed and entertaining update on your, terrific set up.
    All my best.
    Sincerely,
    E. J. Brinegar

      I only do some sort of maintenance to my cannister filters about once a month. One I do, I just clean the sponges in used tank water. Occasionally, filter floss may need replaced. I just make sure I don't replace too much media or floss to ensure I keep a healthy population of beneficial bacteria

    It's looking good! Are you planning on going high tech with co2 injection and whatnot?

    • @RaccoonCreekAquatics
      @RaccoonCreekAquatics  5 лет назад +1

      I keep going back and forth between whether or not I want to do co2. Starting out, I'm not using it. I can always add it down the road if I end up adding plants that require it!

      @@RaccoonCreekAquatics Absolutely! I will say this about co2 injection: the only thing I regret about it is not doing it sooner.
