Yeah if you only watched RUclipsrs talk about it that was the impression you got. I just saw it flipping channels and was surprised. It way up in the HD channels so I rarely had a reason to accidentally find it.

The reason G4 closed now is because it was launched on November 16th 2021 and it is closing on November 16th 2022 - the staff were given a month's notice.
I think honestly, many people stopped watching after the 'relaunch special'. Granted people like myself caught it on PlutoTV, it was only for certain shows. It also could be said under 1,000 viewers was because it was only on Comcast for physical TV. Spectrum didn't pick them up, Verizon didn't pick them up. Streaming on Twitch can only take one so far. Plus, they also probably tuned out once word got round that Adam was a crazy person on Twitter, & they didn't want to touch them.
Even when it was on PlutoTV FOR FREE, I went out of my way NOT to watch a single minute of that annoying Woke-tivist Channel. They still advertised for it during the last week. It was funny to see it off-air on Sunday. They ran a Japanese game show in place of G4 programming and after that it's been solid ads. Good riddance to rubbish! It had its day in the sun but it was NEVER a hugely successful channel, not even in its "glory days." The ratings were always poor and Comcast dropped G4 for its regular package many months before G4 Mark 1.1 ceased to exist.
They do have g4 content on peacock - code monkeys. That is still one of the best shows out there, even if it only went two seasons and had zero marketing ability (it wasn’t aimed at children, but adults who grew up with arcades and pre crash of 1983). Before that they would have a few shows on in prime time and the rest of the day was reruns. They had a huge opportunity. The downfall is as much on management as it is Frosk.

I actually re-subscribed after they got rid of Frosk. I checked out some of their newer videos and was quite pleased with what I saw- people talking about GAMES with no politics in sight. Some of the new people I quite enjoyed. I have NO ill will toward them. None. I didn't want G4 to fail - MOST of us didn't. THEY seemed determined, however, to piss us off and push u s away and label us as this or that without having the faintest clue about who we are or why we are here or what we stand for. Sure, they THINK we're all hateful far-right Trump lovers (100% false) - but that's the tragedy of it all. If they'd just had some faith in their fans and EMBRACED them, and remembered - even went back and watched old AOTS and X-Play episodes for guidance and emulated that feeling - and maybe collaborated with some big youtubers like Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, Pewdiepie etc, I have NO doubt that G4 would be doing fine right now. Instead we got...well...what we got. And to be clear, it's no one person's fault. Not even Frosk - though she DID hurl the flaming stick at the tinder pile. She wasn't doing it on her own. She even indicated as much. She was ENCOURAGED to do so. Whoever was running the show was ENCOURAGING that kind of messaging and behavior - and that's the sad problem here: G4 is yet another example of a good thing infiltrated by a few woke weirdos who just HAVE to virtue signal and message until they run it into the ground and ruin for EVERYONE ELSE - fans and employees alike. So no, I DON'T place the blame only on Frosk. Or Adam. The blame lies on the shoulders of whoever was orchestrating all of this and willing it into being. They THOUGHT, as all brainwashed individuals do, that they were doing some greater good for humanity when in fact all they were doing was ruining yet ANOTHER thing people once loved. I have no hate for Adam, Frosk, or any of those DIRECTED to act in these ways. Sure, they could have realized it was a bad idea and pushed back, but they were doing a job. Hiariously enough. The only reason I found out about G4 on television again is because Scott the Woz reruns were on there. Without him, I wouldn't even noticed until know.
Well to be somewhat fair I have DirecTV and I didn't even have G4 in my subscription it wasn't even available at all. So that might have contributed to why the ratings were dead last in my opinion. But there is still plenty of blame to go around on plenty of different parties.

It was the business model, they sought a RUclips\Twitch audience using a TV studio. They should have leaned into the TV aspect. Making themselves valuable as a promotional tool for Comcast's NBC and Universal projects, and other media and game project for a promotional fee. The Old AOTS had a lot of TV and movie people stopping by to promote projects.

If I want an honest review, I'll check out someone like Angry Joe. Even IGN is a bit mercenary. My favorite show on G4 was AOTS. Pop culture, some gaming, celebrity guest hosts (not the streamer host of recent months) technology, etc, all presented in an amusing entertaining manner. It was fun, informative with laughs.
This is definitely going to be discussed in business schools for many, many years. Be a source of thousands of high school reports and college theses for years to come. G4 and Xplay are never going to be able to be revived ever again, this is so bad. Imagine having to hear, "At least we are doing better than G4." or "We're not as bad as G4." for the rest of your life if you worked on the show. Yeah, this is not the end of it, G4s failure will go on longer than anyone thinks.
Based on earlier vids from you guys and other channels, this is not surprising. Though there was some nostalgic hype before the G4 revival, they couldn't compete with what RUclips already provided. And then the Frosk rant killed it beyond any hope.
Even MtvClassic gets more views then what G4 got. MtvClassic averages 7,000+ viewers daily while their expenses are far less then G4 as they own the rights to play music from the record labels.

