i'm so hoping 5 could be a redemption arc for the toys + bonnie arch for sure hopefully having bonnie giving more screentime compared to 4 though along with her gaining more of a good character development would be a lovely improvement.
TS4 was out there, but not that stupid. The guy seriously tried to salvaje a relationship that was not going to survive. He was ready to try even dumb things for it.
Toy Story That Time Forgot was a Toy Story Christmas special that was released in 2014. The story revolves around Bonnie going over to her friend Mason's house. She goes to look in his playroom, but instead he is in a game room of sorts on his new console, the Optimum X. The C plot of the story revolves around Bonnie being converted to gaming rather than playing (with toys). In a clever move, Trixie (by the way this happens in the A plot) reveals one of the toys Mason received for Christmas, prompting both Bonnie and Mason to go back to playing. They both run back into the playroom, and the story ends on a good note for all after Buzz, Woody, Rex, Prickle pants, and Angel Kitty are saved from certain death, Trixie converts a combat-based dinosaur civilization to accept play, and overall, Bonnie rejects videogames. The story reflects the everlasting quality of childhood, and no matter who you are, you will always have some in you. Or, in other words... THEY ALREADY DID TECH VS. TOY!
Ehh not really. Yes tech was involved in the plot of That Time Forgot, but it wasn’t really explored in any real meaningful way. The Optimum X was just a distraction for Bonnie and Mason to allow the A and B plots to unfold without interruption. You could easily replace the Optimum X with a board game or even them playing outside and it wouldn’t really change anything.
Not to mention, what is with boomers and thinking kids can't have more than one hobby? Like... I literally never saw liking toys, liking videogames, or even playing outside as being mutually exclusive - they were just different. In a good way.
@@SlipNJimmyfair point tbh, and I get that was like looking at what kids were gonna be like in the future with video games and whatnot. But I just don’t like the idea of them making one of the main plotpoints something they kind of already touched on. Not to mention they have the resources of a micronation(and the workforce of one too) so the fact they did it again and didn’t come up with something new is just kind of disappointing. Valid point tho, it was mostly just “toy good, other thing bad” and could’ve been replaced by anything else.
Toy Story Rapidly approaching the Indiana Jones School of though of: There is only the Original Trilogy and maybe a couple of Side Stories and curios in its series. And nobody talks about Movie 4 and 5.
Well 4 technically did not wet the bed it was not a bust in the box office so toy story is still good at the moment opinions are opinions but numbers are numbers sorry
the whole Buzz army idea would be funnier if they were all different colours and gimmicks, almost like a parody of how many Kenner Batman figures were cranked out in the 90’s.
Throw in a bit with Buzz drawing on a mustache and goatee to appear like the alternate universe Buzz who took up the mantle of Zerg after Zerg left it to become a chef at a diner. Yes, that is a Buzz and yes, Zerg did become a chef, seemed happier too. Could also throw in that bounty hunter alter ego and even a version with the commander of star command in disguise as he also wore the uniform.
There’s probably going to be a gag with a few different looking soldiers, I say this because there were multiple buzz lightyear action figures, like America buzz, silver buzz, etc
I don’t understand why people keep bringing up Ice Age as a comparison. Toy Story has a 98% average rating while Ice Age through all fives has a 42.5% average rating.
I will always say this, if they wanted toy story to keep going...why didn't they just have an whole new toy cast? We can conclude and appreciate andy toys journey ending in 3, so why not have an new generation dealing with this problem
My thoughts exactly! We can appreciate small nods too, like if toy story 4 had been w a different set of toys, seeing a Woody's Roundup" poster in the antique shop or something!
But that wouldn't be profitable! We can't use new characters as nostalgia bait! Gotta squeeze all the dough out of people. Even if it costs a good story and characters.
@@TheRandomViewer-zv4bv True. Even if it completely ruins the characters (specifically Woody, Bo Peep Jessie and ESPECIALLY Buzz) like Toy Story 4 did, they need to milk Toy Story dry for reasons... 😢 Look at how they massacred my fav characters...
Disney could’ve also just kept making more of those Toy Story Toons or half an hour specials like Time Forgot or Of Terror, hell, they could’ve done a Toy Story TV series for Disney Plus, since those are just little side entries that are essentially more of Andy’s toys without continuing their story, at least to some extent.
This isn't the first time Disney contradicted themselves. In the movie Tron Legacy, an actual quote from it is "You can't steal something that was designed to be free." And this comes from Disney, a company known for corporate greed
@@IllustraRaven that is a mixed message, because you could say, the "iPad babies, whose every choice is decided by a rogue AI" (wow that movie really keeps getting better), was in order to save the human race.
The thing that pisses me off about the 90 Commemorative Buzz Army thing is in relation to the Buzz Lightyear cartoon. You’d think after 25-30 years fans of the cartoon’s other characters would be like, “Another Buzz "variation?!”
Yeah, they'd at least do one that's like a composite, or an alternate version or "What if another character from the show had the Buzz costume on?" And so on.
