Wherever Russia, has gone in the past it has committed atrocities and genocide. Murdering the Polish, officer core at Katyn, Gulags etc. I’ve visited the KGB, torture prisons in Latvia and Lithuania and seen the spot where they shot victims and passed them up to the courtyard to dispose of. There were multiple torture chambers with all sorts of horrors. In Ukraine, we’ve had Bucha, ISIS style executions and I’ve read accounts of mistreatment of POW’s. So, none of this surprises me and things are going to get worse.

The amount of videos of both sides drone operators toying with individual soldiers before exploding is insane. Not to mention the drones being used to kill medevacs, wounded soldiers being taken out of the battle zone, etc. If you are a FPV drone operator anywhere in Ukraine, don't expect to be a POW honestly because of these things. Even if they only went after tanks, apc's, etc, they still get a bad rap from their buddies posting videos of them toying with a random soldier before ending them and doing the same to wounded soldiers being taken out of the zone.

The argument then was it isn’t safe or possible for them to take the prisoners while continuing the attack so they neutralized all Russians that surrendered. NAFO guys that seem to be in your video comment section were cheering that on like a big lgbt cheer squad. Now it’s happening to their side and all a sudden it’s “not right.” And “anyone with morals would be against it.”
I was against it then when it was American mercenaries killing Russian journalists and soldiers and I’m still against it now that it’s Ukrainians and the mercenary/volunteer forces that sided with them.

@@mariobadia4553 I hope he replies. I looked into my question more. First, it's happening on both sides, by Russia and Ukraine. We just see it more with Ukraine because the video footage is much more prevalent. Humans are emotional creatures and prone to making decisions based on personal beliefs, experiences, feelings, and bias. We tend to put ourselves first in all things, while disregarding others, especially when it comes to how we interpret laws. For these reasons, and others, in 2009, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) issued interpretive guidance that states "If a combatant can be put out of action by taking him prisoner, he should not be injured; if he can be put out of action by injury, he should not be killed; and if he can be put out of action by light injury, grave injury should be avoided." Seems logical to me. Killing those considered "hors de combat" (out of combat), meaning they pose no immediate threat; is murder and a war crime. Unless a person has completely lost all sense of humanity, or a psychopath, others would agree with the ICRC's interpretation. If history has proven anything, its that the victors end up applying the laws, and the consequences. I hope when this is all over, the Hague does what it was designed to do, and ensures all war crimes are dealt with, on both sides. There is too much one sided justice in this world, and its sad so many fail, or outright refuse, to recognize or talk about it. Really sad.

This is all very very terrible. I'm Russian and this pains me greatly.
I've seen an interview with Russian who fought under Wagner in Bahmut:
He was asked whether or not they execute prisoners and this is what he replied:
"Yes, we always do. This is because
    1. They allegedly torture ours if captured (he also stressed that if the Russian soldiers being captured they often would try to kill them themselves to avoid the fate by artillery strike or other means.)
    2. He claimed that UA forces fight to the last bullet and only then surrender. When he 1st arrived at the front line ( he was experienced and so made a commander) , he said that they would always offer the chance to surrender, but the Ukrainians would not take this chance while they had amunition. However as soon as they would run out of ammunition they would surrender.
He said that by that point they often killed or wounded several of his guys and so there was no point in taking them prisoner, since they did not surrender at first call.
Again: this is all super wrong and terrible.
I am simply relaying what was said in another interview, by the Commander under Wagner who fought in Bahmut before being wounded.

IIRC these captured Ukrainian POWs were all drone operators or part of drone teams. Fact of the matter is, drone operators or being associated with the operation of one is severely hated by soldiers of both sides.
They are today's snipers and if you are a drone operator/sniper, and you get captured, your days are practically numbered in the single digits.
Note that they are rounded off before being executed, so Russia still does follow Geneva convention protocols during the capture of hostile troops. If not, then any captured POW would be shot on sight. Though after their investigation concludes and they find out you are part of a drone unit, it's pretty much all thrown out the window. Sadly, this applies to both sides.
