Love that you show the "mistakes" and struggle it takes to find the perfect shot. It's never as straight forward and simple as it may seem so it's nice to see the real creative process 👍👍
Dude for real people think it's easy and every shot is right on the money first try. Multiple products will end up taking hours before any post processing
You kept saying “it’s not the best but it’ll do🤷” and im in shock everytime cause your photography and editing skills are honestly amazing!!! Don’t down play yourself cause this is the definition of talent!!
I had watched a Domestika Course and was intrigued with product photography, although their shoot was too perfect (or maybe edited). Watching this gives me confidence to try and work through the struggles that may come up. The "struggle" and the "mess" was made this video perfect 😊.
Great video! Super helpful that you walk through the process into detail, addressing issues that probably many encounter when shooting product photos! Would love to see more content from you!
Good job! There is one brilliant solution for your issues with the reflections in the first shot, and it is using a large DIFFUSER and THAN playing with light position. I was expecting you to take one instead of giving up and get hard light. It works with all reflective surfaces :)
Great job! I really enjoyed it. I love the way you started from your thought process and then ended with your editing on photoshop and showing us the final images.
The endresult is really amazing even though i have to say as a retoucher that the retouching techniques look very destructive and old school. The result is what counts in the end but i think you could save yourself a lot of time with for example Frequency seperation 2.0. Its just amazing how great it is for specially product retouching. Also an alternative way of getting great results with the whole highlighting issues is if you light the shot only from one side in several positions and then put the best parts together into one. I think that could have tackled a few of the problems that you had. Just my two cents. Amazing job.
Yes definitely! Retouching is an aspect of the process that I still need to learn. I like to think that I've improved since this video was released lol (especially as it pertains to working non-destructively). Still a long way to go. I really appreciate your feedback and tips!
@@anthonyvoltsinis ah yeah i just realized this has a good year on its back. I feel like its super important to have this non destructive as we all had a client before that goes like "ah i changed my mind or i d like this different". It saves so much time if you can just go back to any part and just change it with no repercusion. I ll be watching more of your product tutorials as i m eager to learn that at this time and it looks like fun :) keep it up
@Anthony Voltsinis Heck yeah, I've made a DIY soft box, created a somewhat big white backdrop out of thick paper as well as several other smaller colorful ones, bought some products (bags for now), learned how to actually shoot photos with a camera phone, how to edit them so they look good, learned about props thanks to you and many other generous creators, and started my own small online business. It's going slow but it exists, and that's a positive piece of reality in my terribly negative environment. Thanks for wishing me luck
For your 1st shot add a scrim between your main light and the bottle will get you the beautiful gradient specular highlight. The hightlight is just reflecting back the light source. The harder the light the harder the highlight. :)
Thank you so much! I've been so caught up with work, that I had to put RUclips on hold. However, comments like these really motivate me to get back into producing content. Means the world.
@@anthonyvoltsinis going though the same stuff here man just Posted 4 vids and stopped. Seeing you stop was not good man you create some quality content, don't stop!♥️
loved the video! but i wish you could have gone slower on the edits on photoshop, its the hardest part for me! could you teach us how you edited on photoshop and what tools you used? thank you!
Yes definitely! Thanks for the feedback. I''m mainly using the Spot Healing Brush (play around with the brush hardness, flow, and opacity), the Patch tool, and the Clone Stamp tool. I can work on a video that explains this.
Read up on the inverse square law. I think it will really help you understand your lighting better. Learn about flagging too. I would always shoot product with a tripod or stand.....never free held. Also, if you are going to comp in splashes rather than take the time to splash the product yourself, make sure you match the light as they are well off. I think the stool worked better than I expected it too! Maybe try wire or clear perspex rods next time.
Thanks a lot! How would you have approached the lighting on the first shot? Move the source further away (although tricky in my room) and bump the intensity to compensate for the falloff? The stool was definitely not ideal lol.
Some people suggested that I bring the source as close to the product as possible, which makes sense. I just found it tricky to accomplish in my environment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
@@anthonyvoltsinis Use a smaller light that from the position/perspective of the product is the same size as your strip softbox. Or bounce the light off a large white panel above such as a piece of reflector card or the ceiling. Which you did start to do......but without knowing the power of your light and distance to the refector its hard judge on the images you briefly showed. If you shoot it on a tripod then you could light the various areas of the product (edge lighting, specular highlight, brand name etc) then comp those together. Almost impossible if you do it freehand as the angle, perspective and diatance from the product will all be different.
@@anthonyvoltsinis Just put an empty layer above the layer you want to edit. Then click the sample all layers box. Then use the spot healing tool on the empty layer to edit the layer below it! This will also allow you to use a mask to change any errors! Main picture still intact! Good luck!! :)
If you ever did a digital course on this it would sell! I have no idea how to use photoshop and I’m launching my clean beauty brand during this pandemic. I’m trying to shoot everything by myself, not because i have much choice lol

what is the app you are using before photoshop
I was using Adobe Lightroom Classic!
What camera and lens are you using for this shoot?
Harrison, I was rocking the Canon 5div, Sigma 50mm Art f1.4, and Canon 100mm L F2.8 IS lenses.
thanks bro
No problem man. Hope this helped!
Great
Do yo need lightroom for this? Is there any other photo processing that can do this?
You can also use Capture One or any other photo editor. Photoshop would be my main tool to manipulate the images! I prefer the Adobe ecosystem.
Super dope man! Thanks for sharing! 🙌🏼
Thanks bro!
Place diffuser paper in front of your lights
Big things coming for you man! Keep pumping out that high quality stuff 👊
yeah thats what many people think..the real process is way harder than what we see in tiktok.
Quick tip: your light source was to close to the product on the first shot cause this harsh reflection