I really feel like the biggest issue of Toy Story 4 was the message. Living your life with who you choose, the way you want, is a good message, just... Not in the concept of toys. Every kid has a favourite toy, and I just couldn't help but find it uncanny how TS4 basically says "these toys are poor and opressed, longing for freedom and private life, you should just dump them into a sandpit cause apparently that's what they really want." Bo Peep unironically sounded like a weird mixture of HAL 9000 and Lenin. It felt so weird... The fact this movie snatched the Oscar from Klaus is still criminal.
@alchemy5750 Yeah, I mean the Entire point of the first Toy Story trilogy was that " you've got a friend in me " meaning that the toys are friends with the kids forever and the toys will never let them down and will always comeback no matter what, the entire plot of the first 3 Toy Story Movies was toys getting lost and then them getting back to their home for the kid, Toy Story 4 just kicks all of that out and tries to show us about a toy's personal choice for living with another toy instead of caring about their responsibilities as a toy to those childrens
@@Mohammed-gc1xt And to try and get us on their side with that idea they rewrote Bonnie to suddenly want nothing to do with Woody after she loved him so much and practically begged Andy to let her keep him. Kinda makes me wish Andy didn’t give them all away after all if she was gonna just toss them aside and throw them into the closet before even a year had passed
@enchantingkatie2 yeah they really ruined the ending of Toy Story 3, imagine if Andy comes back and finds out Bonnie lost Woody and doesn't even care about him or even know where he is
Disney still thinks Buzz Lightyear is still a hot-selling brandnew toy after 14 fucking years(Toy Story 4 takes place in year 2009) since the first movie? get out.
If that's true, then what year does Toy Story That Time Forgot take place in? The console Bonnie and Mason are playing on resembles a lot like a PS4, which is a console that released in 2013
@@demosneokleous4877 that, I think it has nothing to do with real life video-game technology. but you can surely say that the short movie takes place in 2007 or 2008.
Release date gaps: TS-1995: 0 years TS2-1999: 4 years TS3-2010: 11 years TS4-2019: 9 years TS5-2026: 7 years If we keep following this trajectory, TS6-2031: 5 years TS7-2034: 3 years TS8-2035: 1 year Then Disney will finally have to invent time travel and release TS9-2034: -1 year
This may surprise some, but Walt Disney himself was notoriously anti-sequel. He seldom made them. When his 1933 animated adaptation of The Three Little Pigs made a lot of money and won an Oscar, he was asked by distributors and theaters to make more cartoons with the characters. He only did them because his brother and business partner Roy O. Disney said they needed the money. The three cartoons starring the characters were nowhere near as successful as the original. From thereon in, Walt Disney would frequently say throughout the years, "You can't top pigs with pigs."
Well I’m certainly not anti-sequel, I’m very much in the anti stop-beating-a-dead-horse-with-another-dead-horse camp. Walt Disney most likely just noticed that sequels very rarely ever reach the peaks and heights of the original, so he resorted to just not relying on them and focusing instead on new ideas. Wish modern Disney would do the same. You don’t have to completely ignore your existing IPs, but relying on them so heavily when the reason people loved you in the first was because you were once the pinnacle of CREATIVITY is… a choice. And a bad one at that.
The idea that the toys become obsolete due to rising technology makes too much sense NOT to do ......but why did we bring back the evil buzz lightyear storyline from Toy Story 2?
Or incorporating that with a new line of Buzz Lightyear toys (perhaps salvaging something from Lightyear in that these new ones are based on that movie while the OG line is based off of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command). The new line has more technologically going on (a QR code for an iPad app with AR features to use the toy with maybe), and it becomes an exploration of technical specs vs soul, with a side of how iPads have impacted imagination.
@@MrTragedious986Also the Zerg toy in TS2 becomes more chaotic neutral at the end. Still thinks he’s Zerg, but also is enjoying playing around with his son catching up for lost time.
The Toy Story shorts they did after Toy Story 3 were much better. Pleasant snippets into life with Bonnie, but nothing that overstayed its welcome or undid what came before. If they really wanted to keep Toy Story going, that was probably the best way to go.
This is objectively not the case, though. They've all progressed the overarching plot. Them releasing another movie doesn't undo what the other movies did.
Why do studios don’t consider Spin-offs, spin-offs are rarely made these days and it would be a great addition in adding more creativity and expanding an already existing universe without limitations there’s no need to keep milking these characters
The moral of Toy Story 5 will be that consumers need to consume faster and harder than ever before to prevent discarded merchandise from going to landfills. Viewers will be guilt-tripped for not purchasing enough items and the disposal of the unsold toys will be framed as a moral failure of the consumers, not of the corporation for thoughtlessly churning out garbage nobody wants or needs. Or maybe it'll be about how interacting with your kids is good actually I dunno
The jealousy aspect is what made Toy Story a brilliant movie idea. To say "issues" somewhat undersells it's poetic irony. Woody's jealousy was, "I'm Andy's toy. He's supposed to love me". [Shakes his fist at Buzz]. Buzz Lightyear's jealousy was, "I'm a space ranger. I'm supposed to fly". [Shakes his fist at birds]. Both were jealous but their jealousy was shown as understandable feelings which you could sympathize with. Woody's jealousy was for a new toy while Buzz's jealousy started once he learned he was only a toy. Few stories ever explored jealousy before without making it a moral "issue" but Toy Story introduced two protagonists who both at some point in the story jealous; despite remaining completely human. Their jealousy ended when their friendship, created by Woody and Buzz's jealousy, began. That's incredible storytelling and it wouldn't exist if the usual route was taken which is immediately stating "jealousy's bad". Toy Story's unconventional use of jealousy as the catalyst for an extraordinary friendship was made possible by avoiding the typical "jealousy issues" approach.
