With the snake lure I’d give it a steady retrieve, but give it a couple pauses around cover or target areas, or places a snake might actually stop for a second , but a steady retrieve looks like a good snake swim .

I used this lure and loved it my go to reeling is going to stop a little jerk, and you have the tail moving back-and-forth slowly usually does the job
I had the chance to see a snake crossing a pond before and I noticed it was swimming very slowly in a regular pattern, it didn't stop at all until it reached the bank, then it took off. I'm suggesting the same technique, reel slowly without any sudden changes. I guess if you wanna give it any other action could be ok for something the Bass are not use to see. I agree, wake baits in general do better with a steady retrieve rather than a stop and go.
What’s cool about fish is that most of the time they will bite something unnatural more than natural since fish don’t like invasive species
The Smithwick devilshorse is an old wood top water lure and it brings out the big bass

Back in Tennessee will use baby black snakes and brown snakes and green snakes live they seem to change directions very quickly and when they do is when they strike

I’ve been using a snake lure for a while, and the best way to work it (from my experience) is to slowly reel it and every once in a while jerk it back and forth a little bit.

Steady retrieve for me works. Also get a top water jointed mouse lure and make a Snake VS Mouse video. I'm in Tennessee here small mouth here in the rivers destroy the snake and the mouse here in spring time. I fish them both with a steady retrieve just rotate between fast and slow steady till you find what works and don't fish ponds in the video just like rivers and swamps snakes here eat fish in the ponds maybe that was a problem idk

I’m a new sub and honest I don’t know many lures and I honestly use like mostly catfish bait or a grasshopper if I ever catch any but I never knew that there where snake lures
I've never used that lure, But I've also never seen a snake pause in the water while swimming, they always keep moving
