  • Two-way Colorado superstar Travis Hunter's Heisman Trophy win this weekend did not come without pushback from some corners of the college football landscape. Pushback that J.D. PicKell reacts to following one of the closest Heisman Trophy races to date between Hunter and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

It was all bias… The fact people can’t make the logical thought of how difficult it is for one player to be elite on both sides.
    Literally incredible

It got weird, plain and simple. It went from people disapproving of the outcome to them trying to tie together loose justifications for Travis “ not being good enough,” then devolved into this pseudo-political media conspiracy theory debate. With the whole “you know why he really won it-it’s the media’s fault” narrative and character attacking. The argument became so casually influenced that I don’t even think half the people who are fake outraged even watched a single full game of either player. Either way, I’m happy for Travis. He’s a great player and person. The man balled out and deserved to be awarded for making literal history. 🏆

The accomplishment "goalposts" for Colorado moved continuously throughout the season, from "mediocre record prediction" all the way upto "shouldn't have won the Heisman" and "didn't go to the playoffs", prompted by the doubters and haters. After Colorado would succeed time and time again, doubters and haters refused to recognize achievement, instead giving ground by naysaying: "oh, it was a garbage team you beat", "oh, they played them at home". and "oh, it wouldn't have happened if so and so weren't hurt". They had no ground left to give when TH won the Heisman, but still they sling mud not willing to accept success. Doubters and haters seek to win by observing the failure of others. Well, doubters and haters: YOU LOST and can't do anything about it but whine, cry and snivel. Thank you On3 for putting out this video.

Great Heisman race! We should appreciate what both these players did. We’ll likely never see anyone do what Travis did, and it will be a while before a season like Jeanty had.

They made so many excuse it was wild . Travis won by the media vote . Yet some media didn’t have Travis in the poll for top 3 . They said jeanty was the people heisman , yet the the people heisman poll showed that actually counted Travis won by 50% . Travis is average db and wr. 😂😂😂 the goal post kept moving . Travis was padding stats but yet they said look at Travis stats he not even top 5 😂😂

My opinion the hate isnt about stats alone… Jeanty literally carried his team to a Conference championship, and a first round bye in the playoffs. Even with every team knowing he was going to get the ball, he dominated….

As great as Jeanty is. We've seen it before. He was chasing Barry. We haven't seen anyone do what Travis is doing. He wasn't chasing anyone. Travis just set the bar that other players will try to strive for, not Jeanty. RBs will still be chasing Barry.

@@TChalla007 it's also a shame people are saying "chasing Barry". This is very inaccurate and sort of lends itself towards Jeanty's legacy being tainted by his fans thinking he was anywhere near Barry Sanders.
Barry did it in 11 games - if you count Barry's bowl game stats Barry ran for closer to 3000 yards total (he did about 220 yards in the bowl) meaning his total yards for that year were 2850.

Always appreciate JD, and almost never comment, but felt like some bulletpoints were missed.
First, disagreeing isn't hating or tearing anyone down. It's just comparison and using the pieces available.
It could be argued Travis Hunter was neither the best WR nor DB in the country, yet if we combine and glorify total snaps, he's the Heisman winner. Why did Prime make a fuss about Hunter not winning the Thorpe?
Anyone who watched CU games knows they force-fed Hunter. Great athlete, yes, and made some acrobatic catches. One question I have, does Hunter play all those snaps and put up the same numbers throughout a B1G/SEC season? The Big 12 is behind both and was won this year by a team that was predicted to finish last. So overall, it does feel like the production wasn't there, or was underwhelming, considering all variables. But maybe he still wins it in the B1G/SEC on total snaps played.
Jeanty didn't play in a great conference either, but teams knew he was getting the ball and couldn't stop him. He had more YAC than the next leading rusher had yards. That's the most impressive stat in college football, in my opinion. Another question, if Jeanty doesn't sit 8, 9, or however many quarters due to blowouts, does he break Barry's record? In hindsight, maybe BSU should've padded his stats.
The other point of contention is production in big games. CU played one ranked team (KSU), which they lost, and Hunter was held in check. Conversely, Jeanty had huge games versus ranked opponents (UNLV, Oregon). Most notably, 7.7 per carry in Eugene.
Also, do believe there is something to be said for carrying your team. Remove either player from their team and how does that team fair? Feels like CU could be in the same boat. Not so much for Boise.
All said, congrats to both. Just hope what Jeanty did this year isn't forgotten because of total snaps played in altitude or for not breaking a rushing record (per some comments in here).

  • @Dreallday20
    @Dreallday20 3 часа назад +3

It didnt matter what Ashton did at RB. The only way Ashton Jeanty was going to win the Heisman was if his coach allowed him to start and play full time at LB and he managed to get at least 6 sacks this season in addition to his RB numbers. Travis was a major impact player on offense and defense and did them both full time.