The plot of Toy Story 5 shows that we took toy story 4 for granted because at least Toy Story 4 tried to be something good which is raping us woody’s character arc, it was nice seeing bo peep again, forky was a great character But Toy Story 5 is even more of a cash grab
@@Nio744They changed the seven dwarves to actually look like the seven dwarves. Too bad that won’t actually make the movie any good. Disney would just be better off canceling the movie altogether but that won’t happen because they’ve already spent too much money on it. I hope that film bombs hard same for Lilo & Stitch and all these other pointless installments like Cars 4, Frozen 3, and the upcoming MCU crap.
Nah, I want to see them continue to make all that slop because it’s very satisfying to watch them fall. If their bad example is big enough of a failure, then less companies will want to chase what they’ve become.
well with some rumors stating that andrew wilson (ceo of ea) is possibly 1 of the lead candidates for the job, i would be worried over who takes over since who the hell knows how much more the disney properties will be butchered under andrew wilson when considering the state of ea under his thumb
So many movie studios these days doing the equivalent of beating a dead horse until the flesh has completely rotted away and the bones are dust. I feel like people can only hope that it is passable, could always be surprised I suppose but definitely best to wait for reviews.
@@mangosprango Not really though. The tech in That Time Forgot was just there to distract Bonnie and Mason long enough for the real plot to occur. There was no commentary on tech at all. The video game system they play could’ve easily been swapped for a board game or them doing something outside and it wouldn’t change anything.
8:40 I mean, it's not unheard of to find old stock that's been forgotten about in warehouses, there was a massive upset when a whole bunch of original G1 Transformers were discovered still sealed in shipping crates and stuff in a warehouse like a decade or two ago
I agree on the Buzz part but I actually enjoyed the morals. When you think of the Toy Story series being about the toys as stand ins for parents. Toy Story 4 was basically Woody's Empty Nest Syndrome with him learning that he did his job and raised a good kid and now it's ok for him to live his own life and enjoy it.
@@KekkersboyBut if you think about Woody's act again, and everything that happened in the trilogy and in the fourth film, everything turns out to be different.
@Kekkersboy I just felt Gabby deserved some consequences and I felt the departure was poorly handled especially with no cathartic payoffs with the rest of the characters in regards to Woody's decision. The plot felt unfinished and half baked with how it handled the theme, the lesson may be there in a vacuum, but when taking the rest of series into consideration it rings hollow.
@@KekkersboyHe still had another kid to raise though. It doesn’t matter that Bonnie wasn’t playing with him, cause she only didn’t play with him for 3 days of a week at most, not to mention she played with him during the goddam Forky suicide travel montage. Not to mention that he went for potential years of not being played with in Andy’s teenage years, and he never abandoned Andy there, because that’s how strong his loyalty is. So yeah, the ending of 4 is a betrayal of Woody’s defining characteristics, as well as a huge middle finger to the original trilogy and everyone who enjoyed them.
As a Toy Story fan, loved the first 3. Watched 4 in cinema and walked out feeling pretty disappointed with it despite everyone else seeming to love it at the time?! I felt like they ruined some of the characters ESPECIALLY Buzz, and the ending DID NOT make me cry of feel any emotions. In fact, it goes completely against the message of "sticking together no matter what" from the previous films. Now they are making a 5th film and I just groan. I don't even feel compelled to watch it!
@@demosneokleous4877 even though it was an unnecessary sequel I still enjoyed it, ts5 is probably aiming to fix the mess of ts4 and the same guy who directed WALL-E & Finding Nemo is directing TS5, so until we know more about the movie, its not fair to be making negative statements about it, just give it a chance and see how things go.
Toy Story was such a good franchise in the beginning. But we aren't even in the same century as when the first movie released. Pixar really needs to stop milking franchises and focus on new stories and relight the creative spark they used to have instead of throwing buzzwords and nostalgia in our faces, crying for us to "Buy! Buy! Buy!"
Disney themselves released Onward, Soul, Raya, Encanto, Luca, Turning Red, Strange World, Elemental, Wish, and will release Elio next year, in the span of 5 years...
May I add IPs which were once new stories rewritten, redesigned, and experimented on multiple times before their final theatrical version. One of the reasons I loved watching 20th and early 21st century animated movies was for their behind the scenes bonus features. Which were an entire movie in of themselves. Showing pioneers on an animation frontier inventing and exploring new tools, techniques, and discoveries. Now, somehow I sincerely doubt these movies were made taking multiple rewrites and lengthy pre-production stages to complete by release.
