It’s a world far from the famous landmarks and political powerhouses the city is known for.
In this unseen side of D.C., two musicians, No Savage and Walk Down Will, play a significant role. Their music, telling the raw and untold stories of this silent war, gives voice to the violence and rivalry that defines their neighborhoods.
No Savage is connected to the 37th Street Gang, his lyrics reflecting the tough life and challenges faced by his crew.
Walk Down Will represents Simple City. His music tells stories of his gang’s life and struggles. They’re both messengers, their songs painting vivid pictures of the ongoing battle.

The difference between a gang and a crew, gangs have leaders and a set of bylaws, you can be recruited in a gang, DC have street crews, more loose knit, all you have to be in a crew is be from said neighborhood or be affiliated through family or friendship, DC don’t do colors and unless your part of that underworld, you won’t know who belongs to what crew especially if your an outsider of the area

I used to live a few blocks off Benning road as a child and now live a few miles away in Capitol Heights. I'm sorry... but whoever made this video needs to do more homework. He made it seem like "gangs" suddenly became a thing because of some dumbass rap beef. Couldn't be further from the truth. Simple City was a thing since the 70's. DC was the "Murder Capitol" in the late 80's (with a murder rate literally twice as high as it is now). That's before these little rap youngins were even born. DC rap is a relatively new thing... DC had it's own style of music called "Go-go".
Second, it's weird he keeps calling them gangs. DC culture was never like LA or Chicago style structured gangs. It was always just neighborhood crews. It's not like LA where you see a bunch of dudes wearing red or blue and have an OG calling the shots. Yeah, there are some similarities, but also alot of differences. It's looser and less structured. Also, in all my years in the DMV, I've never heard it called "Bullet City". Yeah, we had the Bullets basketball team, but I never heard anyone ever call it Bullet City.
Anyway, just saying... if you're gonna do a video about Simple City, do your homework. Talk to some of the old heads who can tell you about how it was in the 80's. These little rap dudes are a by-product of decades of bad blood.

WTF is the difference between the 'crews' of DC and the gangs of LA or Chicago? In the city I grew up, there's a big gang culture and gangs are typically called 'Young Team', 'Fleet', 'Toi', 'Tongs', 'Derry', 'Rebels', 'Mad Skwad' etc. etc. Housing projects and gang territories are known as 'schemes' as public housing projects are known as 'housing schemes' there. While the gangs are predominately white and there's very little in the way of gun crime, there is no shortage of violence and murders. Colours are based on the 2 dominant teams, one wears Royal blue and the other wear green and white hoops and wearing the wrong colour in the wrong area/bar can get you killed. Anyway, it is always been known as a gang orientated city though the way the culture in DC is described, it sounds a similar story of don't be caught in the wrong neighbourhood or get phkd up. Crew/gang/team...it all sounds the same to me.