Frosk's rant is why it failed, though maybe not in the way you think. That rant let every single gamer, the intended audience, know that this new G4TV was the same as the gaming media we've been dealing with for over a decade, the same gaming media that doesn't like video games, hates gamers and twists ever single thing they cover into politics and preaching with their holier than thou attitude. That's why her rant was so catastrophic, might as well have named it Channel IGN or KotakuTV.
The saddest thing about the G4 attempted reboot is that it could have succeeded if it borrowed from the best of the old and the new. They could have brought some old presenters, kept some of the underwear/Maxim model co-host appeal, brought in some modern streaming/gaming personalities that people actually like, and then have some Code Mokeys-esque animated series that actually explores some of the tropes and issues that new G4 wanted to address in a less preachy/hectoring manner. Instead they just wanted to have a mediocre attempt at a nostalgia cash grab while thinking their target demo was an editor at Kotaku. Also; nobody should think hiring a basket-case like Adam Sessler was a good idea. Sad.

Sure, they THINK we're all hateful far-right Trump lovers (100% false) - but that's the tragedy of it all. If they'd just had some faith in their fans and EMBRACED them, and remembered - even went back and watched old AOTS and X-Play episodes for guidance and emulated that feeling - and maybe collaborated with some big youtubers like Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, Pewdiepie etc, I have NO doubt that G4 would be doing fine right now. Instead we got...well...what we got.
And to be clear, it's no one person's fault. Not even Frosk - though she DID hurl the flaming stick at the tinder pile. She wasn't doing it on her own. She even indicated as much. She was ENCOURAGED to do so. Whoever was running the show was ENCOURAGING that kind of messaging and behavior - and that's the sad problem here: G4 is yet another example of a good thing infiltrated by a few woke weirdos who just HAVE to virtue signal and message until they run it into the ground and ruin for EVERYONE ELSE - fans and employees alike. So no, I DON'T place the blame only on Frosk. Or Adam. The blame lies on the shoulders of whoever was orchestrating all of this and willing it into being. They THOUGHT, as all brainwashed individuals do, that they were doing some greater good for humanity when in fact all they were doing was ruining yet ANOTHER thing people once loved.
I have no hate for Adam, Frosk, or any of those DIRECTED to act in these ways. Sure, they could have realized it was a bad idea and pushed back, but they were doing a job. I'm simply very deeply saddened that so many people who COULD have been working on a great channel, having fun producing gaming content, lost their jobs because a few assholes in power wormed their way in and ripped G4 apart from the inside to the point where NOBODY was interested anymore. Imagine being THAT big of an asshole that you are willing to risk an entire network for MESSAGING.

Hiariously enough. The only reason I found out about G4 on television again is because Scott the Woz reruns were on there. Without him, I wouldn't even noticed until know.
Well to be somewhat fair I have DirecTV and I didn't even have G4 in my subscription it wasn't even available at all. So that might have contributed to why the ratings were dead last in my opinion. But there is still plenty of blame to go around on plenty of different parties.

Japanese companies never shit-talk on the viewers. Fans help companies be successful. That Sonic movie and AC/DC Back In Black are prime examples.
If Sega and Paramount told everyone to not watch the Sonic movie if they found Sonic to be ugly (fact: he is), that movie would be another headstone in the graveyard of bad video game movies.
I think it's funny that one person can rip a nasty fart in a crowded sports stadium and affect more lives than G4's relaunch did.

It was the business model, they sought a RUclips\Twitch audience using a TV studio. They should have leaned into the TV aspect. Making themselves valuable as a promotional tool for Comcast's NBC and Universal projects, and other media and game project for a promotional fee. The Old AOTS had a lot of TV and movie people stopping by to promote projects.
I honestly expected them to become a mouthpiece for Nintendo and esports given that Nintendo is coming to Universal.

If I want an honest review, I'll check out someone like Angry Joe. Even IGN is a bit mercenary. My favorite show on G4 was AOTS. Pop culture, some gaming, celebrity guest hosts (not the streamer host of recent months) technology, etc, all presented in an amusing entertaining manner. It was fun, informative with laughs.

Based on earlier vids from you guys and other channels, this is not surprising. Though there was some nostalgic hype before the G4 revival, they couldn't compete with what RUclips already provided. And then the Frosk rant killed it beyond any hope.
Even MtvClassic gets more views then what G4 got. MtvClassic averages 7,000+ viewers daily while their expenses are far less then G4 as they own the rights to play music from the record labels.
I feel sorry for everyone who worked at G4 not Adam Sessler or Frosk. Being terminated and they don't even notify you doesn't feel good.
I didn't even know they were broadcasting on tv. I wrote the channel off when all they did was show Cheaters and Cops.

That rant let every single gamer, the intended audience, know that this new G4TV was the same as the gaming media we've been dealing with for over a decade, the same gaming media that doesn't like video games, hates gamers and twists ever single thing they cover into politics and preaching with their holier than thou attitude. That's why her rant was so catastrophic, might as well have named it Channel IGN or KotakuTV.

The saddest thing about the G4 attempted reboot is that it could have succeeded if it borrowed from the best of the old and the new. They could have brought some old presenters, kept some of the underwear/Maxim model co-host appeal, brought in some modern streaming/gaming personalities that people actually like, and then have some Code Mokeys-esque animated series that actually explores some of the tropes and issues that new G4 wanted to address in a less preachy/hectoring manner.
Instead they just wanted to have a mediocre attempt at a nostalgia cash grab while thinking their target demo was an editor at Kotaku.
Also; nobody should think hiring a basket-case like Adam Sessler was a good idea.