Honestly if they Had to make another buz is the antagonist story they could have easily tackled another type of toy they haven't really done much with yet, Prototypes. Have the evil buz be an erliy prototype that was never finished. He's not fully painted, he doesn't have the voice buttons or maybe even a different voice to make him stand out. But most importantly make him aware that he's a toy. Make him feel self conscious about the fact that he was never finish and have him want or even crave the idea of having an owner that he would do anything to get that goal. Maybe the other buz toys could just be unsold toys that are in the same warehouse the prototype is stored in. the prototype gets crowned the leader because of the fact that he's the original versionand they go off the fine a new owner, leading them to our original buz. Probably not the best idea but it's one I had to make it at least a little bit different from other attempts to make buz the antagonist.
Isn't this basically the idea from Toy Story 3's original 2005 concept? The scrapped one by that side studio that was also making Finding Nemo 2 and Monsters Inc 2 Lost in Scareadise?
It's odd to me they gave Buzz his own villain, yet he's only been shown in one movie. Why not do that as a concept? An army of Zurg toys comes out and they all think they're an armada. Buzz sees himself in this situation and tries to reason with one Zurg to be different and accept being a toy. Like Buzz had to.
They technically already did that in 3, with the Zurg from 2 being donated to the day care. But I agree it's a damn shame that nothing has been done with Zurg, arguably one of the coolest pixar villains ever made.
I feel like for a franchise to keep going like this, you need a soft reboot. The same universe and everything, but focus on a different kid and set of toys. Woody and Buzz are still doing their thing elsewhere, but they've been through enough. Also, I hate to say it, but we've already lost some of the original voice actors for Andy/Bonnie's Toys, and I'd hate to see the party dwindle due to real-life passing or have the movie makers try to use any recorded audio to try and keep them in.
I think the only way it would make sense for Woody to reunite with the toys is if Buzz and the rest needed help with something related to the main conflict, perhaps a strength that Woody excels in such as planning, leadership, and mostly loyalty.
"Buzz Lightyear, Spreading evil to invinity, And beyond! (Evil Laugh) I love that quote to be honest and let's hope one of the AI Buzz's said that quote.
Looking at the concept art again it looks like they're crawling out of a shipping container in a desert. I think the evil buzz plot is going to be a, the humans/ kids abandoned us here so we escaped on our own and want retribution. Also the concept art is very similar to the original framing in planet of the apes when the MC discovers he's not on an alien planet but on earth. It's just unrecognizable.
I really don't know how anyone could actually defend Toy Story 4, I'm way too hung up on those comments. That movie is by FAR the most atrocious monstrosity trying to pass off as a movie that Pixar has made
And I can imagine Woody being like a person who grew up during Gen Z and very relatable and even saying: "What the heck does Skibidi even mean?! It makes no sense to me what-so ever!"
They'd have to have a really good explanation for Woody being back for this. Also, just now realizing... The villains being app-controlled Buzz Lightyears. So the villains are the new Robosen Buzz Lightyears... Uuuuuugh.....
I sincerely hope, at the very least, there is a small nod to Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, the Disney Channel show. At least an old DVD or something, throw us fans a bone! Disney likes to act like the show never happened, but now that Lightyear is out, maybe they'll take a look back at some of the other characters. Lots of toy fodder, like XR and Booster, and you can bring back Wayne Knight! Not only did he voice "the Chicken Man" Al of Al's Toybarn in Toy Story 2, he was also the voice of Zurg in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, his voice was just pitched down to sound closer to the movie voice (who isn't Wayne Knight). I'm not optimistic about the film but I hope they make a few nods to the other parts of Toy Story lore, maybe the shorts Knick-Knack or Tin Toy, and I look forward to the inevitable Pixar Easter Eggs scattered throughout. Edit: So Zurg in Toy Story 2 was voiced by Andrew Stanton, the voice of Crush from Finding Nemo! He was also co-director for a lot of Pixar movies like Finding Nemo and Wall-E, and is the Director/Writer for Toy Story 5. Zurg is directing Toy Story 5, lol
@@ohboy-zi1yf Apparently, they did a home release, they just didn't reprint it. Also, the first few episodes in their movie form with the wraparound are still on DVD. And it's on the place that recently got successfully sued for being a digital library during a pandemic that didn't enforce artificial scarcity for no reason.
The ipad gen sounds like a good idea on paper but it also dates the movie. Also they already did this premise in the Christmas special with video games
It’s amazing how much they just keep misunderstanding Buzz’ character. Like, since it’s about technology, they could’ve easily made the villain a toy that’s been integrated with an app that believes it’s better than the other toys.
