- 5SOS's Calum Hood joins Roy English on the first episode of The Mirror Sessions. They discuss how they met, what it's like living together, their ancestors and what universal consciousness is in part one of their two part conversation.
What are The Mirror Sessions? Much of my journey as a musician has been intertwined with friends who are also in the world creating. The exploration of self can often happen when alone, but some of the deepest conversations in life happen when simply taking a walk with a friend. We are all reflections of each other in many ways and hearing the perspectives of those around us can have a profound impact on our path to understanding and trusting who we are. The Mirror Sessions are a place where I talk freely with close friends and acquaintances about music, art, humans and the meaning of life.

I’ve never heard Calum talk that much at one time. I would absolutely love to meet him and sit down and have a talk over a cup of coffee or tea or something. He’s only 26 and yet he speaks and has wisdom as if he’s 90. Calum truly is a one in a million.

Damn the topic of generational trauma was so nicely spoken about. I’ve never heard it spoken about from the side of the people who have done wrong. I feel like it’s mostly spoken about from those who have to overcome the hurt not those who have to overcome the hate.

I always believe that Calum is such a deep spiritual person. When I say spiritual, he is the type who does his best to be in tune with his emotions and other people's. He doesn't talk much in 5SOS interviews, but this video proves that he is I think the kind who leans more towards talking about philosophical stuff like meaning of life, purpose, the 'whys'. This makes me love him even more as an artist and as a human being.

Calum for the past 11 years has lived a life dense with experiences in creating, performing and the giving of himself to the people that enjoy his music. I think he has talks like this, to unravel or tease out, what the meanings of these experiences have had on him. Kind of a reflection on what this life has been so far.

I think you can. I'm 22 (don't know who I am) and in my experience, I have had interactions with people, nature, music, life, etc. where I have felt seen. I think part of your subconscious knows who you are and who you're meant to be and certain interactions grab your attention and that makes you feel deeply seen and comforted. Personally, it's always fun because I get to do some critical reflection into why something made me feel that way and what that means to my own personal development. It feels like unlocking achievements or finding the puzzle piece you've been looking for.

I totally agree. The opportunity cost of being honest is people’s judgement but the goal is to connect to people. With so much judgement in today’s society, it is hard to properly understand someone’s feelings and why they do what they do. Everyone has their own reasons.
