The ferries of the so called Vogelfluglinie tirelessly commute between Puttgarden on the island of Fehmarn and Rødby on the Danish Lolland. The transit route is one of the most highly frequented ferry routes to the north.
For 40 years, ferry THEODOR HEUSS provided the trade between people from North and South. The ferry, built 1955 - 1957, was a fixed size in European transport. She wrote history because of her long life. A remarkable ship, which has left traces in its place.
This movie shows my last visit. Shortly before departure to the scrapping in India in April 1997.

I went with Theodor Heuss by truck at the end of its career, probably winter -96 or -97. There was almost nothing left of the interior, and it was quite tragic. Thank you for a wonderful nostalgic film!

Mitte bis Ende 70er. Ostseeurlaube und darin waren auch mind zwei Trips nach Dänemark rüber. Mit dieser Fähre. Puttgarden-Rödbyhavn und zurück. War auch mal Passagier auf ihr, noch als Kind, mit der Familie.

Unzaehlige Male mit diesem Schiff nach DK gefahren,mit dem LKW 80/90ziger Jahre.War immer angenehm,keine Touristen,nur LKWs und Eisenbahnwagons drauf.Oben gabe es ein Salón mit Imbissbude.

She was handled by svitzer wijmuller she would have been looked after in her final days svitzer is the best salvage firm in the world