I don’t know where you were, but TS4 was an absolute cash grab that DESTROYED the perfect ending while also SCREWED OVER Woody’s entire philosophy just to follow the annoyingly “girl boss” Bo Peep, a character who NEVER mattered in any previous movie to forward the plot. IT. KILLED. THE. ENTIRE. FRANCHISE. OF. DIGNITY AND VALUE
Honestly, it’s kind of shocking to see Pixar go in the opposite direction of the Animation industry. Pixar used to stand out of the crowd in the past due to their films being extremely high quality in a sea of mediocrity from studios like Dreamworks, Sony Animation, and Bluesky. However in the 2010s, Pixar started focusing more on sequels as opposed to original films. In the mid to late 2010s, the animation industry started to experiment more and more, yet Pixar went backwards by doubling down on sequels. Though Pixar had a few interesting films in the 2020s such as the adult oriented Soul, the Ghibli esque Luca, and the deeply personal Turning Red, Disney had no faith in these films. So Pixar has turned into a shell of its former self while other studios are going forward and taking the place of Pixar, especially Dreamworks, once a studio that was once the butt of jokes, is proving to be actually good again with films like The Bad Guys, Puss in Boots 2, The Wild Robot, and Dog Man.
Soon Pixar will go downhill like every other franchise under Disney. Screw Disney... I regret ever loving them, I don't care if that makes me sound like an asshole...
Are we gonna have all buzz become good at the end and buzz has to leave and become “commander “ buzz light year. Kind of like the way the dogs were handled in up ? Just speculating.
It sounds like the retooled the rejected plotline for Disney's Toy Story 3, they one they were planning before they reached an agreement with Pixar many, many years ago. EDIT: oh, he mentions that by the seventh minute. My bad.

Ok, how the fuck people didn't realize that toys are alive if there's an entire line of action figures that come into the world convinced they're actual space rangers?
4:31 I'm sorry, but i will NOT take this Toy Story 2 slander! Buzz DOES meaningfully contribute to Woody's character arc in Toy Story 2! Also, the double Buzz B plot is great! It's both humorous and effectively shows how denial is a terrible way of coping with the truth, something that OG Buzz didn't experience in the first movie because he had a complete mental breakdown and an identity crisis the moment he realized he wasn't a toy. Don't mess with Toy Story 2!
Also, the whole "Buzz is/acts dumb" thing isn't true for Toy Story 2 and 3 anyways. "Lacking self-awareness" is NOT "being dumb", despite what you clearly want to believe. The shelf-stuck Buzz in Toy Story 2 and the factory reset of Buzz in Toy Story 3 only lack self-awareness because they haven't gone through the OG Buzz character arc, and they're STILL shown to be quick, resourceful, strategic, and excellent fighters. It's this sort of confusion between "thinks he's a space ranger" and "is dumb" that makes people not respect Buzz Lightyear and his character arcs in Toy Story 2 and 3, and even the team behind Toy Story 4 has made this mistake! They deliberately gave Buzz nothing to do as a befuddled and naive comic relief character, while Toy Story 2 and 3 actually make good use of him for important plot points. Heck, SMALL FRY depicts Buzz more accurately and effectively than Toy Story 4, and it's not even remotely close.
I could see an army of buzzes working if it goes along with this Toy vs Tech plot. Like maybe have the army of newerish buzzes under a leader (maybe an original Lightyear) and this guy realising his place in the world as a toy and feeling betrayed by the world with never being as much sent to a store, managed to manipulate this storage container of the buzzes with the little belts and declares war on tech, risking the exposure of toys being alive or something. Idk, I'm making this up on the spot but I'm just trying to say that you could maybe make it work depending on how they tackle this idea (even if it is just a mash-up of Stinky Pete's and Lotso's villainy), but I don't have much hope that Pixar will actually do this
With Toy Story 4 already having so many problems, I am not expecting much from Toy Story 5. I do not look forward to a fifth Toy Story entry that is likely to be a disappointment to the franchise and the conclusion to its entire continuity.
The annoying thing is, I think a villainous Buzz could work with the theme. The Toys vs Tech message could've been used to have a villainous toy that follows the archetype of one of those toys that relies on an app or an internet connection for its functionality, and it wouldn't be completely unreasonable to imagine a new iteration of the Buzz Lightyear toy that follows this model. In a sense, this could give Buzz an arc not unlike Woody's in the first movie, where this new iteration of him can seemingly outdo him in all sorts of ways, leaving Buzz feeling inadequate, but the tech-powered Buzz proves cold and emotionless because unlike the other toys who have agency and life, this one is just controlled by the app.
Why can't we have a fun timeless adventure rather than some weirdo modern commentary we all already agree with? iPad Babies Bad isn't a message we need to be told. What a waste of time and money if they're actually going to make a whole movie about it...
I would love to see a movie focused on Woody’s backstory. Either how he came into Andy’s possession (plus Andy’s dad), AND/OR his backstory on the show Woody’s Roundup. (Could even answer why he forgets his backstory in the second movie) (I Would honestly love to see the muppet style show they had in the second movie to make it a little more unique in animation style.) Or it could even be a book like how for TinkerBell they have a backstory on Queen Clarion!
Pixar... what happened to you? You used to be the bastion of unique originality and creativity... And now... youre making Toy Story 5 and CARS GODDAMN 4!!! Please, go bankrupt and rid us of your imbecility, forever...
