Oh man, you just made my day. I have one of this keyboard and it needs a little repair at the Value + button. I want to thank you for this masterclass! Thanks from Brazil!
The Juno D service manual has a schematic showing all the missing components (USB interface, floppy drive controller). They are marked NIU (not in unit) on the schematic - so they are not found on the Juno D board. Likely used in a different synth from the RS-30 line. The Juno D Limited Edition added a 2nd sample ROM chip near the DSP sound generator chip.
I have just finished the complete (61x2) repair of my contact pads on the exactly same model (Juno-D). Now the keyboard is working unbelievably well. I have bought a TV-remote repair set in a TV repair shop. The cost was about 4 euros and I spent 4-5 hours doing it (plus the 24-hour time waiting for the glue).
At 18:50 you are wiggling what appears to be a broken volume pot. Did you actually replace it? My Juno D has the exact same problem. At first it was loose - but still worked... now it’s DOA. Any tips or advice on replacement of that part?? Thanks in advance. 🙏🏻
Elliott Dominguez Yes, I successfully fixed the problem!! Ordered a new pot and carefully followed the instructions on this video (and a couple others). It was a bit of a challenge for me being a novice when it comes to DIY repairs - but I succeeded and the part was less than 10 bucks. 👍
I noticed that a lot of these Japanese keyboards -- Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Hammond-Suzuki all use these same rubber strips.... I believe they are created by FATAR. So I think that the strips are relatively interchangeable, at least on those who are full octaves. Have you noticed the same? The only differences I have found is on 61 & 73 keyboards having shorter versions due to the cut off's of an octave... Your thoughts??? The reason I'm trying to find this out is because, for example, if you have to purchase a new one from Hammond - they want an arm and a leg! If you purchase one from Roland or Yamaha, they are generally more reasonable.
I have one where the volume knob seems to be loose on the inside. Like the whole knob wiggles, and the connection is a bit loose on the output when using the volume knob. Everything else works. Would it be hard to fix myself? I have a little bit of experience with soldering and opsending stuff, but haven’t opened a synth before. Best
This is a great video, thanks for posting. I tried cleaning the lowest octave to test the fix and only 1 key started working. For me, every key is dead but some play sporadically and very quiet. Any ideas if the cleaning doesn't fix it? Or do I just need to do a more thorough cleaning?
I have this synth and the problem is that the sound selection buttons do not work. They keys are fine however. Is it even worth the $$$ getting it fixed?
Ive got an issue with mine,no sound from the main outs.. The headphone jack works but its low and if I press the keys hard I get distortion, the distortion goes away if I turn down the main volume knob but then I can hardly hear the synth at all..
Hello. Sorry, i know it’s out topic but i really need a help with my Korg M50 that have sound crackling, low volume and keep restarting after some minutes. How can i get touch with you ? Thank you and great video with explanation.
I left a comment last year about the bad volume pot you speak of at 18:50. Did you successfully replace it?? I have the same issue but mine is totally DEAD now. Any direction on how to replace that would be gratefully appreciated!!
thanks for your brilliant video of the innards of the Juno D, am going to get replacement rubber contacts for mine, do you know if there's any way of knowing whether the contacts are the newer carbon ones or the earlier gold ones before opening it up? your one has carbon contacts, is that correct?
Greetings, I speak from Brazil. Could you tell me the code (value so I can buy another one and replace) of the "D2" diode on the Power supply board. My diode is shorted. I'm going to buy another one and replace it, maybe my board will come back to life. My diode says U46, at least that's what I think it says. Thank you in advance and congratulations on your RUclips channel.
I have a Roland Juno-D with a couple of dead keys that need cleaning. The modulation stick also doesn't work as intended. Physically it is fine, but it doesn't affect the sound the way it's supposed to, almost like it's disabled. Anyone else have this issue and a resolution? Thanks! UPDATE 4/4/22: Modulation stick wire wasn't properly connected by previous tech -- solution was straightforward, just reconnected the wire from the main board to the modulation stick (there's a clip). Also, fixed my dead keys by following this video. Just needed a good cleaning with 99% iso alcohol. Next up: repairing the tact switches on some buttons (Value +/-, etc.)
New subscriber here, can you diagnose my Roland Juno D if what is the problem? Can turn on but the LCD is blank no words comes out in the LCD, and it has no sound also. Can you help me what parts need to change this?
Nice video. My Juno D problem is a high pitch noise I get when the volume knob is turned between 1/4 and 3/4 up, when connected to my digital piano. Also, there is a pulsating hiss noise. Anyone else have this problem? Is it repairable?
Would you happen to know if the Juno D keybed and ribbon cable would match up on my FA06 ? I have a like knew keybed in the Juno D and a kinda worn down one in the fa06. I want to swap em out. Anyone thanks !

Hello Sir, I have a problem with a Juno - D identical as shown in your video. I have a blank screen..no sound...power supply is OK (12 V and 5 V OK). Can you help me? I will appreciate so much. BR - GM
Typical roland volume pots. You can recrimp the can, and it will fix it. Not the best, but works. Every darn roland item I have used, the same style pot is broken. All the same reason, the shaft pushed hard, and bends the can tabs that hold it together.
Hi, do you happen to know what causes a key to be wiggly? Like its a bit loose and has a little play from side to side(G - 4th octave), all the rest feels fine and stiff, havent opened it though, thanks!
Hi there I have different question regarding this exact Synth. Can you please tell if you perhaps updated it through PC or mac and know how to do it and what it does and if you would recommend it? Cheers
I replaced the rubber pads on our d after 5 years. Early ones had an issue and cleaning them doesnt last, as i found out after dissasembly and cleaning twice. Just buy a new contact pad strip
Hi bradthx, i have a Juno D LE and i want to ask something. When i start the synth, the first 10 seconds the output sounds "crackie", then go normal. I think that the problem is a low capacitor, but when i saw the main board...that has a lot of electrolytic components. Do you know what the audio ones are? (maybe the problem is similar to the XP-50) Thanks!
I found one for the RS-70 on Rolands website, there should be one for every old model. You could use the RS-70s documentation for the most part, too, it is almost the same machine. another guy here on youtube has 2 RS-70 vids explaining the differences. (sounds, functions)
Hi! I have a problem with Juno D. After tried to update the system to 1.04 version my synth doesn't work anymore. I press the power button and the screen is empty, nothing symbols, only orange light. How can I solve this problem?

It’s a well made repair video with good narration. But I have a pet hate with repairers needlessly touching bare metal contacts while not earthed.
If you carefully control your environment with proper humidity, after 20+ years it's never been an issue.
