- As Home Improvement’s Jill Taylor, Patricia Richardson acted as America’s everymom for most of the ‘90s. She brought up three handsome blond boys and dealt with Tim Allen’s guttural grunts, all while keeping up a neighborly relationship with Wilson behind the fence. But while everything was hunky-dory onscreen, off screen things weren’t quite as rosy, with Richardson battling producers and writers she says were more interested in coasting on the show’s success than in breaking new ground.
The A.V. Club talked to Richardson-whose latest movie, Cubby, is on VOD now-about her ride on Home Improvement, with its peaks and valleys, and about why she eventually had to walk away from the whole thing.

One of the best sitcoms ever!!!
This show was always on TV when I was a kid. My dad and grandpa are both contractors so I would hear quotes from this show all day everyday lol that weird uuuuuuohhhhhuuuuuuhhh thing lol

It was always a good show to watch especially if you where feeling down, it was definitely a pick me up . Im actually watching it now as I type this. It’s also to bad Zachary tye Bryant was just arrested for chucking his girlfriend

I wish home improvement was on Netflix or something. I think its on Hulu but unless you’re in the US you can’t get that
You can watch it online on primewire, although I'm not sure in which countries it airs.
I'd emphasis the happiness your show brought, even today over the air stations are broadcast it(laughtv), albeit difficult to hear the sour treatment by the executives.
Though I was under the assumptions not many shows get past three seasons, I heard this from Seth Mcfarlane as he knows fox so well, and I'd agree.
She is right on!
Watching this interview actually opens my eyes to some things
1. A lot of people on the E! THS episode about Home Improvement were FURIOUS for her being the reason for the show's death and, honestly, I now see why she left. Without the writers and without any clout, she was just on a show without seeing her kids being an empty vessel. The one thing that actors will hate are roles that have nothing at the end. She had every right to leave.
2. Home Improvement ended in 1999, meaning that her drama role being offered could have been....The West Wing. I wonder if she was considered for either CJ or Abbey Bartlett in NBC's mind if that was the show. As for the sitcom, it could have been anyone's guess TBH
3. Damn, she looks amazing for almost 70
She was comfortable enough to turn down 15 mil. then she went on to portray a Doctor which was totally not her thing.
I totally agree. She was absolutely right. If the show had gone on with sour writing, nobody would have cared that it ended. This way, it is still popular.
I pray, that someday I will be married to this woman.