I may be wrong but I heard what's going on that the army of Buzz Lightyear toys is actually a newer line of high-tech smart toys. My guess is it's like those new Robosen Buzz toys, but they'll that the narrative will make them based on in-universe nostalgia for the original toy. The high tech thing does give the storytellers a way to have the tech/tablet stuff take on a form that other characters can physically interact with in the story.
This was written on the wall as soon as the last three "original idea" movies that came out before Inside Out 2 didn't make a billion dollars (which is like, the qualifying factor for movies to be considered "successful" now), not to mention all the sabotaging the Mouse did with streaming and marketing. Now that IO2 was a massive success (which, good for it, there was still plenty of story to tell in that series), we're gonna see a LOT more hastily thrown together sequels. I feel so bad for the animators, it sounds like things are getting horrible there.
I'll be honest, at this point, the only sequels I'll take are reimagining's and new story ideas with Kingdom Hearts behind it LMAO Like I said in.... another comment section (lmao) KH is the sole reason I'm properly around for Disney/Pixar content, and this really reinforces it more lol
I just hope this new buzz army is like a “digital” version of him like a rerelease. Like teddy ruxpin got a remake where instead of cassettes he’d connect to a phone or tablet, or the robosapien got a rerelease where you could control it with Bluetooth instead of the prepackaged controller. It’d honestly make more sense if they went that route instead of “oh yeah buzz has always been this way”
Yeah, a plot about technology in the modern world CAN be done right with enough nuance like The Mitchells VS The Machines, but that concept art feels like a AAA r/im14andthisisdeep post (idk if I wrote that right I'm spanish)
Something tells me that what they said on Twitter was a joke. If it’s not, then I’m confident this buzz Lightyear chaos drama Could create some serious comedy to contrast the incredibly serious story that’s going to be part of this movie
The irony of a franchise that explores the world from a toy's perspective to ask questions about their usage, while simultaneously using those very characters as merchandise long after it canonically ended after the third installment.
i don’t think it’s worse but rather….. disappointing honestly with the expectations they keep putting up more and more on a decent story that kept being milked until they get a bad story that kills the series (example megamind 2 that was basically not made by any of the actual original cast or side of the country )
Honestly, I’m ready for Pixar to throw in the towel soon. They’ve made a good library of approximately 30 films, and have shown time-and-time again that they can always bring something new to the table. For better (whatever comes to your mind) or worse (Cars 2). For richer (Inside Out 2 and Incredibles 2), for poorer (The Good Dinosaur and Lightyear). So, we should love them and cherish for all we can. ‘Till death to us part via those recent box office bombs. As Doktor Skipper once said, “They’ll make something bad, something new and interesting, and then something that goes over the roof in its ticket sales.” And, it’s been doing that in a pattern ever since Cars 2. Yes, it became the 10th highest-grossing film of 2011, but the critics (and some of you psychos) found it to be terrible.
So, I’m not saying that I hate their movies. What I am saying is that there’s so much to check out, and, I’m taking a turn on the company. Not too major.
I fucking hate this. These executives and producers looked over the the first 3 movies and really thought "Of course, the thing people love most about this franchise is some variation of Buzz being delusional".
@ I’m not your pal guy. Also the movie is coming out next year. That’s not a lot of time in animation to just change start changing things. And they were very adamant about bringing up the army of Buzzes at the D23 announcement.
They should’ve gone down the route of the toys trying to find Woody and Bo Peep, with the problem of Bonnie being on her iPad all the time not wanting to go other places.
I was literally watching Toy Story 2 last night and just thought “Christ 5 is just gonna be this cute little bit and the demo stuff from 3 rehashed” I’m fine with more movies in the Toy Story universe, just. We can focus on a new group of toys
I've never watched the Lightyear Movie so I don't know much about it, apart from watching clips of Sox lol. I always thought a cool plot in any future Toy Story movie would be Buzz searching for toy Sox. Like the gang could go out on an epic adventure to find Sox but given time has passed, he's really rare. Maybe they have to travel to that toy museum in Japan (from the second movie) to find Sox and escape Al, and then release all the other toys to an orphanage or something. I'm no writer but would love to see something like that as opposed to the same thing again.
Think there's room for a redemption here or...?
I guess, there’s always room for improvement!
Maybe you never know
Definitely not
i'm so hoping 5 could be a redemption arc for the toys + bonnie arch for sure hopefully having bonnie giving more screentime compared to 4 though along with her gaining more of a good character development would be a lovely improvement.

Buzz in TS5: Below the line of Retardation.
To give TS1 Buzz some credit, he was fresh out the box, and was still smart (the stunt scene in which he ‘flies’).

TOY!
Exactly!
They are literally not doing anything new in the forth one. Even a Buzz that’s not a good guy has already been kinda done.
@@SlipNJimmyfair point tbh, and I get that was like looking at what kids were gonna be like in the future with video games and whatnot. the whole Buzz army idea would be funnier if they were all different colours and gimmicks, almost like a parody of how many Kenner Batman figures were cranked out in the 90’s.
