- Aside from the names not being the same, there are other differences between radio prepping and emergency communications. One of the biggest is that Emcomm generally follows the Incident Command System (ICS) training.fema....

I PASSED MY TECH TEST TODAY! I just want to thank you for the inspiration to get into ham radio. I would not have done it without you. I bought the KG-UV9D (plus) that you recommended. I love it. I'll be buying several other things that you recommend as well. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
Congratulations!
Congrats!
The aproach of not using cellphone is the best.
In the drills that a Civil Defense group does every sunday morning here in Portugal, we advise participants to completly stop using cellphones (and internet) to simulate total network loss.
That way you don't cheat or get lazy.
That way you have to prepare for WCS (Worst Case Scenario).
That means simplex, VHF/UHF/HF transportable, off grid power (generator, solar, etc.).
Even fixed stations on the network run on batteries.
So, during drills, silence that cellphone. Gets you into the spirit of future total loss of public networks. Thats where hams can excel.
I am fairly well prepped except for communications and, being Canadian, weapons. My non prepper kids all live 5 minutes from me, so chances are in an emergency they are going to crash here anyway... damnit. This is the only guy I am going to listen to to give me the inspiration and knowledge to finally fill in that communication prep void.
Passed my tech exam yesterday. Thanks to you and your channel for helping and inspiring me to finally get this done. I already have a date to take my general in about six weeks.
Congratulations! Good luck on your General test 🍻
ARES is a great organization to be a part of. It gives me a reason to get out and play radio. I'm also an AEC in Hamilton County Ohio. More often than not, it's a little boring. But, every now and then you get to do some pretty interesting things with served agencies.
Radio prepper / emcomms. Who are you trying to help in an emergency? General public or your "like minded people"? ARES vs AmRRon. Protocols apply to both. Many parallels under a big umbrella of this topic.
actually it is a benefit to prepping to make use of ICS, it keeps things logical and orderly [as much as an emergency can be organized]
Another good one. This answered a LOT of questions 👍
Nobody beats your memes!
Nobody.

Great Video, Josh !!

Hi Folks

Amazon
@@jlowknight I'd the product for me.
Thanks
This is all part of contingency communications. This is a subject that the HAM community keeps skipping over. Too bad. N6JAI
trying to find ham radio crash course on discord.. I downloaded the app just for that purpose.. Can anyone help?
Link is in the description.
When I volunteer at local races, I am typically the medical liason. I like doing nothing
Thanks for an awesome episode! KA1IJA
This sounds more like a couple guys sitting on the porch drinking beers to get drunk. Is this a technical, informative discussion or just endless chatting?
You are both well-informed, but please stay on topic. Save the "beer" for after the session is finished.
Nah. We’ll keep making the videos we want to make.
Holy Shit. I have no idea what is going on.
