Satvahanas, Vakatakas and the Yadavas can be truly called as 'pure Maharashtrian' empires, but the Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas and others can be called as Marathas. If an Indian speaks English, doesn't makes him an Englishmen. Similarly, Rashtrakutas and Chalukyas and even Yadavas in the early years, used Kannada, but majority of their military and administrative elite and common populace, spoke Maharashtrian Prakrit. They themselves were of Maratha origin. In the very same way, the Ghorpades, Thanjavur Bhonsles etc used Kannada and wrote a number of masterpieces in it, but do we call them Kannada? @@user-ue9dd4nu7b read the history properly. First devgiri yadavas were mahrattas. They themselves mention them as mahratta in their inscription. Maratha ≠ marathi. Even descendants bloodlines of them are found in mahratta today.