Every kid has a favourite toy, and I just couldn't help but find it uncanny how TS4 basically says "these toys are poor and opressed, longing for freedom and private life, you should just dump them into a sandpit cause apparently that's what they really want."
Bo Peep unironically sounded like a weird mixture of HAL 9000 and Lenin.
From thereon in, Walt Disney would frequently say throughout the years, "You can't top pigs with pigs."
well isn't that interesting disney?
Well I’m certainly not anti-sequel, I’m very much in the anti stop-beating-a-dead-horse-with-another-dead-horse camp. Walt Disney most likely just noticed that sequels very rarely ever reach the peaks and heights of the original, so he resorted to just not relying on them and focusing instead on new ideas. Wish modern Disney would do the same. You don’t have to completely ignore your existing IPs, but relying on them so heavily when the reason people loved you in the first was because you were once the pinnacle of CREATIVITY is… a choice. And a bad one at that.
The idea that the toys become obsolete due to rising technology makes too much sense NOT to do
......but why did we bring back the evil buzz lightyear storyline from Toy Story 2?
Or incorporating that with a new line of Buzz Lightyear toys (perhaps salvaging something from Lightyear in that these new ones are based on that movie while the OG line is based off of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command). The new line has more technologically going on (a QR code for an iPad app with AR features to use the toy with maybe), and it becomes an exploration of technical specs vs soul, with a side of how iPads have impacted imagination.

Just like Toy Story 4 made me guilty for giving away my toys, which goes against the message of Toy Story 3?
Toy Story: Jealousy Issues
Toy Story 2: Abandonment issues
Toy Story 3: Saying Goodbye
Toy Story 4: Finding Yourself
Toy Story 5: phone bad book good
Toy Story 5: Buzz become fucked up and evil
The plot of Toy Story 5 shows that we took toy story 4 for granted because at least Toy Story 4 tried to be something good which is raping us woody’s character arc, it was nice seeing bo peep again, forky was a great character

Toy Story 4 was an embarrassment, Gabby was a poor villain, the morals are skewed, and Buzz acted like he was brain dead.
I can't agree more

It doesn’t matter that Bonnie wasn’t playing with him, cause she only didn’t play with him for 3 days of a week at most, not to mention she played with him during the goddam Forky suicide travel montage.
Not to mention that he went for potential years of not being played with in Andy’s teenage years, and he never abandoned Andy there, because that’s how strong his loyalty is.
So yeah, the ending of 4 is a betrayal of Woody’s defining characteristics, as well as a huge middle finger to the original trilogy and everyone who enjoyed them.

Buy! Buy!"
That's Disney for you.

Actually a really creative idea. I like this.

Now time to left it alone. They're not as same as used to be. Rotten and fouled by greed and nostalgia obsession.
I think most of us do
I think the only way it would make sense for Woody to reunite with the toys is if Buzz and the rest needed help with something related to the main conflict, perhaps a strength that Woody excels in such as planning, leadership, and mostly loyalty.
Lets not forget the character literally called EVIL BUZZ LIGHTYEAR from the cartoon
"Buzz Lightyear, Spreading evil to invinity, And beyond! (Evil Laugh)
I love that quote to be honest and let's hope one of the AI Buzz's said that quote.

And I can imagine Woody being like a person who grew up during Gen Z and very relatable and even saying:
"What the heck does Skibidi even mean?!
Zurg is directing Toy Story 5, lol
considering they havent put any of BLOSC on streaming nor home release it doesnt seem likely that disney will ever acknowledge the show unfortunately
That “concept art” is so funny
They let someone die of a food allergy and they family couldn’t sue because they had a Disney plus account, you shouldn’t care

Not gonna lie Buzz ending up their leader and becoming Buzz Lightyear of Star Command could actually be interesting.

Wasn't "kids are playing with tech instead of toys" the plot of "The Toy Story Before Time"?
It sounds like the retooled the rejected plotline for Disney's Toy Story 3, they one they were planning before they reached an agreement with Pixar many, many years ago.

Honestly buzz being an old toy getting replaced with one of those iPad gimmick toy version (like furby boom) could work
I am just gonna predict that the buzz lightyear with the utility belt is the one who freed the buzz lightyears from the toy barn and somehow made an army of them and he is like the leader cuz he is wearing a belt
i'm so hoping 5 could be a redemption arc for the toys + bonnie arch for sure hopefully having bonnie giving more screentime compared to 4 though along with her gaining more of a good character development would be a lovely improvement.
Forky: "Trash?"
Me: You aren't...but this new movie sure seems like it's going to be trash.
Like fourth movie
Just like the movie he first appeared in
Ok, how the fuck people didn't realize that toys are alive if there's an entire line of action figures that come into the world convinced they're actual space rangers?
The only Pixar sequels I want is Monsters Inc 2 and Incredibles 3.
We are getting Incredibles 3. Monsters Inc 2 was cancelled years ago
I'd like A Bug's Life 2 as well
4:31 I'm sorry, but i will NOT take this Toy Story 2 slander!
Idk, I'm making this up on the spot but I'm just trying to say that you could maybe make it work depending on how they tackle this idea (even if it is just a mash-up of Stinky Pete's and Lotso's villainy), but I don't have much hope that Pixar will actually do this
"We're doing a sequel
There's no need to disguise
The studio considers us a viable franchise"
No need to wait for Toy Story 4 (this time).
I think that the idea of animated iPad like u said the beginning kinda like the Mitchell’s vs machines phone would be fire
Next episode: Somehow... Toy Story 913489 Is Getting Even Worse..
Woody's shocked reaction to when you said "full aisle of Buzz toys" in 5:15 is just PRICELESS!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Also the voice of mr.potato head is already dead back in 2017. So how can they replace mr.potato head in toy story 5?
Mr. A. I. Bott.
Jeff Bergman (who does the voice of Bugs Bunny in some Looney Tunes properties) actually does a pretty great Mr. Potato Head.
@@nicolasbaron4506 I'm not invested with recast voice actor. As long as he tries to imitate his voice but a little bit accurate.
I would’ve been better to have Tim Allen’s idea for Toy Story 5 , when he said about grown up Andy trying to get his old toys back
Toy Story 5 Finding Toys
But then he realized Bonnie lost woody and beat her up
Why can't we have a fun timeless adventure rather than some weirdo modern commentary we all already agree with? iPad Babies Bad isn't a message we need to be told. What a waste of time and money if they're actually going to make a whole movie about it...
I would love to see a movie focused on Woody’s backstory.
Either how he came into Andy’s possession (plus Andy’s dad), AND/OR his backstory on the show Woody’s Roundup.
(Could even answer why he forgets his backstory in the second movie)
(I Would honestly love to see the muppet style show they had in the second movie to make it a little more unique in animation style.)
Or it could even be a book like how for TinkerBell they have a backstory on Queen Clarion!
Pixar... what happened to you?
You used to be the bastion of unique originality and creativity...
And now... youre making Toy Story 5 and CARS GODDAMN 4!!!
Please, go bankrupt and rid us of your imbecility, forever...
I don’t think they have a choice. Disney is probably running the strings so Pixar can’t do much
They released six original films between Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, and they will release two more originals (Elio and Hoppers) before Toy Story 5.
Cars 4? Is that actually going to happen lol
Edit: I JUST CHECKED AND IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING

WHAT-
WHATS EVEN THE STORY THEN-
I'm a Cars fan, and even I never wanted Cars 4
because I don't like 3 anyways
I may be wrong but I heard what's going on that the army of Buzz Lightyear toys is actually a newer line of high-tech smart toys. My guess is it's like those new Robosen Buzz toys, but they'll that the narrative will make them based on in-universe nostalgia for the original toy. The high tech thing does give the storytellers a way to have the tech/tablet stuff take on a form that other characters can physically interact with in the story.
...and people still think Cars 2 is a bad movie?
I always liked that movie
This was written on the wall as soon as the last three "original idea" movies that came out before Inside Out 2 didn't make a billion dollars (which is like, the qualifying factor for movies to be considered "successful" now), not to mention all the sabotaging the Mouse did with streaming and marketing. Now that IO2 was a massive success (which, good for it, there was still plenty of story to tell in that series), we're gonna see a LOT more hastily thrown together sequels. I feel so bad for the animators, it sounds like things are getting horrible there.
I'll be honest, at this point, the only sequels I'll take are reimagining's and new story ideas with Kingdom Hearts behind it LMAO
Like I said in.... another comment section (lmao) KH is the sole reason I'm properly around for Disney/Pixar content, and this really reinforces it more lol
It’d honestly make more sense if they went that route instead of “oh yeah buzz has always been this way”
Kind of like the Robosen Buzz Lightyear made earlier this year? That would actually be kind of interesting to see.
I might be alone in this, but I immediately lost hope for this movie when I found out it was about Bonnie getting an Ipad.
Yeah, a plot about technology in the modern world CAN be done right with enough nuance like The Mitchells VS The Machines, but that concept art feels like a AAA r/im14andthisisdeep post (idk if I wrote that right I'm spanish)
Bro is casually using the Donk Donk song from rhythm heaven fever around 4:15 is awesome, took me a second to realize it
Something tells me that what they said on Twitter was a joke.
The fact they never made a series with Woody and Bo as lost toys while Buzz and Jessie lead the next Toy Story film will never cease to disappoint me.
Disney looked at the mountain of unsold Star Wars and Marvel toys and thought “what if they came alive and rebelled?”
i don’t think it’s worse but rather….. disappointing honestly with the expectations they keep putting up more and more on a decent story that kept being milked until they get a bad story that kills the series (example megamind 2 that was basically not made by any of the actual original cast or side of the country )
Pal these are just concept arts, it doesn’t mean they’re always gonna be in the final product, things can change in production for better or worse.
@ I’m not your pal guy.
Also the movie is coming out next year. That’s not a lot of time in animation to just change start changing things. And they were very adamant about bringing up the army of Buzzes at the D23 announcement.
